Title: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 06, 2007, 01:23:43 PM
Pick your favourite choice to power up the World. I choose nuclear power.

Renewables all the way!
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 06, 2007, 01:31:34 PM
they would be fine but they are expensive and give little power compared to nuclear.

Post by: Slornie on October 06, 2007, 01:32:46 PM
It depends on the specifics of the renewable source.  And nuclear power is just as expensive.

I say Renewable because whats the point of wasting a resource that can only be used once and only once.

Fusion Power
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 06, 2007, 03:21:48 PM
yep. fusion power is the real savior of Earth. not renewable sources. but fusion power is, in a certain point of view, a renewable itself. but it still uses nuclear technology.

Except the complete opposite of the current way, so its like accident invincible or something

And yes, it is renewable, i think they gonna use just helium or hydrogen, which basically means we will never run out
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 06, 2007, 05:35:41 PM
isn't the only thing required water? and yes you can't run out of that.

your not think of heavy water are you(heavy water has more hydrogen i think o.0)

no I ment regular water. that think that comes from skies when it rains. At least in my school our teacher said that it is the only thing needed for fusion power.

But until they get it sussed (which could be years, if not decades), we will need to use renewables if we arent to run out of fuel or wind up destroying our planet through pollution..

nuclear is much more effcient.

No he means heavy water, heavy water is that stuff that is like water but has more hydrogen, the stuff that was said is used to in making power from fusion, and dont start being a smart arse i know what rain is i live in England.

What is it with everyone and complaining about the rain in England?? It isnt all that bad  :-\
Title: Re: Energy sources

and whose fault is that? but no my teacher was very specific that it only needs normal water. Unless sea water is heavy water. because she said that "seas are full of water to use". And I personally like rain. it freshess the air.

its taken from the sea, you could say mined from the sea. Use Wikipedia it should explain to you more then I could.

but the water in sea ain't heavy water unitl processed. it's just regular water with lots of salt in it.

Fusion and hydrogen are the 2 big hopes for the future
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Scarecrow63 on October 06, 2007, 06:09:41 PM
Actually they already have fusion plants that work, but not as much as they're supposed to, in a couple years they'll complete construction on one that will be more of a final version, so it wont take much longer

And it doesn't use heavy water, the only thing they use the water for is to power a steam turbine

add "other" please, and i pick anti-matter!
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 07, 2007, 02:35:54 AM
Well if you can prove there is anti-matter.
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Scarecrow63 on October 07, 2007, 12:43:37 PM
There is, we can already make it
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 07, 2007, 12:57:29 PM
but can you use it safely in energy production?
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Scarecrow63 on October 07, 2007, 01:06:08 PM
safely, yes

efficiently, no
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 07, 2007, 01:25:38 PM
well let's add it to the list.
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: vadereclipse on October 07, 2007, 03:57:39 PM
actually:
efficiently: yes
safely
no
a  drop could destroy new york or something crazy like that
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Slornie on October 07, 2007, 04:38:33 PM
Efficiently or safely? I didnt think so.. Accelerating particles to enormous speeds then colliding them  :-\ Or am i thinking of something else  ???

You're definetly thinking of something else, i dont know what though

And the cost would be ridiculous too, to make one single gram of the stuff would take 100 billion years and 100 quadrillion dollars and the current rates, and no im not making those numbers up cause they're huge
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Meyer on October 08, 2007, 12:22:10 AM
so it seems that anti-matter is not an viable option. of the list it is.
Title: Re: Energy sources
Post by: Scarecrow63 on October 08, 2007, 07:16:43 PM
no, not quite viable
