In the Parliamentary election, he lost his majority. Zanu-PF (Mugabe) has 97 seats, the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) has 99. A breakaway group from the MDC hold another three seats, and there is one independent.
Zanu-PF is requesting a recount in 22 constituencies, while the MDC want a recount in just one constituency.
The results from the Presidential election have still not been released, two weeks on from poll day. The MDC claims to have won just over 50% of the votes (based on results posted outside polling stations), which would mean they've won outright. However, independent analysts say that the MDC didnt manage to achieve the 50%, and thus there will be need for a run-off vote.
The MDC appealed to the High Court for the Electoral Commission to release the Presidential results immediately, the judge has since ruled against that, saying that the results can't be published until reported anomalies have been investigated.
The MDC are also claiming that their election agents are being beaten up/killed, and that Mugabe/Zanu-PF have mobilised activists to intimidate voters ahead of a potential run-off.
