Seems like an odd tie name though, i mean the empire liked fearsome names, and then they came up with 'defender'

I like to think that it might indicate a shift in imperial philosophy.

I cant decide between Defender and Interceptor.

Its like the second one except it has missions when your a person. It also has multiplayer and co-op, in which you play the missions from the second one.

Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: sarcronis on August 25, 2007, 10:15:01 PM
And it is a waste to get a gamecube.  A wii only costs $250, so it is the cheapest next gen counsel.

Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on August 26, 2007, 08:47:29 AM
i always tough the tie defender was kind weird lookin i like the Chiss claw craft
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 26, 2007, 08:49:31 AM
chiss clawcraft is one of the best fighters.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on August 26, 2007, 08:50:19 AM
of course they can slaughter most fighters
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 26, 2007, 08:51:16 AM
especially with good pilot on control.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Raptor on August 26, 2007, 09:05:22 AM
was not the chiss clawcraft a tie hybrid?
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on August 26, 2007, 09:06:23 AM
note that tie hybrid its still a tie

Upista
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: GrndAdmrlPellaeon on August 26, 2007, 09:11:23 AM
I did not include the Clawcraft because it is not an Imperial produced fighter.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on August 26, 2007, 09:15:17 AM
still technicy a tie
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 26, 2007, 11:29:09 AM
it's EotH produced fighter.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 26, 2007, 12:01:39 PM
But technically a part of the tie series, its more of a relative
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 26, 2007, 12:02:32 PM
well it has only the TIE cockpit as a same. those wings are totally new design.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Raptor on August 29, 2007, 09:39:40 AM
If somethinf has a tie cockpit you automatically assume it is a new tie design.(or clawcraft) It is like the signature feature of a tie.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Slornie on August 29, 2007, 10:08:42 AM
So an "ugly" with a TIE cockpit attached to X-Wing S-Foils or a Y-Wing fuselage is a new TIE design?
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Marko Dash on August 29, 2007, 10:38:46 AM
I guess so, you drop a Chevy crate engine in a mustang and its still considered a Ford, so the same applies here.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Corey on August 29, 2007, 11:07:01 AM
I've always found that Ugly pretty odd. Doesn't eliminating the X-Wing cockpit and the TIE Wings leave it without any sort of power source? Thats pretty useless.

I like the Interceptors best.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Kratas on August 29, 2007, 11:44:45 AM
i think they keep the engines
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Corey on August 29, 2007, 11:48:38 AM
The TIE Fighter got power from solar panels, and the X-Wing power source was in the fuselage, both of which were taken out, and theres nowhere else on the design a power source could be kept.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 29, 2007, 11:50:17 AM
but aren't they built as tie solar panels attached to x-wing hull?
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Kratas on August 29, 2007, 11:50:40 AM
i dunno
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 30, 2007, 09:43:46 PM
Well, they obviously figured some way to make it work
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on August 31, 2007, 07:40:27 AM
I would never use Ugly as my fighter.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 31, 2007, 11:15:30 AM
I doubt anyone would pick them if they had the choice
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on August 31, 2007, 11:49:43 PM
actually whith the right skills you couldmake an ugly better than the original
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on September 01, 2007, 12:02:19 AM
An ugly cant be better than the origional, there is no origional
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Kratas on September 01, 2007, 05:08:33 PM
An original is a tie fighter and i think they are evenly matched except Y-TIE uglies have hyperdrive engines and turrets but are very unmaneuvable so its hyperdrive and ion cannon vs very good maneuverability
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: GrndAdmrlPellaeon on September 01, 2007, 09:18:37 PM
When did the ugly first appear?
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on September 01, 2007, 10:09:56 PM
in a book whith pirates
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on September 02, 2007, 03:31:33 AM
pirates can't afford to build or buy top quality fighters, like X-wing and Tie Defender. so they buy cheap and propably broken ships and rebuild them to work.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on September 03, 2007, 06:49:36 PM
and a good mechanic can rework it into a suppior ship
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on September 03, 2007, 07:02:09 PM
It would take more than good mechanic, more like an uber 1337 mechanic, to take parts of other fighters and put them together to make it better
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on September 04, 2007, 01:04:33 AM
yep. It is a hard job for two entirely different fighter designs.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Mandalore-the-Inquizitor on September 04, 2007, 11:53:14 PM
i dont htink it woul take that many its just the act of getting it right trial and error and CASH
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Marko Dash on September 05, 2007, 02:47:22 AM
the panels on the TIE don't generate its power, its not possible to get the kind of energy they need to preform as they do just from sunlight, and even if they did then they wouldn't be able to operate in deep space. the panels are radiators for the TIE's reactor, just as the S-foils are for the X-wing.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Slornie on September 05, 2007, 05:04:17 AM
The panels on the TIEs do generate power, I quote:
Quote
All TIE series starfighters had two or more ion engine outlets, linked to a solar ionization reactor and solar array wings.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on September 05, 2007, 08:41:33 AM
solar array wings idea is that they generate power and are lighter and cheaper than onboard generator.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on September 05, 2007, 06:53:04 PM
And makes it so that they tie engine has no moving parts
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on September 06, 2007, 01:03:29 AM
yes. lighter, cheaper, and weaker.
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Scarecrow63 on September 06, 2007, 03:23:22 PM
I wouldnt say weaker, the engine itself was perfectly fine, it was just the surrounding tie that was weak
Title: Re: Favorite Tie
Post by: Meyer on September 07, 2007, 01:11:11 AM
one good part isn't able to compensate dozens of bad parts.
