Title: Suggested Mods
Post by: SCPX on March 05, 2007, 10:06:18 PM
Other than Thrawn's Revenge, which everyone will want, what mods do people suggest for Forces Of Corruption?
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: insanegolfer on March 05, 2007, 11:22:06 PM
z3r0x's mods are good, so either that or Space addon, because I never really liked the ground battles.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: SCPX on March 06, 2007, 03:36:57 PM
Why would you suggest those two?
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: insanegolfer on March 06, 2007, 05:11:31 PM
because those are the two that I play when I am playing FOC

id definitely recommend z3r0x's FoC mods, then there is also Phoenix Rising, LoW and IA2 (although z3r0x v4 looks like it might be a better choice for that era)

Title: Re: Suggested Mods

I never even got Pheonix Rising to work.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Slornie on May 22, 2007, 04:39:49 AM
hard luck, its quite interesting, especially with the removal of the selectable hardpoints (cant destroy hangers, shields and engines straight off), considerably more weapons (sheets of laser fire from star destroyers) and the unit research/upgrade (main disadvantages being no fighters launching from ships, shortage of space on the build tab, and some upgrades only affecting any new units built).

EDIT: another mod ive recently discovered is Uncharted Terratories (http://unchartedterratories.freeforums.org/portal.php) (formerly known as Thrawn's Expeditions) - which concerns the Imperial exploration of the Unknown Regions (with Thrawn of course), it seems like it will have some interesting features. (yes Arbiter i know that TR is similar, but every mod looks different, plays different and deserves to be recognised as different)

Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: SCPX on June 06, 2007, 02:54:42 PM
It depends on the Team. The problem with big mods is that it is such a change that to release it quickly, the mod needs a big team. But since everyone has their own opinion about how things are, you can get arguments or inconsistencies in the mods.
Such as, someone creating a mod with the Yuuzhan Vong. One person could feel the shields are not that powerful, so makes weak shields, while the person making the mesh and hardpoints decides the shields would protect the ship the most, so gives the vessel a low hp. In the end, you have a ship with low hp and weak shields, a doomed ship. That's why it takes so long to release these. They have to get all the glitches out...

Title: Re: Suggested Mods

I dont know of any, but you cant really remove only the corruption, since the ZC need it to get new  abilities, etc.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Raptor on July 17, 2007, 06:22:50 PM
You can remove corruption with Mon Mothma or Emperor.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Corey on July 17, 2007, 06:23:50 PM
I believe he means remove it from the game. And yes, you can remove it. I' removed it and coded empire-style tech levels for them when we converted em to eotH.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Meyer on July 18, 2007, 04:33:31 AM
do you mean that in R1 the EotH has taken ZCs place?
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Slornie on July 18, 2007, 06:38:33 AM
Sounds like it, it makes sense since the ZC is entirely made up by Petro.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Meyer on July 18, 2007, 07:34:24 AM
yep. in gaming magazine which I read there was a joke about it: they had to decide wheter they take a new criminal organization or a new alien race. Heads is criminals, tails is aliens. And it came heads.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Slornie on July 18, 2007, 09:40:27 AM
I dont see what was wrong with using Black Sun or Talon Karrde's organisation.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Meyer on July 18, 2007, 09:54:24 AM
I don't see why they didn't use some alien faction, like Killiks or Yuuzhan Vong.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: GrndAdmrlPellaeon on July 18, 2007, 11:45:46 AM
I would have preferred Talon Karrde over Tyber Zhan anyday and would still be better if they used any alien species preferably not a new one.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Meyer on July 18, 2007, 11:52:34 AM
I don't think Karrde would have been a good choiche because his organization was quite small before the death of Jabba. Maybe Hutts could have been a better choiche. I mean they had an empire already.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Slornie on July 18, 2007, 11:54:14 AM
But on the other hand, wasnt Tyber's organisation small as well ?

Confederary-Alliance war then. And lets put Chiss as third playable faction. that could have been good too.

z3r0x will shortly (we hope) be releasing a total CW conversion. Then he will be patching it a bit (if need be) then he will move onto a V5 which will focus on the Yuuzhan Vong. You could wait for that, and Imperial Assault's progress is so slow that no-one really gives about it anymore. Unless they give us a release soon (it has been over a year and a half since they formed up) I am just going to give up on it. TR and RAW are the only major CW modifications; the others are way too small, but Return of the Clones is pretty good, and I would recomend that if you want to satisfy your CW era lusts. Darth Windu did a very good job on that mod; it's very good quality.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: vadereclipse on March 24, 2008, 06:10:24 AM
due to time constraints (i.e. we're all getting older and the eaw community is dying) z may not make a v5. he's talked about possible making a minimod for the vong, which is v.3.5 plus the vong replacing the ZC.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods

warlords has saturated the community enough. if IA2 gave free-release models...
Title: Re: Suggested Mods

Then the community'd have almost exactly the same models for space.
Some exceptions would be Payne's low poly models and things like the Theta and Landers

Got a question. I instal z3r0x 3.5 mod and i somewhere read that Yuzhan Vongs are playable. I can also se a black line in when choosing a faction to playt but still dunno how to choose them...

Second you were speaking about some shitty translastion for AotR is it this (http://empireatwar.filefront.com/file/Awakening_of_the_Rebellion_English_Translation;85839)?

Title: Re: Suggested Mods
Post by: Corey on June 07, 2008, 12:37:42 AM
I think at this point we're probably the only mod with an animator on the team, so anybody else doing a mod with new infantry or walkers is unlikely, making Vong unlikely as well. There are several other challenges associated with the Vong, dovin basals for instance. They used to be part of the mod (we have several models and skins done, including the Vong themselves), and depending on how we feel when we accomplish what we want, we may throw the Vong back on the menu as well....

Lol.  Dont let Enceladus (or probably any other staff member/modder) read that!  There appears to be considerable suspicion that Alenz' mod may contain "stolen" files (taken from other mods without permission).

I was part of the dev team when it ended, and a regular (as in frequent, not plain) tester since the first SSD mod by LoW, so Fosh basically gave me everything LoW had... Title: Re: Suggested Mods

Very few mods for EaW have actually taken the trouble to do their own models, which cuts down half of them, they're very hard, which cuts down another quarter, the people who did have the ability chose to do something else, which cuts down another eighth, those that have tried have failed, which cuts out Legacy of War and Dark Empire, and they require a lot of animations which cut it down to Z3r0x, who's since lost his animator temporarily and may do it, IA2, who've no apparent interest in the Vong and us, who are considering doing it.

just get Z's mod, put vong models in XML folder, make a simple space map on the map editor, and thhe vong units should be somewhere. then, place them on the map, set affiliation to preferred faction and you can use them.
or if you're devoted enough, you could try to learn some coding and reskinning and make a personal mdod out of it. i mean, you've got the coral skippers, umfulluh, matalok, miid roiik and the koros stronha. no worldships, but mostly complete, some reskinning of infantry, and you could kind of piece one together. not as good as a model, and a little shoddy, but better than nothing.

that could work if I knew how to use the map editor. but I think I won't test because I don't want start fighting against problems that sometimes occur when I do something, for example try to install mods.
Title: Re: Suggested Mods

don't worry. space maps take 5 minutes. For example, you couldd remake Ebaq 9, i guess.
on the left of the screen is a column showing editing info. one of them is a props bar. select it. find a prop you need. i.e. asteroid. press shift, ansd it appears on screen. left click and it is placed. next, search through fields for vong units you put in the XMLs. when you find them, place them.
there should be a "affiliation" button. choose the desired faction.
add all units you want.
however, AI is sometimes an issue.
i you really don't want to do it yourself, perhaps you could ask a mapper such as Yoden. he's done some Z3r0x mod maps, and it's likely he'll aagree. just E-mail him from Eawfiles. he released a mappack recently, so he won't be hard to find.

Meyer, i rwequested the battle of Ebaq 9 for you :) http://empireatwar.filefront.com/file/yoden_all_80_map_for_eaw;91021x#1568106
