in my opinion, the eclipse was like the deathstar. just one big target that needs to be eliminated. i never use it when playing online.
-
you never CAN use it when playing online unless playing a mod or custom map, of which i have never seen.
-
well the eclipse was pretty awesome and i used the death star all the time when playing online in lack GC. but the eclipse II was even better, so i think it would be cool if it was in the mod as well.
i like superweapons
-
i think several superweapons should never be used, though due to engine limitations, such as the world devestator and sun crusher.
-
you can use it if its a mod.
-
the WD is in one VERY VERY BAD mod. the WD is the ep[itome of the inbalanced all-ships-hanving-superlasers unbalance.
also, the sun crusher? should not be in a mod. it would destroy ships, planets and likewise easily and nothing would destroy it.
-
im confused, does WD stand for World Devastator, and what mod are you talking about. and the sun crusher would be awesome, and canon!
-
the sun crusher would be too unballenced to put in a mod since it is indestructable.
-
yeah that is true. it would make it too unbalanced. and if you made it destroyable, that wouldnt be canon.... i like the sun crusher though
-
I think the mod he was referring to was A Galaxy Divided, because it is rather unbalanced and possesses the World Devestator.
I agree with vadereclipse; no more than one or two super weapons should ever be used.
-
ah yes that mod pretty much sucked. not only did every ship have a superlaser, but the super lasers were absolute crap.
well not many factions had more than 2 superweapons at a time, so that would be fine i guess.
-
sonic0 is notorious for being a worse rigger (converter) than nomada. that's saying something.
galaxy gun- i actually think with a bit of work, that could be accomplished. the ZC's plasma cannon projectile could be used as the galaxy gun's projectiles.
-
that actually is kind of a good idea. but i wonder what arbiter thinks?
-
i imagine they would add their own particle, with Dr. Nick's effect enhancement.
sun crusher- IMO, big no-no. indestructible, overpowered, something that sounds like it came from sonic0.
WD- sonic0 is enough proof that it doesn't work. in space, it is slightly better, but still, irt is Overpowered.
galaxy gun- one of the few superweapons that I think would work.
-
yea it could destroy a planets space station or something cool like that!
-
i think the WD would work, it could just move around slowly, and anything that gets in a certain radius gets destroyed. while it pumps out tie droids. there was a mod out there that did a good job on the WD, i cant remember which one though
-
i would think the WD is more for resources than destroying a planet though
-
I remember when you had to destroy World Devestators in Rogue Squadron on N64......that was the best game for it's time......
The World Devestator might work, but I prefer the Galaxy Gun idea.
-
Judging AGD, the WD won't work. at least not on land.
-
the galaxy gun would be more usefull too in my opinion
-
As do I. The WD might be a bit too big for land....I only meant it for space.
-
if you had a world devastator and wanted to make it canon, it could involve editing the game engine wich i don't think eaw allows
-
You can do it all you want im sure, knowing how/doing it is the hard part
-
ah okay then
-
engine editing is more to do with programming than modding, to be honest.
-
yea i thought so. most computers don't even have the capability to edit the engine correct?
-
no. engines are generally supported by any computer as long as the game is OS-compatible. to make a OS-incomatible game compatible with n OS, it requires all sorts of emulation and things. you theoretically can mod an engine, but it is such a big job. is engine info in config files?
for EAW, it would also require deciphering of the LUA, much of which is hardcoded (cannot be edited) and so complicated few in the community can read it. of what i've seen, Sidious invader is the best coder this community has, but he also has problems with a lot of the LUA. to quote kalo, LUA is a "wallotext" and most of it in undecipherable.
-
1. LUA is NOT the engine coding, the Alamo engine is done in C/C++ IIRC.
2. Modding can include programming, it does for many games... Coding = Programming. However, EaW and FoC let us edit the XML and LUA files, which is just scripting.
3. Config.meg just has the XMl and some LUA stuff in it (as well as some stuff that few mods edit, more on that never), its what you extract to get those files...
4. The reason people don't mod EaW's engine coding is not JUST because most don't know how to go about it, its also because if they released a mod with the engine coding, they'd get sued.
-
i was saying with engine edits, changes need to be made in LUAs to make it work properly.
-
There aren't ever any engine edits made, and if you DID make them somehow, you would not need to edit the LUA files to make them take effect.
(Also, the best programmer in the community is almost undoubtedly Mike.NL. He made the majority of the tools that most mods use on a daily basis.)
In any case, topic.
-
I am still adamant about the Galaxy Gun having more chances than the World Devestator.
-
i guess if the mod team gets a chance, build the galaxy gun.
-
You all realise this topic is in the FoC discussion forum? If you want to discuss superweapons in the mod, move it to the proper forum....
-
For the Galaxy Gun, I made projectiles that required the orbiting gun and can destroy planets. The Gun just has lasers.
