I was very against them, but admit I've enjoyed them mostly.  The first one was a bit too much stereotypical Abrams (LENS FLARE* LENS FLARE* LENS FLARE*!!), but after that I've thought they were good movies that manage to maintain the spirit of Star Trek while giving the writers the freedom to originate without having to justify it, nor without invalidating that which had come before.

As a long time Trekkie I can't stand the reboot of the new show. The reboot atleast has good actors in it and seems less like Left Wing propaganda though. Here's hoping they follow through with a new show with Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard- TNG), though I'm sure SJWs will find a way to ruin that too. Like they've done with some many things lately.

Discovery started in a strange way... and I know that as of about Ep 5 or 6, the show was taken over by people with a better understanding of classic trek, and have tried taking it in more interesting directions.
Personally, I REALLY don't like the idea of the "Spore Drive", which allows for instantaneous jumps between points in space, and between universes as well!!
The change in Klingons originally had really pissed me off! But, I started to think about when TNG was being created, that there were protests and people RAGING over the changes being made to the series.
Now-a-days, we think of TNG as defacto CLASSIC TREK, so... who knows what the future holds.

Oh... and the ACTUAL threads question, JJ's reboot..
I thought it was pretty good... but what bothered me so much about it, was that JJ seemed to be so determined to make Star Trek MUCH MORE like Star Wars. Now... I loves me some Star Wars. I do. But I love Star Trek a little bit more.. and seeing him change warp drive to behave much much more like SW hyperspace travel. The sounds, the mid-ftl visual effects, the weapons..
Hell... he BASICALLY made the first reboot Star Trek movie an exact copy of "Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back"..
It doesn't take a degree in cinematography to see that it was damn near a scene for scene rehashing of SW:ESB.

At the least, it did seem to follow (to some degree) the moral and philosophical ideals and concepts that is at the core of Star Trek itself.
Quite frankly... I think I'd be interested in seeing this "Reboot/Alternate Timeline" universe venture into the TNG era!

I can't even say in words how much I love this show. With all the cliff hangers and twists to keep it interesting, it makes me want to never stop watching

wait. this is about the movies? oh. well in that case i thought the movies were kinda eh. it took away from the original star trek that i know and love.

Well Discovery is the new series set in the Prime canon universe. Way better than the Abrams Star Trek for sure. Now I liked them (except Into Darkness), but they weren't Star Trek. They were generic action thriller with a Star Trek skin thrown on.

I agree with you, what Abrams is doing is not Star Trek. I'm not too crazy about Discovery either though, but I'll hang on with it. Hopefully it develops nicely.

I don't really like them. Not because they're far different from the previous movies but because I find the action too boring, at least in Discovery. The action of Into Darkness I like a lot more. Discovery was a solidly average movie, lot of potential, not the best execution as the plot felt a bit thin in the end. Reasoning for why pepple are shooting at each other is really the key to making an action movie I like. This was something Into Darkness accomplished, in Discovery the motivations were less impactful and didn't live up to the director's commentary.

To me, it's mostly like the new SW movies, they have some sort of other feel to it. Doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy or even hate them, they just feel a bit off in comparison to the older ones since they kinda create another sort of atmosphere and focus more on other aspects of the respective universes, meaning that especially the ST reboots feel a lot more action-packed and non-'philosophical' than the older ones - the SW sequels lack a bit of that fairy tale thing the original trilogy had a ton of, which even the prequel trilogy managed to capture (despite the horrible dialogue :x). As I said, don't get me wrong, they ain't bad movies, at all IMO. Or maybe it's just due to the directors changing, dunno. The first time I saw either of them, I had to get accustomed to them, but after that, and seen as a stand-alone thing, I quite enjoyed them all. Definitely not as bad as other reboots we had to endure due to Hollywood lacking any imagination ;> - and way better than the abysmal trainwreck with spock's brother searching for god. That was awful.

I really enjoyed all three and am still hoping for a fourth.  IMO they're better than at least half of the previous 10 movies! :)

I have conflictong feelings on it despite not being into Star Trek.

The way the plots are written are nice but the execution tends to fall flat in some cases for me. Like all of Discovery tried to be some "deep" deconstruction of Star Fleet and what we got was a generic action movie. Which was a shame.
