Title: ALO modding help
Post by: Robby Mac on August 22, 2017, 11:52:02 AM
Hey all--

I'm pretty experienced at modding XML, DAT, TED, MTD files, etc. But now I'm trying to mod ALO files.
I've gone to the petrolution.net website, and tried to follow the directions. I've downloaded 3ds Max 2018, (as well as the 2015 version, just in case). I've also downloaded the ALO importer and exporter. I think I've followed the directions properly, by installing files from 3ds Max 2013 into the scripts and plugins folders. But when I try to open 3ds Max, I get an error message...

DLL C:\programfiles\autodesk\3ds max design 2018\plugins\alamo2max.dll> failed to initialize. Error Code 193 - is not a valid Win32 application

Has anyone else experience this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Rob

As stated on Petrolution, the ALO Exporter released by Petroglyph only works with 3ds Max versions 6, 8 and 9.  2013, 2015 and 2018 are all too new.

Thanks for your reply.

Are their any workarounds...like another way to convert the .alo file? I've downloaded 3DObjectConverter 6.5, and I've tried to convert the file to a .3ds file. However, it says invalid file when I try to import it into 3ds Max.

Or is my only option to somehow find an older version of 3ds Max?

Thanks again!
Rob

Where can one get one of the versions of 3Ds Max for the modeling?
