Title: Boarding Parties
Post by: Bucman55 on April 12, 2017, 04:59:07 PM
How exactly does this ability work? I've used it numerous times on all kinds of ships in all kinds of situations and it rarely seems to work. Are there a set of factors the game takes into account to determine weather or not a boarding attempt is successful? If so, I'd like to know what they are so I can more effectively use the ability.

The target of the boarding need to reach 0 hull while the boarding party is still active in order to proc the switchover. To get the most out of it you need to micro your MC-80s and watch the health of the ship you plan on capturing like a hawk. If you do that, you can capture any ship that's not a Titan. Having some Praetors in the NR fleet sure feels good.

Once the ability is cast and the pods reach the target, you have X amount of time (currently 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds by level) to kill the target ship. If the ship doesn't take critical damage in that time, it does nothing. If it takes enough damage to die, the ship will change to your side and over a few seconds, recover 5/10/15/20 (by level) hull and shield points. Either you're not doing enough damage to kill the ship, or the ship is then taking damage faster than it repairs after being boarded (this can happen a lot when you were focus-firing it beforehand, or if another ship cast an ability while it was an enemy ship).

Thank you guys for the assistance. Stealing enemy capital ships is extremely fun!

Why spend resources on your own capital ships when you can just steal theirs!

Especially when some of them have such nifty abilities you wouldn't be able to get otherwise.

Indeed.  A massive fleet of Praetors under the New Republic's command would be quite frightening to see.  ;)

If a PA player upgraded a Praetor with increased damage, then a NR player captured it, could they use the Smuggler's Den buff to increase it further?

What PA upgrade are you referring to?  I'm not familiar with the faction that much. :(

Smuggler Den's have a buffing ability?

It's supposed to, but I think it's borked in the current version of Ascendancy. Could be wrong about that though.
