Star Wars Discussion / Re: Novelizations.
« on: February 27, 2018, 08:51:33 PM »
It is canon because disney has said everything they release now that is book, show, or movie is canon. No argument. He probably just meant the next movie wont acknowledge it outright.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Is the First Order the real threat?
« on: November 14, 2017, 12:29:20 AM »
My theory on what is going to end up happening in episode 9 based on some of the books and hints. In thrawn's book we learn that he is trying to essentially prepare the galaxy for some outside threat the chiss ascendancy is fighting. This is pre-yavin. Palpatine knows about the threat to and also has apparently been searching for the source of the force itself. I think Snoke is the leader or a vanguard for whatever the outside threat is (I would love vong but they can't put a race of bloodthirsty self-mutilating religious fanatics in a movie) and also potentially the physical manifestation of the dark side of the force just as the Bendu is for the gray side. I assume between Yavin and Force Awakens the chiss ascendancy falls leaving the galaxy open for Snoke to come into play. We know the First Order apparently got their start as a special imperial force the empire made to explore other galaxies and conquer them if the main galaxy fell. I think the First Order engaged Snoke and ended up falling under his influence.  As some have said I suspect Thrawn is somewhere out there leading a imperial remnant seeking to topple Snoke and reunite what is left of the Empire. Thrawn doesn't give a crap who rules after the threat to the chiss is dealt with. He will likely side with the resistance and any in the First Order who have come to oppose Snoke's bloodthirst.

They started out flirting but now mostly have a brother/sister relationship. The joke with the dad was most likely fan service for shippers

I like what I saw, though I am seriously concerned about them having the likes of Finn and Phasma as DLC (I know it's free DLC but still). Makes me wonder who else they'll leave out at launch.
Currently the people we have confirmed/ seen in trailer but not confirmed are Rey, Maul, Boba, Luke, Han, Yoda, Kylo. I'm sure Vader and Leia are still in. Going to assume we get young Obi-Wan as well

The reason I wouldn't agree with this is the fact theoretically the Republic could be getting demolished and having a CIS remnant faction when they are dominant seems strange

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Ground Fighters

Already settled but I would imagine this would be a balancing issue as well because it would be far too easy to spam squadrons and just wipe everything

The fight was perfect I thought. At this point Maul was sort of looking to die after losing everything he'd ever had. When he realized that Kenobi had held onto a purpose after everything that happened Maul realized the state of his life. I don't believe Maul ever intended to walk away from that fight and if he did I don't think he would have known what to do next. The name twin suns has a lot of symbolism. In a way Maul and Kenobi were brothers as well as enemies. They'd both lost everything because of the sith. Notice when Maul said "he will avenge US". Maul at that point let his personal hatred of Kenobi go. He was hoping Kenobi would succeed with Luke. I thought the symbolism of the episode and the intricacies of their final discussion was amazing. We didn't need a big fight. Kenobi at that point was so in tune with the force just a few years later he could become a force ghost. He was much more powerful than Maul ever was. He gave maul a quick death and answered his final question out of respect for what he knew Maul had gone through in his life. I truly though it was an amazing end for Maul. His final words showed simultaneously that he had made peace in a way with Kenobi but had not been fully redeemed because of his wish to be avenged. I know this episode wasn't as exciting as it was hyped up to be but as art and a piece of star wars lore it was amazing

Star Wars Discussion / Re: what would your flagship be and why?
« on: March 15, 2017, 12:26:48 AM »
If it had to be the time frame of the mod I'd say the eclipse because the thing is godlike if you take out plot armor for the enemy. Hit and run attacks with it where you drop out of hyperspace and fire the laser at an SSD or planet then launch droid fighters and jump out to spawn chaos is too OP. If i could choose any then it would be the ship Gar Stazi gets in the legacy comic series. The alliance I believe it was called. It was a prototype star destroyer a century ahead of the mod. It would take like one turbolaser to wipe any standard ship

9
The Vong would have gotten destroyed not just because the imperial military would be insanely OP but also because one of the main reasons the NR had trouble in the first place was political infighting. The Emperor would have committed everything and beaten the Vong in under 6 sixth months pretty easy and wiped the vong from existence.

I always retreat when a big fleet comes in when I know I can't handle them, especially Zsinj, then I gather the near by fleets and attack them again before they do a ground invasion. I have the advantage because I can jump in any ship anywhere and control the pace of the battle. For Zsinj Arc-170s and Skiprays will wipe out his shields, then warp in anything else to handle his hardpoints along with the bombers, its an easy kill doing it like that.

Three times in a row I got the you can't retreat for four minutes event. So that led to my fleet all dying by Zsinj. I just worked on killing his other heroes while his SSD wiped me. Killed like 3 of his space heroes one battle but after that I had to restart because the NR took my southern planets right after.

Got rekt as Maldrood because the NR sent all their heroes to my south and wiped my fleets there and Zsinj came with all his fleets to my north. Was good but had to restart once the SSD wiped my last good fleet and their ground troops started taking planets.

Probably my first GC once it's fully developed will be a gc where each  faction starts with a strong outlying base with paths leading into a central war zone around the core. Will be mayhem  with as many factions as possible

« on: January 25, 2017, 02:32:30 AM »
TBH I don't think the Hapans are fleshed out enough to be their own faction They never fielded anything stronger than a captured star destroyer and I don't know what their ground would be like. I'd love to see them in more of the GC's as a strong non playable faction butin terms of extra factions if anything I'd like to see the Chiss or even a Vong GC

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Your Best/Most Memorable Battles
« on: January 13, 2017, 06:10:55 PM »
One time the AI was about to wipe out my shipyard and win the battle with an overwhelming fleet but they all turned around and ended up fighting close range with a raid fleet and allowing my hypervelocity guns to kill them all off. Another time was when the the AI sacrificed about 5 SSDs against me in one battle to kill just 1 of mine

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Post-Endor books?
« on: January 13, 2017, 12:41:55 AM »
The funny thing is as a kid my intro to the Legends canon was reading the force heretic trilogy of the NJO series. Despite not knowing anything outside of the movies and even starting the Vong war story near its end I enjoyed it immensely. I guess anything star wars is fun to me and because of this I enjoy the Vong more than many other star wars fans. I liked that they were so different. So if you have a rough idea of the post endor story and like something different read the NJO series.

I personally haven't played F4 but i have about 600 hour in NV and i can say confidently that NV is the best that i have played so far. Many of the issues in NV is that it wasn't given enough time to finish. I love the fallout series but what I'm worried about is if Black Isle studios will be able to make F5 because of the NV. I don't think the two are comparable in a traditional sense, because there is so much different between the two. If i had to choose I would choose NV.

Black Isle does not exist anymore lol. Bethesda bought fallout years ago when they went under and now its made by Bethesda or connected companies like Obsidian in the case of New Vegas

I remember reading and enjoying the novel shatterpoint which was a Mace Windu clone wars story basically about him going to a CSI world that basically was an apartheid society. Was pretty dark and interesting and commented a bit about the gritty aspects of the clone wars. I agree the CSI used to be pretty terrifying until they decided the expanded universe stuff had to appeal more to kids

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Lucrehulk or Invincible for 2.2?

oh, and will the Duskhan League get more units and heroes? cause i'm pretty sure their really small right now
Considering how unimportant they are I doubt the mod creators will put too much effort into it but who knows

Well, I would go at it in a very very different approach.
I would start by imperial fleets disappearing left and right black fleet style with no sources of indication where they went. Imperial planets abandoned, no sign of opposition in chokepoints. Nothing, nowhere, but star destroyer wrecks at a few places, heavily damages on outposts.
The investigation's conclusion: infighting between imperial groups. It culminates in finding an Executor class in pieces. The NR salvages the wreck and starts to rebuild it. They secure the galaxy in 5 years(the decreased time can e ruled out as the missing opposition in this case, yet still not as ridiculous as 1 year.)
Then it happens. The New Republic high command loses contact with a patrol. They send a fleet but they just go dark. The NR declares the sector off limits in precaution.
Then comes the disappearence of some mole miners. Then the canonized version of the battle for Sluis Van. And since thrawn is canon, he could pull the strings. He reunited most of the empire and pulled back to the unknown regions, regrouping an salvaging whatever he could, calling out for all who is loyal to the empire. The attack on Sluis Van is a success this time, and he captures a whole new republic fleet. The fleet of MC 80s are got a good use immediately. Posing as a New republic fleet under attack by imperial forces engages in a fake battle against an ISD and an Interdictor. When reinforcements arrive, the imperials does not retreat. The NR support fleet comes in range, and then... A whole imperial fleet pops up right on them, using a precision hyperspace jump with the gravity well of the interdictor.
The new republic fleet gets obliterated before they could report back. System after system falls with no info for years. And this is where we start episode 7. The NR is in fear and the Resistance could be those brave few whom would try to go after whatever kills their fleets. and by the end, trough sheer luck plot bunnies as ever they get to know that it is the empire, that thrawn leads the empire and there wouldn't be any superweapon. just super tactics. Oh, and Han would die, but in a much more dignified way. In the final battle of the movie where the heroes would try to run away with the info, they would be outgunned and couldn't jump because of an interdictor, and to save them, Han would ram his ship into it so the others could get away. So Han's death would at least mean something and not just die because why not. This would be a death fitting for him, and even his development in the original triology would mean something, culminating in this event.
What do you guys think?

While interesting isn't it unrealistic with the technology of Star Wars and probability to say that Thrawn could fight a shadow war for years with noone figuring out its the Empire?
