I have become bland with my fleet builds and am looking for new ideas. Currently I try to build a Vic-II with two Strike-Carrack pairs as the base of the fleet, replacing the Vic with an Acc or extra Strike-Carrack Pair if I don't have money. From there I add a few Lancers to kill the pesky Republic fighters and a few Defenders because they are too awesome not to be bought. But now I am bored with this build and need new plans as my other idea is to sit and wait until I can buy SSDs and ISD-IIs, jump a ISD into the map, wait for the fog to clear, then drop everything right on top of the Rebels. More boringness. So if anyone has genius strange ideas for fleets please share.

Something I have thought of (but never done yet) is a Defender spam. 40 squads warp in and attack.
Vindicators are also fun ships. Pair these with Carracks and carriers for a fun light frigate fleet.
-
Defender spam is awesome. I did it a few times and my only compliant is that it takes awhile to kill Golan IIIs. I also like your Vindicator idea I shall try it.
-
Clarifying question: you mean TIE Defenders, right? I think you do, but just making sure.
And along the lines of fighter spam, it also works well with B-Wings or even X-Wings.
-
Yes, TIE Defenders. We were speaking about the IR, so I just figured the clarification was unnecessary.
-
Why would we be talking about the Rebel terrorist scum? They are inferior in all regards to our glorious Empire. But if I ever decide to play the bad guys I think I will try your X-Wing spam idea. X-Wings were originally an Imperial design after all. Do you have any other ideas for the evil Republic?
-
Somebody always tends to say Quesars, but they aren't available in 4-5 and the Republic tends to have the weakest light cruiser lineup anyway. My favorite ships to mass are MC-80Bs, because they are a vast improvement over Liberties early, while being dirt-cheap (if underpowered) late. Plus they carry B-Wings. (I admit to being rather partial to any type of fighter-bomber, a role the B-Wing fills quite well.)
-
MC-80b's? Been quite annoyed with them lately as they keep popping up in raid fleets, but I shall try them. As for B-Wings and fighter bombers, I do not like them. It is a compromise, therefore inferior to a dedicated platform. Yes, I know that TIE Defenders are officially fighter-bombers but that is like saying a Ferarri is just a car. I would classify the Defender as a "Tiny Capital Ship That Brings Death to all who Oppose it" or a TCSTBDO for short.

That would be the classification of the Skipray Blastboat. The Defender is incredibly powerful, but in canon, a squad of Blastboats is far more threatening to a capital ship than a squad of Defenders. Although in dogfighting, the Defenders would shred the Blastboats without mercy. Blastboat and Missile Boat are the only 2 bombers they have that carry 2 different types of warhead at the same time.
-
Yes, but Skiprays are ugly so get placed into the Ugly ship of doom that will blow you to tiny pieces for laughing at its ugliness class and I thought the Defender was designed to replace the Missile Boat making it more capable than the Boat.

Correction: the Defender replaced the Alpha XG-1 Star Wing (in some ways). The Missile A'Boat was developed to defeat the TIE Defenders of Zaarin.
-
So the Missile boat will now be the Tiny Capital Ship of Doom made to Kill Other Tiny Capital Ships of Doom. Problem solved.
-
No, the Missile Boat is the "god this was a bad idea to ever put this in a story because it's so vastly overpowered".
-
Overkill is under rated.

you need 1 victory, 2 Lancers, 1 Strike Cruiser, and an escort carrier.
just keep your fleet togeather, let the enemy fighters come to u, and cut em down with your lancers and maybe a few fighter squads, than you know your job.
just really make sure that your fighters and bombers survive til the final attack!
it will be fun :)

Seems a little small for an attack fleet, but I shall try it

if you are good enough, belive me it will be enough!
with this fleet i took out the Reaper in captain dificulty soo...
-
Was that in 2.1? Because I highly doubt the ability of 7 fighter squads, 1 cruiser, and 1 frigate to kill an SSD.
-
Yes, that is way too small. Not in terms of population, but size. However, any decent cap ship, with good fighter management, can beat a larger ship. For the PA, for example, all you need is a Praetor, which can take some fire while its fighter load can divert the rest. (Not that having two SSDs of your own hurts, either.)

just the opposite against the SSD
your fighters, wich are diverting the fire from the ship, while your larger ones attack.
if you are carefull enough and waching out for the ships turns, you can bring down the shields without your ships get any dmg!!!
that is the reason you have to make sure your fighters stay alive!
and if u lose a fighter/bomber squadron, an another one comes out for a small period of time. this is why the Escort Carrier for!!!!
thoose small fighters additionally hard to be hit by a turbolaser :)
ok i have to admit it was quite alone...
just lost pesitin vs the eoth, i send this task force there and i found the reaper there lonely...

Are you hiding your Escort Carriers in the far corner? Remember that an SSD's reach is pretty impressive: between their sheer length and weapon ranges, it's usually enough to hit most ships--and destroy them, mind you, because the odds of successfully drawing all 138 weapon hardpoints away from the rather fragile fleet are so drastically small as to be impossible, unless you treat your carriers like ground troops you accidentally took with your fleet.
In short, some of the guns are inevitably going to find your ships, and then you're in trouble. This is why I advise bringing along some heavy guns: something has to bear the brunt of your fire, and it's probably not going to be even a Victory II. I do have to say you have one way of being efficient with pop space and money, but for heaven's sake, take a Star Destroyer with you. Or, better still, build three or four of those "squadrons" (in other words keep the proportion, but add more ships).
-
I personally didn't start attacking til border defences were built up and I had some decent income. Then I could start building the big-uns. My strike groups are cantered around an SSD or Preator and the rest built up with ISD, Lancers and sometimes a Victory-II class, to fill it.
