Title: Making the ISD1 reasonable to build
Post by: Battycherpsbro on August 04, 2015, 09:19:57 AM
Understandably there isn't much reason to build ISD1's as the ISD2 is only a small expense more for a substantial performance improvement, my thought is this, if you could change the hardpoints of the quad and dual turbolaser turrets and make them into ion cannons, perhaps up the amount of shots the quad fires and it would become a good counter to the new republic cruisers with their heavy shields. Also the reduction in damage to hull will compensate for the increased ion weapons, this gives the isd1 more of a use other than at the beginning of the game where you receive starting units

Yeah, simply changing guns isn't gonna happen. That's because each space vessel's weaponry is set up in such a fashion as to represent its canonical armament. The Imp Star Deuce was, canonically speaking, flat out better than the original in every respect. The other option would be to lower the price, but considering especially in eras 1-2 where the NR has very little heavy weaponry of its own to contend with ISDs, this has the potential to throw the balance out of whack.

There's also taking it off the roster entirely, but the ISD is pretty much a mandatory component of any Star Wars game ever from this period.

Yeah, the ISD is too much "the face" of the Empire to ever remove it, even if noone builds them past the few you start with.

Maybe then the ISD-I should be cheaper to build but then locked after the first era?

I'd say lock after era2 if you do that way.  Thrawn used ISD's, and built ISD's, like crazy...he was the main leader that never bothered with dreadnoughts.

Except the Katana type!  ;)

But that was because he found them and not built them, they only required minimal crew and yada yada yada...
An actual solution to this problem would be to instead of decreasing ISD Is price, increase ISD IIs price with a few more bucks and everything will be fine.

DreadnOUghts, not dreadnAUghts.

Dreadnought = star dreadnought, a ship of the line over 5 KM in length devoted primarily to being combat oriented, possibly with secondary roles as carrier or command ship (also the proper spelling when referring to the actual naval vessels)

Dreadnaught = a 600 meter old republic ship that the Alliance to restore the Republic modified into the Assault Frigate.

In this situation it would be best to increase the price gap between the 2 units
