Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: The Vong
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:18:31 AM »
If you really want them that bad, SoGE has the Vong. I don't like the Vong in general though, they're honestly a pretty stupid arc that was really unnecessary and ruined a lot of the universe.

That said, I think the Hand makes up for the Vong immensely.

Hello, I would be interested:

1

If the units remain at their current prices?

The Super Star Destroyer I find already properly with its 40000 (could be from me also 80000), but some units seem to me too cheap, enable the AI mass attacks.

Maybe I'm also rather Awakening of the Rebellion and Strategic Improvment usual.

What I find lace to your mod is that the heroes are mortal ^ ^

2

Is it really possible for the fraction view (there where you prosperity, planets and Military makes a statistic looks) there the penta star Coalition insert or is it hardcoded? I find it unfortunate fact that there are only three factions (Imperial Remnant, New Republic, hand empire are visible).

3 I find your mod very great, especially the space battle fields of the backgrounds here ^ ^ Keep it up!

Ascendancy Discussion / Re: Life in the Galaxy
« on: July 06, 2014, 08:56:50 PM »
This post was kind of confusing but I'll try to make sense of it.

First off, it is not difficult to raid multiple planets. Just try to make sure the planets a you're raising are far enough away from each other so your raiding fleets don't both quickly get smashed in orbit. If you're losing, it sounds like you it's aren't building enough ships. Destroying the planet ASAP is always a good idea. For any raiding, siege frigates with escorts are important. Take the planet, so they have to pump money back into planetary development, and try to destroy whatever orbital infrastructure you can. SoaSE is more than just "kill the enemy", although it definitely can be that way. Culture is an option if you're into that. I like starting a war of attrition, as my strategy is expand as fast as possible and get the most resources. Then you can just attack and attack and attack until they run out. I can't speak for Corey as to what the mod is going towards, but it seems your issues are stemming from just not being smart about your playing.

We would, but we already hit our Consortium quota.

I really hope that was a joke... I'd be fine with them being assimilated into a pirate faction but them as a standalone... nah.

Droid Empire?

Vong?

CIS Remnant?

Mandalorians?

I NEED TO KNOWWWW

Im not sure if this is coded or not but just a thought I had, for the ICW type maps couldnt you have a victory condition or something that disables the non-time period units?

Sins is played in real time, EaW is... well not. Not really sure what to call it.

Since Sins is played in real time and has no set sections or conditions in which you can get new tech (besides time and money of course) you can't "lock out" certain techs for factions. If you played a multiplayer game I guess you could make a pact to only build X era ships, but that's about it. You can, however, lock out certain trees if you pick another. Say there is a tree that branches into two directions, if you take tech X instead of tech Y you can no longer research tech Y. That doesn't seem particularly useful, though, or at least from what I have seen in this mod. I've messed with strings and tech a bit so I'm not stranger to that. Not sure how else you could do what you're aiming for, however.

Read through that thread, I had the same issue on my last PC and to a lesser extent on this one. Just edit the graphics XML manually.

The Lounge / Re: Thinking about impulse buying SOASE:R. Few questions
« on: July 03, 2014, 05:50:55 AM »
If you're able to run EaW/ICW, you shouldn't have any real problems running Sins/Ascendancy. You'd just have to do it on low detail, since that's an integrated graphics card which aren't especially great.

As far as where you're buying it, you shouldn't need to buy it from anywhere that needs to ship anything. As far as I'm aware, the game is only available via digital download. It may be $40 on Steam now, but it goes on sale pretty often. At least once a month it seems like, for prices between 7.99 and 20.00. The Steam summer sale was actually the second time it was on sale in June.

I run integrated graphics, I can run everything on Very High. I can max settings on EaW too if I go through the bullshit with certain cards not being allowed to turn certain things up past a certain point, which I think I already did. Sin's only real issue is the fact that it's single core and late game lag gets bad no matter what your machine specs are.

Corey is right though, DO NOT BUY IT AT FULL PRICE. It went on sale once at the end of may and then multiple times in June. I grabbed the game and all DLC for like $10 total a while ago. Buy it digital, also.

If you want to be kept up to date on sales just google "Sins of a solar empire sales" every so often and you should get something. Otherwise, check /r/gamedeals on reddit every so often.

You should be able to run the mod fine if Ascendancy is going to be anything similar in relation to optimization to Sins of a Galactic Empire or Sins of the Prophets. Even so, Sins isn't a hard game to run at all.

Awesomely made. Seems they have actual canon Star Wars (no plot bunnies) down right. Also, they realize KOTOR series had superior music to the rest of the series...

On newest versions of both.

Looking to get either a campaign or skirmish game going on either (I believe that campaign doesn't work on RaW however)

Give me a time/date and I'll make it work.

I'm also on retail

Ascendancy Discussion / Re: Unit Ability Discussion
« on: January 16, 2014, 09:43:35 PM »
But that's why Interdictors were always so expensive, and compared to other units their side, so weak.  Yes, their special ability is overpowered, but they're also insanely expensive and mostly a "1 trick pony" that's easily defeated.

NOT having them be able to prevent it entirely makes it, IMO, kinda useless to have interdictors since that's the whole point of them.

No, I was speaking as a passive ability that actually slows the speed at which they move through the star lane from system to system. As in, any ships incoming to the gravity well get a dramatic speed reduction and ships leaving can't get into phase space.

Another one, maybe Interdictors can slow the speed at which phase jumps are made since stopping it completely would be OP.

The Mk. II is both weird looking and unecessary. I really don't know why it exists, or what connection it actually has with the Dreadnaught and Assault Frigate.

It exists because Petroglyph didn't want to use the Dreadnaught-style looking one.

Agreed with miller though, shielding on the 1 has nothing on the 2

Star Destroyers could get Intimidation: any ships of lesser class take a (?)% penalty to all stats while within X radius of the ship.

I'm sure ISDs ruined a lot of people's days in their lifespan.

The Lounge / Re: Most likely cause of America's demise
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:14:46 PM »
Crisiss I figured the 3 way war was unlikely but put it for two reasons.  1).  It is all but assured that we would win the War but even victories can wind up being too costly.  Take Britain in World War 2 for example.  To win they had to purchase ships and supplies from America but had to give up pretty much all of their Naval Bases, including Iceland, allowed them to rule the oceans and the world for so long.  Also they wound up being hugely in debt and not able to sustain their Empire in Asia and Africa leading to the loss of that. Something like this could happen to America fighting 1 billion Chinese and a crap load of Rusky tanks.  We would be tied up in Europe trying to save our allies there and need an Ally in the Pacific so get India to help out.  To get them to join us we allow them to take Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philipines(?) giving them an Empire to build upon.  After the war we are exhausted finically and wind up giving up our military bases in foreign countries and gradually turning into a second tier power.  2). I could not figure out how to get rid of options so I put random ones in.

You said this was a 3 way war though. Russia vs China vs America. None of Europe other than western Russia. And no, we would really only have to pay operating costs for our navy and aircraft to keep them at bay. So unless they plan on swimming across the Pacific or the Bering Strait (or going over the North Pole for whatever reason) we would be well prepared. But if we did launch a land offensive, we would get screwed financially. I don't think Europe would want to join anyways as nobody wants to piss off Russia. We all know what happens when you piss off Russia. China would have a hard time supplying and moving 1 billion troops and billions of tons of equipment across the Himalayas and Middle East, not including food, fuel, and ammunition. In a sense, nobody would win because of the economics. America has the standard victory by destroying the opposition down though.

The Lounge / Re: Most likely cause of America's demise
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:56:58 PM »
The 3 way war option is very unlikely. The only one of those two who might *possibly* stand a chance against America in a conventional war is Russia. If they teamed up on us, still very unlikely. A lot of people forget that while China's military is huge, they have a fairly small navy. Russia has the second or third strongest navy in the world at this point, and even that is aging. The only thing they have going for them is their combined air forces. Not to mention, there is a fucking ocean between us and Asia. There is Europe between us and Russia (or again, the Pacific seeing as Russia has a port to both oceans) which stops them from mobilizing too much. Even if they did get here, they would have to deal with our reserves, the actual military, and then the millions of armed civilians and our very militarized police. I mean, our basic police forces have fucking APCs. There is no way we would lose a conventional war.

We are going to fail economically sooner or later. The White House should have taken the Death Star gamble while they ahead. That'd create quite a few jobs.

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Re: Multiplayer freezing at start menu
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:45:58 PM »
Are you on Windows 8? I'm not sure what the issue is either. LAN tunneling might be a good idea actually. FoC and ICW start fine, however. Just the menu freezing up which leaves MP unplayable. Might have to download RaW again and see if that works.

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Multiplayer freezing at start menu
« on: January 12, 2014, 01:01:31 AM »
Recent upgraded to Windows 8 on a newer computer, I can't navigate past the first menu when opening multiplayer in Thrawn's Revenge. I can play multiplayer just fine in vanilla but when it comes to this it freezes instantly and is a bitch to fix without a hard shutdown. Any fixes or help appreciated.

On an unrelated note, anyone know how to fix the Shader and Water quality on Intel hardware?
