Could someone who has read the books abotu SCI tell me why it began? What did corellia want so much that it caused a war?

Corellia wanted independence i believe, and wanted to have its own independent defence fleet instead of a local GFFA fleet.. something like that.

and wasn't there something about that they wanted all the benefits of being a member in GFFA but none of the duties that comes along?

Yup, they wanted the benefits of full membership, without acting like a member.

Well M-T-I has a point. USA wanted an immunity for war trials in Haag. they didn't get it and know they don't even regognize it legal I think. But I can't think of anything else.
