I seem to recall they mentioned they went with the Praetor at least for the first release because they already had everything for it from ICW.

More or less. The Allegiance was cut a year and a half ago in favour of the Praetor, since originally we were going to use both for different things, and then switch them later but decided it was better off this way. May eventually still do the Allegiance, but probably not.

Anyway... about capital ships cost, not in credit/metal/tibana gas, but in command slots and logistics slots
I mean a Praetor, for example, should use at least 3 command slots, or w/ no command research you would get the same of 3 ISD1.

Capital ships can only take one capital ship crew in Sins. There's no way to make it otherwise. The Praetor does, however, take 3 times as much of your fleet supply as the ISDI, and now that we're focusing more on balance instead of system functionality in 0.95+, it also as resource costs around 3x as high as the ISDI. So yes, technically in one dimension (capital ship crew) it's more efficient than building other stuff, it's not more efficient in several others. Also, if you built 50 Praetors, that's over 1000 fleet slots filled up. Damage wise it doesn't put out quite as much as 3 ISDIs, nor can it outdamage an equal fleet supply cost of Nebulas, for example. The Praetor's primary role is a tank, much like the MC90. It also takes a while to build. If you want to talk about slot efficiency, I personally feel like the World Devastator is the best choice, however it has the drawback of needing to be stacked up and higher level.

I'd actually disagree.  They still only had 1 command crew.  Yes, they had far more normal crew, but the same general size command crew, so it wouldn't actually be logical to cost more command just because they're larger and more powerful.  They DO cost more fleet, which totally makes sense.

Actual crew size can't really have any influence on balancing decisions, because it's almost impossible to offset it or realistically reflect crew sizes/recruitment/populations in a game like this.

P.S. one good cruiser for the NR is the Dauntless!

The Dauntless has been tossed around as a potential 5th cruiser if the Proficient isn't enough, however it's a super old design and gigantic. If they *really* need it, we'd be more likely to give the slot to the Majestic.

First of All, what happens to the Allegiance SD? it was replaced by the Praetor?

I may be wrong again, but I swear remembering Corey say they didn't want to use the Dauntless because there is no verified Canon image, specs (other than being ~1/2 the size of the Viscount), and they didn't want MORE mon cal ships than they already have.

The Victory Class could be an Long Range Frigate, because of its missiles
(the MC30 could too)
