Title: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Corey on December 14, 2007, 11:39:03 PM
We already have Golans in for the Empire, and shipyards for all factions as well as Ubiqtorate stations for the empire, but what other space buildings would you like to see?

maybe some civilian spacestations where you can hire mercenaries or something like that. and maybe pirate bases for certain planets.

The Wheel (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_wheel)?

Centerpoint (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Centerpoint)

Maw Installation (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Maw_Installation) - A special structure that works the same as the ground Research Facility.

:P

XQ Platforms? bit obvious, i know...

The moon base thing over Kessel, in addition to your normal space station

centerpoint- no. not in canon. wasn't found until 40ABY, or at least wasn't reactivated until themn. plus, it would be a bit powerful.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Scarecrow63 on December 15, 2007, 04:23:04 PM
not in canon? it was the topic of a book series and wiped out hundreds of ships at Fondor
how is that not canon?
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Meyer on December 15, 2007, 04:24:41 PM
it was known before 40ABY as it was used during the first Corellian insurrection at 18 ABY. but I do agree that it is very powerful. but then again, so is Death Star.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on December 15, 2007, 05:52:40 PM
it wasn't used in the time period.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?

your argument still doesnt make any sense, whats the cut-off for finding stuff for it to be canon, 10 aby? 10 bby?
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Corey on December 15, 2007, 09:04:02 PM
Centerpoint will be in the mod as a prop for the Corellian Space map in R1. We may make it do more in R2, but thats yet to be decided.

when it was recorded asbeing used first in a preiod in whioch a release is loking in to

that doesnt make any sense....
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on December 16, 2007, 01:58:00 PM
if it was used by any person during the period, go ahead. mind you, i'm talking about a canonical superweapon. in terms of units, my opinion is different.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Scarecrow63 on December 16, 2007, 02:11:29 PM
It had always been there, people knew about it, they just didnt realize it could be a superweapon, so it being in corellian space seems plenty canon to me
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?

I agree with Scarecrow.

it would seem centerpoint would be way overpowered, considering it can move whole stars and systems, remember it was powered by repulsor lifts built into the core of certain planets, i guess it would be cool if they added it so if u owned a certain number of planets surrounding centerpoint it could do damage, and more damage per planet, but still itd be hard to create balance  ;)

if you all played kotor 2 maybe have a planet like telos with a massive station orbiting it covering about 25% of 1 hemisphere.
here is a link.

Possibly the skyhook? (shadows of the empire, N64)
iunno, im just throwing ideas out there

Post by: aNaRcHiSt44 on March 25, 2008, 01:14:02 AM
What was that SkyHook thing? I never knew what it was, but wasnt it commanded by Xizor? And wasnt Darth Vader trying to destroy the thing as well? It must indicate that it was a super-weapon......
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Dane Kiet on March 25, 2008, 03:20:49 PM
No, it's just an private space station.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: aNaRcHiSt44 on March 27, 2008, 05:14:46 AM
Hmmm.....
In any case, I guess that Dash Rendar was pissed off at Xizor, and so was Darth Vader, so they took the opportunity to attack him, though they obviously never intended to do so at the same time, though it worked out quite well.

Anyway, back on topic
What about space slugs? They could attack ships or somthing.

You can't give space things attack animations.

thats actually a great idea
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on March 30, 2008, 08:17:57 PM
like a mynock hive?
mynocks don't time out like buzz droids and mynocks are too small to attack by ship.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Isamu on March 30, 2008, 09:49:33 PM
yea but mynocks did damage ships. they could come out of asteroids or something like that.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?

I dont know what good theyd be against fast-moving warships that are shielded....
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: aNaRcHiSt44 on March 31, 2008, 12:44:15 AM
I thought they sucked out the energy on a ship? Wouldnt that technically count as decreasing the shields? And they would probably be able to catch up to the larger warships; just make them move sort of like buzz-droids perhaps?

based on what?
you saw them in episode 5. judgig their speed, they wouldn't of been able to catch up too a fighter.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: aNaRcHiSt44 on March 31, 2008, 07:05:07 AM
Judging from their speed in the movie, they could just as easily not be trying as they are being drunken louts. They could probably catch up to a larger warship, not a fighter, but a warship perhaps.....

as mentioned, a mynock on a warship is comparable to a barnacle on a whale. it makes no difference.

meh it was just a suggestion.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on April 01, 2008, 03:12:54 AM
mynocks just aren't fast enouggh to catch up with what it could really damage, although i  do remember in kotor 2, over dxun, them saying that they stirred up a mynock nest which caused problems.
but in 0ABY, mynocks hang around shipyards like fondor. why? big ships with no shields on = 1337 energy.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Isamu on April 01, 2008, 12:57:11 PM
i think stirring up a mynocks nest is just a figure of speech

And do you thing the figure of speech appeared from nowhere?

no i'm just saying that its a figure of speech.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on April 02, 2008, 06:00:46 AM
but why would they say it? the ebon hawk hyperspaced into a skirmish between the republik and Vaklu. they had already "stirred up a mynoock's nest". to say it again, tey must have done it for real.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Isamu on April 02, 2008, 01:07:13 PM
did you see any mynocks? i'm sure it came from ships landing on asteroids and mynocks coming out and getting attached to the ships.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: vadereclipse on April 02, 2008, 04:40:23 PM
they said that when you landed on dxun, not in spave. i happened after the ebon hawk passed through.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?

they still weren't talking about mynocks.

they still weren't talking about mynocks.
how do you know?
i have at least evidence through common sense. you have NO evidence.
they were. dxun was a warsite in the mandalorian wars. tthere must have been a lot of scrap in space. perfect for mynocks.
i have more evidence than you that there were mynocks.

agreed, a saying from a rushed cut-off star wars game doesnt have much to do with space buildings.

when you do put centerpoint in as a prop, make it bigger than zerox's, it was smaller than a star destroyer....

Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?

this isn't exactly space buildings but its close. fondor should have an asteroid system near it to simulate their ship building resources. i suggest this be a separate system and be worth a ton of credits.

centerpoint station- a building in space. a space building.
centerpoint is more on topic than asteroids on fondor. fondor exploited nearby worlds. why would they put asteroids near a shipyard?  that would destroy the ships being built there, and the docks.
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Corey on April 06, 2008, 12:18:38 PM
Actually, most shipyard planets had nearby asteroid fields. They will be represented in the spacxe maps of those planets and their income, but they won't be separate planets.

I suggest an orbital defense station. I know a number of different factions used them, including some wealthy pirates. They were mainly used to defend planetary systems however sometimes used in other areas such as trade routes. Perhaps it could take the place of the gravity well generator or long range scanner for a faction. Maybe the CIS could use them as there is mention of both the Trade Federation and the Banking Clan employing large well-armed satellites to defend trade routes and controlled planets.

I think there would be some limitations in that I believe you could only have one additional defense station accompanying your main space station because it would take the place of either the scanner or the gravity well. Never the less I think it is possible to change the name of the gravity well, take away it's abilities, change the model/skin and give it hard points and armaments. That of course is a dumbed down version of the trouble the mod-team would have to go through in order to do such a thing. I personally feel like with the increase in space pop cap that the normal space station is rather weak and the "Orbital Defense Station" would go a long way in helping stave off those Rebel/Republic/Vong invaders.

This is a suggestion for all factions in general however I have to look out for my fellow confederates so here's a canonizing link (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Muunilinst_gun_platform)! Your support and feedback, are as always, very welcome. Also, I realize I have no idea how to make my suggestion work on a technical level so if this would be far too complex and time consuming remember it's just a suggestion and I do not mean to cause the mod-team any extra stress!

As far as i know, your idea has already been included in the mod, with the plan being to give each faction a unique defence platform:  Golans for the Empire, XQ platforms for the Alliance, and a newly designed platform (from our resident Concept Artist) for the EotH.

I think there would be some limitations in that I believe you could only have one additional defense station accompanying your main space station because it would take the place of either the scanner or the gravity well. From what i can gather, i think the limit of two special structures has been removed (although only two of those built will show on the Galactic Map), and the defence platforms will be an extra option for you to build, along with the various levels of shipyards required to build your ships.

If im wrong on this, Arbiter will be along to correct me later :P
Title: Re: Space Buildings: What do you want to see?
Post by: Corey on April 28, 2008, 03:15:18 PM
Slornie is more or less correct, but I'll give some more specifics. Each faction has their standard starbase, then you have some additional slots for those buildings, the amount of which vary from planet to planet, as do what you can build there. For example, you'd have more slots on Kuat than on Dantooine. The options you have for those slots vary between factions:

Empire:
Shipyards- Light Frigate, Heavy Frigate, Capital, Heavy Capital
Defence- Golan I, Golan II, Golan III
Other- Scanners

Rebellion:
Shipyards- Light Frigate, Heavy Frigate, Capital
Defence- XQ5 (We're only including one kind because all six XQs are basically the same thing)
Other- Scanners

Empire of the Hand:
Shipyards- Light Frigate, Heavy Frigate, Capital, Heavy Capital
Defence- Four "confidential" platforms
Other- Scanners

Obviously, you wouldn't be able to build everything everywhere. Golan Is, XQ5s, one of the EotH platforms, scanners and Light frigate shipyards are the only things able to be built everywhere.

Four "confidential" platforms. I wonder what those are?
