Title: Defeated a fleet, that included a Viscount, with only 21 Defenders.
Post by: bobatbob on August 12, 2016, 02:01:10 AM
While recording a self-handicapped run of "From the Ground Up" on Admiral; where I was trying to complete the GC only using only Defenders I ran into a situation. I hear the sound cue, "Enemy Fleet Approaching". Though, fortunately, I'm not dumb enough to leave my planets completely undefended. I have 21 Defender Squadrons stationed on Farfin; this is usually enough to repel most of the fleets the AI decides to send. However, this one was different it included a Viscount. The issue isn't the Viscount itself, it's the seemingly endless waves of fighters it spawns nearly destroying all of my Defenders. I'm currently uploading a video to YouTube of the skirmish and I will edit it in the post whenever it finishes. Though considering my ISP is the equivalent of a potato it may take some time.

In true star wars fashion, the little tiny fighters kill the massive warship.

It was a glorious moment, indeed.

ugh.. I'll overlay with some Beethoven and repost. The track that plays when on the victory screen caused the block.

Who needs Star Destroyers and hypervelocity guns when all you need are Tie Defenders.

Someone here thinks he's Rogue Squadron!

Well, who needs those comdined fleets with ISDs, VSDs, Strike Cruisers, Lancers etc. when you can spam TIE/D?

Also is it me, or AI doesn't create any anti-fighter ships? From all of my games I can only remember seeing CR90 being spawned at shipyards and some that you've got from the start.

I guess a better analogy would be someone thinks they're Zaarin.
It depends. i find the NR builds a lot of anti fighter ships. The IR not so much

You see i find it's the other way round where the NR don't build as many and the Imps build tons.

I had 1 battle (not this badly most of the time) where there was 21 lancers, the next most used unit was 5 carrack's.

When the NR comes at me it's usually a billion DP20s and two billion Marauders (well, exaggerating obviously but their fleets are routinely over a hundred of each). Once I hit era 4 Coronas are added to the mix. PA tends to just send Praetors or their heroes backed by Praetors. IR and EotH fleets tend to be more diverse in my games.

This and, as you've said, with addition of the Coronas from the era 4. Sometimes AI builds fleets of BACs and Sacheens, as we could see in the video. Although I only remember one GC when AI was spamming BACs, after it I've stopped creating fleets that contain 1 SSD+ ~50 TIE/Ds and started using VSD Is.

Don't know much about IR fleets though, as the only GC I've played different faction was Shadow Hand where AI attacked me with only SSDs backed by Praetors for obvious reasons.

This is why Corey doesn't have music enabled.
