And yes, Imperials who are good people yet aren't gonna take this BS will make this interesting.
But at the moment, quite black and white. Sorta like the early seasons of Clone Wars....Must every Separatist be something wrong? At least later on it showed the Republic has its dark moments.

« on: October 10, 2014, 10:58:40 AM »Well this is a backwater world, the troops assigned here would have gotten a bit indolent over time garrisoning there with little opposition, just boring daily routine (as a soldier myself I can personally attest to that effect over time) but the show takes it rather far. They are incredibly bad, like drunken Italian conscript in WWII bad...

The officers are pretty horrible people, and while yeah in the Star Wars universe you do get the freaks who enjoy killing species, not everybody is like them.
There is killing so that's something I didn't really expect. Though the killing really turns into the "You don't care" because no soldier has a face, personality, they are pretty much dummies getting shot. I really think the show needs to go into more of a grey, like a bell curve. Yeah they will encounter really bad people for the empire, but like more moderate. Less Nazi types.
You see the "Join the Imperial navy" painting up on one of the scenes. People that join volunteer, are they really going to go shoot up a bunch of houses just cause? Oh shoot that little kid! OK! Let's do it! The main characters have a lot of personality but really the story is too black and white.
They keep falling into the trap tons of movies and shows make to advance plots. The bad guys are idiots. The plot relies on the bad guys being idiots. Yeah... no.
Somebody has already said the ISD no tractor beam, the ship docking on the ISD without it's knowledge.
I would like to see more of a professional military the imperials having. I read a rationalizing from somebody that did the films for the lack of storm trooper accuracy, saying they were taken by surprise and that is why they did not really perform all that well. Then also the Emperor did not really want them to kill Luke. Bring a little professionalism because you get 3 people going up against a squad of storm troopers and there is no danger. The jedi guy stood up and walked forward and nothing happened to him. I hope they bring a little more believability to it, a more believable story is always better.

« on: October 08, 2014, 01:37:18 PM »Yeah, the show will help quite a lot to get my interest should the heroes do get wrecked, as seeing them making the Imps as chumps in a fight all the time...Will be quite annoying. Bonus points if they learn something. (unlike early Ahsoka Tano, who is someone I would never work under in a war despite her intentions)

Really, my only major gripe with it was how easily the main characters kept defeating the Imperials, they attack the same Star Destroyer like three times, and each time they escape despite odds that should really be overwhelming. By the end of the episode this sort of left me with no real sense of tension left at all, since it didn't really feel like there was any chance of anything majorly bad happening. I have a feeling that isn't going to last long based on the ending, though. And goodness knows Vader's bound to make an appearance at some point.
I'm one of those people regarding the CW. The 5th season especially ended incredibly well, and season 6 has a lot of strong moments too, as well as a nice EU nod by having an illusion of Darth Bane show up. The show overall also does a far better job than the PT of showing Anakin's growing disillusionment with the Jedi Council's actions.
I agree on the Star Destroyer criticism, but considering that it's far more clearly a kid's show than even CW was, some bits like that are to be expected. I mean, in the first few minutes you get a "Oh, you caught me. Whoops, here, catch this explosive!"

« on: October 05, 2014, 05:04:52 AM »Enjoyed it a good deal more than I was expecting to... the trailers had left me with very low expectations, but I found myself pleasantly surprised. It wasn't great, but it had a solid feel to it and the characters have potential.

« on: October 05, 2014, 04:37:21 AM »I watched it yesterday. For a cartoon it ain't bad. They're clearly going for an Original Trilogy vibe, also felt like Firefly a little bit. Liking the humor. Curious about the direction they take it. All in all, not complaining but they have a long way to go.
