karma does not affect you in anyway for ranking. its just people voicing their oppinions openly.

Rank is determined by post count, the more posts, the higher your rank.  The stars are also associated with your rank/posts.

so like apparantly people hate me but love arbiter. because of karma levels. it does not affect you in any other way.

Basically yes. it does not affect you in anyway except mabye your self-esteem. it just let's you know how people feel about you.
