Well, there's not a whole lot else you can put in a minute-long trailer besides explosions and cool stuff happening. If you watch the trailers for the OT, they are almost entirely action-focused.

I thought it looked pretty sweet, I'm glad to see the Empire is still alive and kicking!

It's pretty good I suppose. Honestly, the only titles in the whole series that ever stood out to me were "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

True, actually seeing the Emperor himself in lightsaber action was pretty awesome; Ian McDiarmid pretty much stole the show in ROTS. There were times when it seemed like he was the only one even trying...

I actually don't like the prequel fights so much, to me they're just too ridiculous. Especially if Yoda is involved, I mean how could anyone take that seriously?

That said, I loved the duel with Darth Maul in Episode I. The whole thing is beautifully choreographed, and the the music just makes it perfect. It was probably the best scene in any of the prequels, I'd rank it the number two duel in the whole saga.

Way better than the previous version, it looks more like a supercrowded over-used planet now. The haze is really nice.

Fascinatin' stuff. I like the added depth there, looks like we'll have to work a bit to make the less hospitable planets productive.

Aww yeah, theropods with lasers! Those screenshots are fantastic. The ships look amazing. Everything is amazing!

You guys kinda gave it away with the Syndic reskin description on Moddb, wonder if anyone else caught that.

Ascendancy Discussion / On Planets
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:58:40 PM »
I had been thinking of how to represent the political divisions and diversity of the Star Wars galaxy in a game like Sins, and maybe add a layer of depth to managing and acquiring territory. Would it be possible to have a max allegiance for certain planets depending on who is controlling them? For example, Bothawui could have an "allegiance cap" of only 20% when controlled by any faction other than the NR. Imperial cultural homeworlds such as Anaxes could have a similar maximum level of loyalty when captured by any other faction. Now, I would only add this cap to a few specific planets that are well-known in SW lore to be the hearts of their respective factions. Fleet presence could also slow the loss of loyalty due to enemy cultural influence, in order to represent the fear of force against civilians.

Also, this planet type could grant an allegiance buff to all of your planets when you capture one, as a representation of the surge in prestige any faction would gain when it captures a crucial territory of it's enemy. Losing one of your own "homeworlds"  (either by capture or permanent loss via the Galaxy Gun) would likewise give a system-wide allegiance debuff. Imagine the panic and chaos that would set in across the New Republic if Mon Calamari were to be conquered by a resurgent Imperial fleet. That's the sort of thing I'm trying to implement in an effort to give the in-game galaxy some of the character of the Star Wars universe. Instead of just advancing from planet A to planet B, players may start to think about going after specific sectors to cripple their enemy, and how they can hold them. In other words, strategy! One thing that was consistently annoying to me about 4x games like Sins was how the game was always just a big crawl forwards, as all players just oozed across the map until they ran into each other. Exploration was never interesting again after your first game, because every where you go in the supposedly vast and diverse galaxy is the same.

I had first thought of this system when toying with the idea of a universal allegiance debuff on the loss of a supercapital ship; and I think it could work even better with planets. Similar rules could apply to Coruscant, although instead of favoring any specific faction the capture of Coruscant could give a huge array of cultural and economic boosts to whoever occupies it, with, of course; serious repercussions if you should lose it. This would make the galactic capital the focal point of any map it is featured in.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: The Vong
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:53:57 PM »
I am firmly in the loathe camp. Not because of poor writing or bad characterization, or any other story quality issues; but because of the invasion's effect on the big picture. The Vong war makes the events of the original trilogy completely pointless. Who cares whether the Empire or Rebellion wins, because the Vong are gonna show up in a couple of years and screw everything. They would almost certainly devastate half the galaxy even if they eventually lost to the Empire or NR, so the epic Galactic Civil War becomes instead an exercise in futility.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Fall of the Empire GC
« on: July 06, 2014, 03:43:07 PM »
Most of what I would suggest has been mentioned already, but I would like to see the Empire get back some Pentastar stuff in order to represent the complete Galactic Empire at it's height. They could get the Storm Commando Escort carrier with it's Tie Hunters, the Gladiator, and maybe some other tie variants like the Tie Advanced. I would love to see the Dauntless make an appearance, the Alliance wouldn't be so short on capital ships and its one of the best looking Rebel ships in my opinion. Maybe the Home One Class could be buildable as well to fill some gaps.

For the Rebels you guys are already possibly adding the Dauntless to Ascendancy, so that would be a logical choice. So e old CIS units could work too (the Providence comes to mind). What I think would be cool would be to give them a Corruption-like ability (though of course more limited in scope) that would represent the start of Rebel cells on Imperial planets.

I like the sound of that! Could give the Rebs the edge they need against the Empire, since they are pretty much outgunned at this point. I also agree that Thrawn should be in, he was still active in galactic affairs for a while after Yavin.

Soccer is one of those sports I'll only watch when national pride is on the line. As far as I'm concerned, football season can't come soon enough.
I'm guessing Germany will probably win.

More importantly to me, who does everyone think will take the F1 drivers championship this year?  You think Nico can hang on and win, will Lewis right his recent bad luck and storm back to take it?  Or does someone think Riciardo or Alonso can manage to make a huge jump in performance to score enough to take it at this point?

Wait, is F1 the same thing as Indycar series, or is it something else? The cars look pretty darn similar... I'm only familiar with a few drivers, the last race I saw was the Indy 500, which was a hoot.

I second the space dinosaurs. However, I'm also wrong, so it'll probably be the Hutts.

I would say the good ol' reliable Executor. No fancy superlasers, just enough raw firepower to wipe out an entire navy. The Sovereign is a close second, it's very... I suppose ominous is the best word. The Eclipse only looks good from the side, from any other angle it just looks a bit off.

Canonically, I'd never use it at full strength.  Hit major starbases with it, major cities on enemy worlds just to show them that I'm not to be trifled with, but unless an opponent is truly stupid, won't go destroying entire worlds.

Aw come on, not even Naboo?

I'd at least blow up Nal Hutta, because screw the Hutts.

That looks fantastic, its almost like a whole new game! The font makes a huge difference, much more Star Wars-y. What is the orange ring near Byss, a black hole?

Practical effects! Now that's actually a bit encouraging.
