I voted QuiGonn-Jinn because he was played by one of my favourite actors in the first movie, and he was just sleek and wise. And plus, he apparently foresaw the Clone Wars, if I am not mistaken.

I gotta go with Luke.  His lightsaber skills appear to be at least the equal of Palpatine's in NJO and LOTF.  And then there is the phantom fleet he conjoured in Jacen/Caedus mind(in Revelation if I am not mistaken).

They arent trying to prove their character is the best, they are giving reasons for why that character is their favourite.

anakin  isnt a jedi either... hes darth vader, and when luke is dead, u can argue he isnt a jedi, the point is that at one point in his life, jolee bindo was a jedi.
Title: Re: favortie jedi character

i think jolee bindo, despite the fact that he stopped benig a jedi was one of the wisest. he didnt have the closed minded, dogmatic veiw that most jedi had. he realized that love did not have to be forbidden and that the jedi are not superior to anyone else. even yoda could have learned from the "rantings" of bindo

Bindo was a very wise force user, but we never saw him as a jedi... but then again this is about favorites and he left the order for his thoughts.

Yes but this is not about discussing why they are the best in your view, even if it consequents from that one being their favourite. I have a special word in mind that I really think I shouldn't be stealing from Enceladus, but I think he will understand; TOPIC. As I said, this topic is not about discussing why they are the best, but just merely stating your favourite. Actually, in the last post of yours, it seems that your statement contradicts that, but whatever.

If people actually want to know the real reason why I chose Qui-Gonn, it's because he was deeply wise and refused to be accepted on to the Jedi Council even after numerous requests which hints at a more quiet and unwilling-to-be-noticed persona.

There is nothing that specifically prevents people from discussing why they consider certain Jedi to be better than others, as that can still have an impact upon their choice of a favourite.  As such, this thread is on topic.  If the thread starter just wanted people to vote for a favourite, he would have set it to no replies.

Does it matter if someone left the order, as long as they were a member of the order at some point in their life?  If someone cant be considered as a Jedi if they leave the order, that would also exlude Anakin, Revan, and many others.

Title: Re: favorite jedi character

But people seem to think that because you must pick your favourite it must degenrate into arguments. I dont care if they say why they think it's their favourite, but it seems rather odd to argue about how your favourite is the best; it shows that people really can't accept the views of others when they are flatly opposing people who peacefully state their reasons for choosing a person, which results in the malignantly arrogant opposer believing that they have to dispute that person's claim by pointing out their favourite's bad points and re-enforcing the good points of their character, which is also biased arguing. So basically, you can say you think yours is the best, but saying they are when a person says they think theirs is the best just for the sake of making your character look good and hence yourself really degrades people in my eyes. Which is what is happening. Needless arguing in a poll is not justified by the thread, hence when I say TOPIC it should naturally apply. Malevolent intruders indeed; feeding off the poor people who merely tried to claim they liked a person like parasitic leeches; it disgusts me.
Title: Re: favorite jedi character
Post by: Slornie on April 18, 2008, 10:12:09 AM
As long as it is civil and constructive, there is no reason why people cant debate the strengths and weaknesses of different Jedi.  I dont see anyone "flatly opposing" others views, or being "malignantly arrogant" in the way you describe (apart from your post just now, where you are arguing that your opinion on the topic-ness of the thread is right).  On the contrary, i see people debating the inclusion of former Jedi in the poll (such as those that left, or fell to the dark side), and the pros/cons of certain characters' personalities.

Heated argument/flaming is not justified, but peaceful discussion and debate is certainly within the bounds of the topic.  As such, this thread is on topic (apart from this disagreement over the bounds of the topic itself), and i would appreciate it if everyone could kindly ensure it stays that way.

I apologize for apparently offending you with offering my lowly opinion of characters as i see them.  The reason was not to bash anyone else's opinion but to present reasons why some other popular Jedi( and former Jedi) were not my favorite as to give some actual points to open constructive discussion on not only which Jedi is someone's favorite, but why.  I guess i should have just opened a new thread huh?

Slornie, I thought they were. I was so smitten with mindlessness that I was derived of proper judgement. If they impose their characters upon others and argue with them when this is about their favourite character then I will go up in flames of a hallowed abyss attempting to devour all emnity and contemptuous thoughts and words and people.

We can't see for certain what the outcome would have been if the empire was still in power when the vong arrived. Palpatine was one of the first to know that the vong even existed.

also anakin was whiny and sad. the worst outcome for a chosen one possible in my opinion. always ignoring his fellow jedi and thinking that palpatine was actually his friend. In the end the fool was tricked by palpatine, destroyed the jedi temple, lost his wife, and not to mention killed  jedi younglings. oh and he killed obi wan as well. In my books anakin was a complete fool. i only have some respect for him cuz he killed the emperor and saved luke.
Title: Re: favorite jedi character

ok so vader/anakin involuntarely killed obi wan. big deal. he's still invloved in his death and he was a leading cause (old age was a close 2nd). not only that but he basically hurt obi wan badly when betraying the jedi.

this snot nosed brat called anakin doesn't deserve to live. he was easily controlled by palpatine and shrugged off the jedi's advice time and time again. he only truly became respectable when he saved luke and even then it was brief. Anakin was too damn Naive and foolish thinking only of himself and His precious Padme. He wuz probably easy pickings for good old palpatine.

you all spend too much time criticizing anain. Granted he became a horrible person but he had a shitty life. He was born as a slave, gained freedom and was at first denied by the jedi, Qui-gon/obi-wan got him in. He was still not truly accepted by everyone else. His mom was brutally tortured and killed. He had nightmares about his love dying in childbirth. told the council about palpatine and was denied the ability to do anything, and while trying to get palpatine a trial, ended up getting windu killed.
Anakin's problems make his actions almost understandable...
Title: Re: favorite jedi character

thats like saying the situation caused the problem which everyone knows its not true. anakin made choices. those choices were poor ones. that is why he fails
Title: Re: favorite jedi character
Post by: grandadmiralbeck on May 06, 2008, 11:10:43 PM
a situation should never define a choice, anakin was always anakin, no matter the situation, he had always had hate, fear, and thirst for power. palpatine just made all that come full circle.

So this is supposed to make Anakin a good person and justify his actions? Nope. He should have proven himself not justified the jedi's beliefs about him. He was a fool plain and simple. He massacred hundreds if not thousands. Not to mention tortured Han Solo. How could he be so naive as to fall under the influence of palpatine? Not even Jar Jar was tricked by Palpatine!! Jar Jar always fought for diplomacy and the republic even though he was stupid. If Anakin can't even do whats right that tells u a lot about his intellegience levels.

ok yeah he did have a horrible life and i do aknowledge that. the only reason palpatine gave him respect though wuz because he wanted to use him. not exactly respect is it?

i'm just saying he made way too many bad decisions which ended with countless people dying so thats why i have little respect for him. Well he was innocent and nice as a kid but that quickly turned sour. i have little respect for him but i do agree thought he did have a crappy life. of course a lot of the crappiness could have been avoided if he simply stayed as a jedi in the first place.

Palpatine was master at deceiving people. but true. Anakin's actions caused the result. but you can't excpect someone to care from other people and their opinions when he has lost everuthing he cared about. he, savior of dozens of worlds, had lost everything. why should lesser beings with less good deeds be allowed to have everything? I believe he used that as justification to his actions. and also that he had no choiche.
