I've been away for awhile, getting a new computer and all, but I've heard of this dreaded "freeze". All I want to know is what this freeze is and, if possible, why and when it happens because I never got one. My game would crash but it would never "freeze". The crashes were by unit and particle overload, that's all. So what is this freeze? And why does it happen and how can I prevent it?

It's also known as unit selection bug. Basically if the number of built and destroyed ships reaches a certain number you won't be able to select or command any of your units anymore.
This should usually only happen after 100+ weeks into a game.
The only way you can prevent it is to finish the game before it happens.

Basically that. It's a problem with the base game that will occur in vanilla or any other mod, except since we have more planets, more factions, etc it can happen earlier. Nothing we can do about it.

Every mission is a timed mission. When the time is up, the world ends. How exciting!

So no pressure right?

Hello all my first post on this forum and i have a suggestion.
So game freeze when number of destroyed and builded ship's reach X number. X number is saved in save game(it should at least ? ) . Couldn't anyone edit list of destroyed ships by editing save game ?Clean it up , so total number won't reach X number and game won't freeze. is that doable ?
p.s. sorry for my bad english.

From what Corey's told me, in theory it might be possible yes, but in reality there aren't any editors that would allow us to do this without mucking up our save files.

From what I know people have tried this before and it doesn't work. All that works is autoreolving and never going into tactical battles.
-
Wait if you avoid avoid tactical battle the freeze won't happen?
-
My understanding is that if you NEVER start a tactical battle, it won't happen.
-
Of course, it's then also no fun...
-
We'd have to rename the mod then.
Star Peace
Imperial Civil Negotiation

Technically Imperial Civil Autoresolve.

Technically Imperial Civil Autoresolve.
Sounds about as fun as a 1041 EZ

anybody has an idea of how much ships it takes? it takes into consideration all ships? even fighters?

An idea for battling the freeze:
NOTE: I haven't been scripting and modding in this game for about a year so I can't remember what is possible, etc.
Is there anyway to, through code, to copy out the current forces, money, etc of all players to a debug file? I know that in certain running scripts for the GC scenarios, I've seen code that will produce debug output of kills, score, etc.
Anyway, if this can be done, theoretically you could produce a scenario file that is a snapshot of where the current galactic situation is, and just simply start a new scenario starting off where the old game stopped.
You could just make it write out the file every 50 weeks or so, so you know you'll not reach the 'freeze'.
Example:
1. Start AoW, run 50 weeks
2. User Collects debug file, and copies it as a new scenario.
3. Start AoW#2 (the new scenario with the updated starting forces), run 50 weeks
4. Rinse and Repeat
Using this strategy, you could theoretically extend a GC scenario indefinitely.
Any thoughts on this from the mod team?

Not possible. People have tried a lot of stuff, some of it similar to that, and it doesn't work.

Petro wasn't careful in designing the base game

Which, to be honest, isn't in the least bit shocking.

Yeah, a crappy bit of programming on their part. I've hit this bug several times just because I like to CRUSH my enemies rather than simply win. Latest time was at the height of my power as the Pentastar Alignment, when I was beginning my galactic conquest in earnest.

Yes, the Freeze takes all the wind out of playing turtle. If you don't rush to the finish on larger maps you will lose the ability to play just as things get interesting. Then again, it does make things interesting when you know ahead of time that doom approaches.
