Title: Infinities: From the Ground UP. AI unbalanced... New Republic seem to dominate.
Post by: havoccrm on March 29, 2016, 07:35:11 PM
hello,
So I've been playing Thrawn's Revenge for a few days now. I decided to play the Infinities: From the Ground UP galatic conquest. As I wanted to try something new, I played as the Imperial Remnant. However to my dismay, after conquering 6 planets. I bumped into the New Republic. Who smashed and wiped my ship off the space map.
I thought that maybe I had been not aggressive enough.
So I restared... 3 more times.

On the third time after conquer just 8 sectors I bumped in to them again and the Republic had already built its grand capital ship.

Now everytime I check vs they other factions. But nada. in AI mode only the Repbulic, can be that aggressive. Also I was only playing the setup in medium.
By week they 3 their economy was 200 larger than any other faction.
Please is this a balance issue or do the Republic have a special setup where they can generate credits faster than any faction?

Otherwise I love this mod keep up the good work!

The AI gets more starting resources (planets, ships) than the player does in FTGU, which is true for all factions. This is primarily because if the AI starts with one planet, they will never expand; the game just assumes they've lost and they don't do anything. It also forestalls the EaW selection freeze issue by limiting the number of times some of the neutral planets are fought over (so the selection bug doesn't occur before week 40).

That being said, keep in mind FTGU is meant to be one of the more challenging, if not the most challenging, GCs in the mod. I'm not the best person to talk about specific strategies, but if you look through this subforum, there are multiple threads specifically about strategy for each faction in this particular GC. Kucsidave recently did a few "walkthroughs" for them: http://thrawnsrevenge.com/forums/index.php?topic=5760.0

I've found FTGU to be the most fun, and I have beaten it with every faction on Admiral.

The worst part of the GC is the endless sleughs of frigates. The AI just likes to build build build masses of frigates and (more often than not) send them to their doom.

Time is really the worst part of FTGU.

Gotta agree with the frigate spam.  Gets old really quick, but also understandable since it starts happening after you've conquered most of the capital yards, so the AI CAN'T build many caps anymore.

Except the Viscounts they spawn out of thin space.
But i quit enjoy the frigate spam. At least its not Sacheens.
But on the point of the AI, i tested with taking away all the planets the NR and EotH had in the IR FTGU (except Bothawui and Nirauan) and as long as you're on admiral the AI works fine. It just takes them about 15 galactic weeks to get started.
