Just curious about what the total amount of factions would be in the far future. So far there is the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic of course, then the Pentastar Alignment and the Empire of the Hand coming up next. But what (and how many) afterwards?
-
Well, and this doesn't really help you very much, there was one screenshot (http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-ascendancy/images/the-never-ending-cycle#imagebox) posted over on ModDB which teased a future beyond 1.0. :)
-
Well, that screenshot and the existing in game faction select screen in 0.9-0.95
-
Between those four and the Ssi-Ruuvi and Vong, six. The Sins engine can handle as many as ten playable factions, but as far as I know there are no plans to go beyond the six already planned.
-
There also may be the Hapes Cluster, the original six had it instead of the PA. However they may still appear as implied by this quote http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-ascendancy/news/faction-profile-pentastar-alignment (http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-ascendancy/news/faction-profile-pentastar-alignment), "The fourth ICW faction makes its debut in Ascendancy. And also complicates the faction select screen, but more on that later." I assume complicates means they have to have seven slots for seven fractions.

Hope they keep the Hapes Consortium as a upcoming playable faction, loved their portrayal in Courtship, and Hapes: Ladies First. Also would be nice to command a fleet of Battle Dragons opposed to being on the other side of them.

Zero Command, Eriadu Authority, Greater Maldrood, Ciutric Hegemony Zsinj's Empire and the Yevetha!

I feel like Zsinjs empire or the PA could represent the warlords well, seeing how the warlords didn't have access to galaxy guns and world devastators.

I feel like the best way would be having certain research that gives you some of the flavor units of that particular Warlord, such as Zsinj's getting the TIE Raptor and Greater Maldrood getting the Crimson Victory ISD. Similar to the research for the Katana Fleet, or Daala / Pellaeon Doctrine.

Honestly that could work way better. I just don't like the idea of having Teradoc or something with a galaxy gun and Sovereign SSD, those should belong only to the Emperor's faction.

Perhaps one faction named Imperial Warlords with that idea, then we wouldn't have that issue.

I like the tech option. Unique units like the Crimson Command, Night Hammer, TIE Raptor, Night Cloak, Pirate ships and such without giving them access to Sovereigns and GG.
As one faction spread out among their various territories this could work well and even in the far future offer a new meta faction option to play that lacks a lot of the resources of the mainstream Empire giving them added difficulty.

The Star Wars Interregnum mod already has exactly this, actually - a Warlords faction with a tech tree slightly different from the Empire's, as well as techs that can only be researched depending on which Warlord you choose to be.
Frankly, I'm far more interested in the TR team focusing on doing the more unique factions that they're working on - adding the Ssi-Ruuk, the Vong, the EotH, all add a potentially very different gaming experience than the NR, IR and PA. With both the latter two, we've already got two factions that are Empire-derived; adding more just for the sake of having them doesn't really add much to the game, I think, especially when compared with instead adding completely different factions with different units and playstyles.
