So you didn't vote it because it's ugly. and it had nothing to do with the fact that is was one the worse tanks in the war compared to the number built and popularity it got?

Shcwalbe in ME 262 Schwalbe means swallow.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 11, 2007, 05:47:19 PM
262 ain't a tank.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Raptor on August 11, 2007, 05:51:23 PM
Swallow is a bird and ME 262 is German, I was giving an example for German vehicles with animal names.

If it was a pure one on one battle, king tiger

if we are talking about them in WW2, id say the T-34
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 11, 2007, 06:18:06 PM
yep king tiger was a beast. None of them was during a battle. all that germans lost was due to maintenance problems and running out of fuel and that kind of stuff
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 11, 2007, 06:18:42 PM
And they had serious manufacturing issues
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 11, 2007, 06:33:59 PM
yes because allies bombed germanys factories.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 11, 2007, 06:39:59 PM
Thats not it, the factories in perfect condition weren't built to produce alot in a little amount of time
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 11, 2007, 06:41:13 PM
yes but mostly because allies bombed everything. railroads, factories everything.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: sarcronis on August 11, 2007, 07:05:37 PM
The bombings probably saved the allied armies.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 11, 2007, 07:51:45 PM

I would not use the word balanced, I would use all-around.

I have to disagree. Panther had the best balance between armor, gun and mobility. Hell it could destroy T-34 from an distance of 1km. And Tiger could do that from 1.5km
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 15, 2007, 02:00:45 PM
The reason T-34 was so good because it had okay armor and weapons, good speed, but most importantly very easy to make
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 15, 2007, 02:09:55 PM
so was Panther. problem in german tanks was the lack of fuel.
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Scarecrow63 on August 15, 2007, 03:35:03 PM
that was only a real problem in Africa and the late stages of the war
Title: Re: tanks in WWII
Post by: Meyer on August 16, 2007, 01:04:16 AM
yep. And Panther entered service in 1943. which is after Africa and is late war.
