Hello guys!
I've recently gotten to this particular stage of my Art of War NR conquest.
It is Era 2. I have successfully taken all IR shipyards denying them the use of Star Destroyers. They are down to very few planets. I have already encountered the freeze once (admittedly, the first time ever). Defreezer worked like a charm.
However, will the game crash if I kill Thrawn and take the space on the last IR planet? I've heard of these era-change crashes happening before (new heroes not having anywhere to spawn), and wasn't sure if this error was ever corrected. Either way, I will be creating a backup save so that I don't lose anything permanently.
Indeed, I would quite like to limit this particular game to Era 2 (never being able to move on due to lack of Era 3 heroes/Imperial Remnant). I am in a very promising position, and the EotH does not receive their dreaded Phalanx Destroyers until Era 3, meaning their biggest threat will never surface.

If you're playing with the 2.15 patch you should be fine.

I am indeed.
However, may I ask what happens? Does the era just remain where it is for good, or do they spawn after all?

It'll advance to era three, and then stop there. Essentially the old crash was caused by the game trying to give stuff to a faction that doesn't exist anymore, so the way (hopefully temporarily) fixed it is by giving each faction that gets stuff spawned in with era changes a planet off the edge of the galaxy which basically just acts as a failsafe in case there's nowhere else to put their crap. This is obviously not ideal, since it means the GC technically also won't end. I've been looking into better ways to just disable the events, but with one possible exception I honestly don't know how well any of them would work.

I must say that is ingenious. In all honesty, I am the type of gamer far more interested in the content and gameplay mechanics than the graphics or the "victory screen."
