I say EaW because of the space battles.

Yes.  If this was about land battles EAW loses to just about anything.

I'd have to say equal as they both have their charms and failings(Air combat in GB and ground combat in EaW)

Stock vs. Stock, I say neither.  Both too many issues with the gameplay engine.

I find that mods of each are much better than the originals

This is true with a lot of things actually

Do you have any GB mods that you would recommend?

Comparing these two is like asking someone if they want a pile of crap or a turd sandwich. Sure one of them might have a slice of bread or two, but in the end it's still shit.

That's a bit harsh don't you think?

Don't worry Xizor both me and my brother found it quite funny.

Though I find it to be quite true...
Only reason I even play EaW/FoC is because of this mod.

Yeah both games are kinda shit... the only thing that carries them is STAR WARS! and that's about it...
The games are really just bad and the mods were the only thing redeeming about them.

The ones I used to use were SW GB EU(haven't been able to find it again) and one that just added new units and tweaked air combat just a bit, I forget it's name. Both of these were up about 6 years ago so I don't know if they're still around.

agreed with the prevs. i wouldn't play EaW too much eiter if there weren't this mod...

I'd go with both, mostly because of recreating the storylines of at least three of the movies (Revenge of the Sith in the case of Galactic Battlegrounds through the Clone Campaigns expansion, because with the scenario editor, the storyline of ROTS can be easily done, even if its unmodded).

Will have to say, Galactic Battlegrounds was fun in the sense I can just mess around with the scenario maker and make some interesting scenarios. Like clone armies of Han Solo ahoy! XD

But really, EaW is fun with the space combat (land battles are sometimes meh without a mod at play) and GB just can't top in that category.

On sheer level of enjoyment? Galactic Battlegrounds wins for me, because base game EaW was passable at best. It was just potential.
Plus...Battlegrounds had Simon the Killer Ewok. That is just so much win there lol
Don't know what I'm talking about, press ENTER, when the chat box comes up type, "SimonSays"and get ready to meet the Ewok version of Terminator Rambo!

Simon the Killer Ewok

I never played Galactic Battlegrounds, but this has me intrigued to try it some day.

I absolutely love EaW over GB. GB has a certain charm, not to mention being built on the same engine as Age of Empires II, one of my favorite RTS games ever. The problem is...that it's built on the same engine as Age of Empires II. This leads to some degree of absurdity: Wookiee armies? (Where were those when the slavers came to town?) Gungan Jedi? Aquatic navies? To me, GB stretched the suspension of disbelief a bit too far. It still felt like a Star Wars game, but at times it felt like a Star Wars total conversion mod of Age of Kings, not its own game.

I agree but it was based on it so that was likely to come, but the problem I found with it was that faction differences really only came when you got to tech 4 before then almost techs and units where the same.

Well, at least they looked different. There is something about each side having its own designs for every unit (even those not normally available--the Federation has a repeater trooper model. Gotta account for those full-tech-tree games, now).

I never played Galactic Battlegrounds, but this has me intrigued to try it some day.
It was one of the codes to summon an uber joke units the designers hid in the code
Simon Says=Ewok with superblaster stick that can shoot down Aircraft, blow up ATATs in two shots and level a base nearly by himself...he CAN be killed though.
Imperial Entanglements=ISD(Stronger version of the Air Cruiser
That's No Moon=Death Star(Basically a floating A Bomb)
Skywalker=Mission Victory
Tarkin=Kill All Units
Force Ore, Food, Carbon, Nova=1,000 times that resource
Force Build=Instant build
Force Sight=Reveal All Map

That's the only codes I remember. One other reason I liked GB was that in every level and campaign they had an easter egg(Like on the corner of the tatooine map Padme, Anakin, R2 and C3PO with the Senatorial Yacht are there)

Also "scaryneighbor" = a boat capable of shooting down aircraft and bases or large group of forces.
"tantive iv" = air cruiser as the famous CR-90 corvette.
"the most powerful jedi" jedi/sith receive + 10,000 health + 30 damage and are extremely fast this affects hero jedi/sith as well.

Wish I'd known this one...I always found them very useless due to their short range and no Force powers

Their even better with the republic jedi masters with full upgrades so along with the bonus with the cheat they come with + 6 line of sight, stealth detector, cloaking, ability to turn aircraft, tanks and jedi to your side and if an enemy tries to take your master it kills itself preventing the enemy from taking your unit.

Also "Force explore" no more black areas you can see full map.
"Force sight" removes fog of war.

I would say: It depends on what you want.
If you want massive Space Battles, which i absoluty love.
Then you have to go with Empire at War.
If you want to build a Base, and have massive Ground-Battles then you go with Galactic Battlegrounds (which also has the nice side, that you have different eras there)
Because the Ground Battles in Empire at War, well they are ok, but rather limited to small forces.

So you won't be able to settle this argument, because it depends on what you prefer.

If only there was a way to combine them and SW BattleFront II all in one game...

Yeah that would be amazing and i'll say it is possible.
We have a Galactic Map in Battlefront II, we have the Option to lead the Battle yourself or do auto battle from Empire at war.
So it could be possible to add another mode.
But i think a game with all these features would eat a lot of Harddisk Space.
For now it would be nice to combine Galactic Battlegrounds and Empire at War.
But that's only dreaming for now....

If you think about it it's very similar to "Spore" (taking out the evolution of your species) it would be very similar to what we want.

I say equal. I loved GB cause you could mess around with the map editor and make a ton of units fight one another from different eras.

I also loved EaW cause of the space battles, the galactic interface and the mods you could include. Ground battles need to be improved.
