Title: Heroes in Ascendancy

I was wondering, how will heroes (such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Solo, Ackbar, etc.) be handled in Ascendancy? I have never played Sins of a Solar Empire, so I don't know if they have a system sort of like EAW's hero system. I know, if heroes are included, those like Ackbar or Thrawn would obviously be fleet commanders, but what about Jedi like Kyle Katarn and Corran Jorn, or others like Talon Karrde or Lando Calrissian? What role would they play in Ascendancy?

There aren't heroes in default Sins. There's some stuff we can do to implement them, but I'm not sure if we will.

Assuming we do, land based people including Jedi, some of whom you've mentioned, would not be included at all. We're not going to try to shoehorn in something that doesn't fit. There are some like Talon Karrde and Lando who could be worked in, even just through the tech development and economics and other such things if not in direct combat ships.


This is something we're going to address more completely in an update, however there's a victory condition called Flagship that the team virtually always uses when playing together. This mode will be maintained, with the flagship we're using being an important figure/ship from that faction.

 Was this ever resolved? I always enjoyed having heroes in ICW, it always made the GC scenarios more enjoyable for me and I did like the fact that once they were dead that was it, no respawning so I tended to try to look after them. I would be a shame not to have heroes in Ascendancy.

It's not something we've tried yet. I've been waiting to have the basic mod framework done to see how they'd function within it first. There's several differences from EaW that can make them either completely irrelevant or way too powerful that we have to explore first. Who would you guys actually like to see?

I would like to see some grand admirals as well as Zsinj and Kaine. as for the republic more prominent military leaders rather than movie or book style hero's,like Wedge or Ackbar

The heroes help set the scene for a lot of the GC's and it wouldn't be the same without them as the heroes for each faction really represent the individual factions. I obviously have no idea what work goes into creating a mod like Ascendancy, especially where the vanilla game doesn't use heroes to start with but with people like Thrawn, Parck, Ardus Kaine, Wedge, Daala, Isard etc, their ships are already going to be in the game so surely all they need is a little voice acting and an icon? I'm sorry if I'm completely wrong about this, I don't know the first thing about modding. (I also agree with Rovert10, Thrawn rocks!)

Have You considered using your Main flagship and upgrades for that Ship could be famous fighter squadrons like rogue or wraith squadrons? This would allow for some ?Heroes? but also giving some upgrades

I know that we always play with Flagship victory on. I know we've discussed Heroes via Flagships before, but I'm not sure how far we'll go with it.

I don't know much about how much can be modded, but seems to me it would be very difficult to mod in heroes.  Be neat if it could be done, as it would introduce some of the "uniqueness" to some otherwise "generic" units.

Technically you could argue Sins' regular capitals are heroes, at least once they level up, becoming supportive juggernauts and all. However, units with a cap of one existing at a given time, has been done already, in E4X and SoGE.

Agreed, Kaine at the very least.
