Title: Removal of CC7700?
Post by: yutpaeksi on December 13, 2011, 10:26:16 PM
Hi guys, I noticed that in the version tracker updates for v1.3, you listed the removal of the CC7700 frigates. Does that mean the NR will lose interdictor capability? I see that you're adding the Corusca Rainbow, the Dominator Interdictor, as a hero to the NR, but is that the only interdictor the NR will have? Also, in what era does Illior come into play?

The problem with the CC-7700 is it's exceedingly ugly and there's no way to make it not be ugly. The Corusca Rainbow will be their only default interdictor unless we get a better alternative, and it will be available from the start in all GCs because of this. There are, however, a few planets which when captured will provide the New Republic with Imperial interdictors.

While i certainly agree that the CC7700 is a terrible looking and very underpowered unit, it'd be tough for the NR to compete without a buildable interdictor. While the AI doesn't really do hit and run attacks, sometimes it's nice to trap smaller fleet elements or when the AI tries to coordinate attacks by sending in their land forces right after their fleet arrives.

You mention that capturing some planets will provide the NR with interdictors. Will you be providing captured Dominator SDs or Immobilizer frigates?

Corusca Rainbow, the Dominator Interdictor
Isn't Corusca Rainbow an Immobilizer 418 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Immobilizer_418_cruiser)?

Yeah that's my bad, it's an Immobilizer cruiser, which only seems to make things even tougher for the NR. While I realize this is more in keeping with the canon, as the NR/Rebels always had trouble getting their hands on interdictors, this could cause a lot of gameplay balance problems.

it will make the NR player have to think more strategically about using the interdictors since they will be so rare, as was canon, while the CC7700 is a small almost unarmed and cheap interdictor you could mass produce it saw limited use in the galactic civil war. The Immobilizer 418 cruisers on the other hand were much bigger players. Why not balance this lack of buildable interdictors for the NR with the ability to capture certain ships(like with the minor factions) for instance if you capture kuat while it's in IR hands you get a 418 interdictor, a VSDI, same with corellia, Thyferra could give an ISD, for Coruscant you could make it a Dominator and an ISD. That way the NR could build up some interdictors but only through capturing them, like they had to do canonically.

Ahem:

There are, however, a few planets which when captured will provide the New Republic with Imperial interdictors.
