I am considering purchasing a new laptop or desktop, not really sure what to look for right now though.
I have been taking glances at ASUS and Alienware products but I am of course looking for some insight. ???

What's your price range? And would you prefer a laptop or a desktop?
-
I can spend up to $1,300 (USD) right now, and I'm thinking desktop as of right now.
-
To be more precise I'm considering this:
Alienware X51: Alienware X51
OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows

Alienware tends to be a bit of a ripoff. You could probably get a better laptop for that price, frankly. I've never been a computer person, really (I'm sure it'll surprise a few people), but if you're getting something for gaming I'd stick with a desktop and go through something like Newegg.com. I personally use an ASUS-N53S (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230143) laptop for everything and I've been pretty happy with it, though it's more mid range, however I paid significantly less than you would have; mine came out to around $1150 including tax, Canadian.
Definitely avoid MSI. They're cheap, and sometimes have some decent specs, but they're manufactured like shit.

Hmm alrighty! Thanks for the tip. Never thought to look at that site

I would just build your own. Like Corey said its mostly a ripoff.
-
Not sure how or I would! I know you can buy a shell with a 'motherboard' (I believe that's what its called) then just place everything in.
-
When your looking for a computer to buy on its company website there should be a build your own and some of them give you a choice on what you want to start off with and then you can add or remove stuff from there.

One of the best system guides if you're intending to build your own
