Title: The Heroic Dilemma: Bounty Hunters for Hire?
Post by: Pentastar Enforcer on August 07, 2016, 01:54:18 PM
So in recent times, especially with the buildup of Imperial Civil War 2.2 update and the three new Warlord led factions, there seems to be a certain dilemma with the number of heroes for each of these factions. I'm not sure what you guys think, but last night while playing Star Wars Battlefront on my Xbox One, I may have thought of something interesting to add to the game to help fill slots (or at least something else interesting to add with the upcoming and very good looking ground based sub-mod) for the otherwise lacking lists of heroes for the game. First however, let's take a few steps back to the year of 1980, when a film called The Empire Strikes Back hit theaters across the world for the very first time, bringing joy and excitement to millions of people, with stories about Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, the Princess and the Scoundrel, and of course these guys.

I believe this sort of scum, according to Piett, could very well fill in some spots for the current lack of heroes, with depending on how they could be implemented, one for each faction of the leftovers of the Galactic Empire, with Bossk going with the Greater Maldrood, or Dengar working for the Eriadu Authority on a Mercenary job, while Fett would work for the main remnant of course. Though they wouldn't canonically fit working with these factions, it's entirely possible that with the criminal undertones of some of the aforementioned groups *cough Maldrood cough* Bounty Hunters, such as these, could possibly work and fight in the wars that followed Endor. These men need to keep paying their bills, and for mercenaries like them, war can be extremely profitable...

What do you guys think overall? Hire yourself a bounty hunter for ground battles and as an elite fighter capable of going toe-to-toe with ships like the Millennium Falcon, as well as being stealth capable, and there's plenty of stuff to work with seeing as these guys have had some recent spotlight.

First of all, thanks for mentioning my submod.
About bounty hunters, I myself gave some thought into bringing them in, but in the end it turned out to be something less than acceptable, even only on the drawing tables. Their main aspect(being a bounty hunter) cannot be implemented, since if a hero dies, it's over for him/her and this would make bounty hunters A; if can return extremely OP or B; if they can't practically useless other than an OP ground unit which shouldn't be there in the first place. This is something I always loved about ThRev (even before they took me in) that there was nothing there that didn't made any sense. For example: Jerec is with PA because Ardus paid his bills while trying to find the Valley of the Jedi, so there was a definite connection there, even if he was never really part of the PA. These bounty hunters might had some reasons to work for the warlords or remnant, but they didn't really lived with it.
Though a method I came up with to at least represent them as real mercenaries(since bounty hunters really were those) was to not just have a high recruitment cost, but to actually suck your credits while they work for you, using the same ability that gives Lando the +150 credits, just actually making you -350(what I came up with while trying to figure out what would be appropriate).
Maybe this little idea would help you work something out :)

To quote Corey in the 2.2 Manifesto:

There will be some heroes available for recruitment only on certain planets, for example bounty hunters like Dengar and Bossk for most Imperial groups, or Rei'kas and Krassis Trelix for the Pentastar Alignment.

I never said they won't be implemented ;)
God... I barely part of the team for a month and already starting to talk like Corey... I don't know if it's good or what.

The only thing I'd like to defend for this is that with Bounty Hunters it could simply be that when they die their contract is up, and they move on. Many people in star wars have cheated death, with some making almost a profession out of it, and I imagine them dying could slide as them moving on from there contracts or something.

So I don't understand what bounty hunters are working for who? And if these bounty hunters are coming does that mean cool bounty hunter ships?

I dunno either to be honest. I'd love to see bounty hunters to be recruitable for the Warlords factions, just to be OP fighters or OP ground units at the very least, but we'll see who shows up for whatever faction when the time comes.
