Title: Religon
Post by: Meyer on October 11, 2007, 01:31:14 PM
Which is the best in your opinion?
Title: Re: Religon

personally, im not religious...but if i had to choose, it would be "other"...the true form of christianity which is based on the gospel of thomas, which is closest to gospel of jesus. it states "The Kingdom of God is within you, not in buildings of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and I am there. Lift the stone and you will find me." so naturally, was declared heracy by the church.
i actually knew about this before i saw or heard of Stigmata, which talks about it. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_St._Thomas#Notes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_St._Thomas#Notes) for the Gospel of Thomas

originally, religionwas useful...but in modern day society, it serves no purpose...

what especially annoys me is that parents can send their children 2 RC schools and that, so they get brainwashed with religion....i was sent to one ofthese schoools, and was oneof the few that saw reality.

i honestly cant understand why so many smart, intelligent people are religious.
and i go to a methodist school and virtually everyone in my year (grade for you americans) is not religious or seriously at the least
Title: Re: Religon
Post by: s-t-n on October 11, 2007, 02:36:24 PM
from the age of 3 i was being brainwashed with it. but i managed to find science, which i founda much better answer than "because god did it".

just to let you know, the main reason these smart, intellegent people choose religion is for comfort, in one form or another. my mum is religios because she NEEDS to know that the people who made her life a misery will have justice dealt to them.

Yes it is.  I hate topics where people flame religion.

"Hey, if you read history, you'll notice God is one of the leading causes of death!"

I voted other. I'm assuming all = wrong is under other. I'm not at all a fan of religion. I've gone to catholic school all my life. All the prayers and such drive me crazy, but I must tell you it's interesting to watch its effects on all the people around you. Usually I don't  like what I see. I could get into a whole discussion about my thoughts on it... but in a nutshell, I see religion as just books written ages ago with stories of good morals and to give people [false?] hope.

I don't really hate any religion. I just can't believe that there is some almighty God who guides our lives. but I also think that if there is a God it will not be good to just say that he isn't. so I use my Lutherism as a backup.

Title: Re: Religon

Many people believe in some sort of afterlife because they are afraid of nonexistence, however the good thing about nonexistence is that you have nothing to worry about, and you won't care that you don't exist.
Title: Re: Religon
Post by: Meyer on October 13, 2007, 02:35:00 AM
quite philosofical. but you are right. I'm afraid of nonexisting but if there isn't afterlife after death I don't have to worry about it.

I like that. :)

I tend to think sometimes that perhaps after you die your existence becomes whatever you want it to be or what you expected it to be. Or perhaps it all starts over...not in the way of say Buddhism, but everything around you, you, and the universe is completely different. Ever think maybe everything around you never existed before you and will not exist after you, and they're just your imagination preparing you for something else maybe? Maybe there are different universes inside cells inside cells etc. I don't know, and I probably shouldn't, cause then where's the fun? I could get into a whole plethora (zomg big word) of ideas and theories about life and the afterlife etc if you catch me at the right time of the night in the right state of mind...like now for example, haha.

Who knows...good discussion, though...

I don't even believe in an after life, I don't see any real point of it. you go there when you die then you get pampered for like all of eternity, I would get bored if it was like that. Or if you've been  bad(which everyone one has been)will be tortured for all of eternity and  i dont really like the sound of both of them.

Maybe not just getting pampered for eternity, maybe just taking everything in your life you liked doing and minus everything you didnt

I don't have anything agaisnt religion, but the people in charge and stuff make it bad, like the catholic priest scandals and the whole terrorism leaders teaching its holy to blow yourself up

So there is some sensible stuff in this topic... I do agree that the Catholic Church is destroying itself with popes and priests. Sounds a lot to me like Judaism.

And even if you dont think that people should "believe" them, they are still beneficial in terms of morals and society, etc.
Title: Re: Religon

some religions like buddhism have nice ideas (not that i believe in the bigger picture) and dont cause many problems.
christianity and islam, however cause problems.
don't get me wrong, i respect any religion, i just cant stasnd fundamentalism in religieon, like people who take the bible word to word. the bible to me i a book of good morals (except the bits like homosexuality is a sin, not that i am gay)
Title: Re: Religon
Post by: Meyer on October 20, 2007, 08:13:36 AM
and what about your views of judaism? it's very similar to christianity and they are the ones causing problems in middle-east. Personally I think that christianity, judaism and islam are three forms of one religion. and I also think that homosexuality is against nature. and should be banned. especially gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt a child. I hope they never get that right.
Title: Re: Religon
Post by: vadereclipse on October 20, 2007, 10:29:30 AM
judaism predates christianity and Islam. Nowadays, there are few problems between christianity and Judaism, but Islam has enormous problems with them
its because after 1945, the founding of Israel. If the allies werent so ethical and politically correct, there would be a hell of a lot less problems tosday.

or if israel and all of those muslim countries that surround it would just stop the bloodshed. and that's odd in my mind. As far as i know the 10 commandments (or how it's written) are very important to jews. but still they completely disobey the Fourth: thy shall not kill.

or do you mean pagan romans?

ROMAN! how do you get greek from that? Roman gods are the best there are. Although you could see them as the one god of christianity who has different names depending the matter where you need help or something else.
Title: Re: Religon

well said
im sick of intolerance in the world.
ABSOLUTELY SICK.
its not a choice of lifestyle, homosexuality (not saying its a bad thing) and if they want to live like that, so be it.
likewise, communism is a system of government. Personally, I am only against it because it has been proved no tto work nd to take the tiime to properly showcase it, you'd need a hell of a long reign with no change. On the other hand, I am against Fascism and dictatorship, because they are prejudice, racist, oppressive, and dont work fairly IN THIS DAY OF AGE.
