Indeed, flesh out characters,  make them THINK

Yeah, it would be a pretty neat sight to see moments where the Heroes...Do something they realize isn't exactly heroic. I mean...It has to happen eventually.

And yes, Imperials who are good people yet aren't gonna take this BS will make this interesting.

But at the moment, quite black and white. Sorta like the early seasons of Clone Wars....Must every Separatist be something wrong? At least later on it showed the Republic has its dark moments.

Well this is a backwater world, the troops assigned here would have gotten a bit indolent over time garrisoning there with little opposition,  just boring daily routine (as a soldier myself I can personally attest to that effect over time) but the show takes it rather far. They are incredibly bad, like drunken Italian conscript in WWII bad...

So the bad guys are really portrayed as Nazi's. The storm troopers are trigger happy soldiers happy to glass civilians. The officers are pretty horrible people, and while yeah in the Star Wars universe you do get the freaks who enjoy killing species, not everybody is like them.

There is killing so that's something I didn't really expect. Though the killing really turns into the "You don't care" because no soldier has a face, personality, they are pretty much dummies getting shot. I really think the show needs to go into more of a grey, like a bell curve. Yeah they will encounter really bad people for the empire, but like more moderate. Less Nazi types.

You see the "Join the Imperial navy" painting up on one of the scenes. People that join volunteer, are they really going to go shoot up a bunch of houses just cause? Oh shoot that little kid! OK! Let's do it! The main characters have a lot of personality but really the story is too black and white.

They keep falling into the trap tons of movies and shows make to advance plots. The bad guys are idiots. The plot relies on the bad guys being idiots. Yeah... no.

Somebody has already said the ISD no tractor beam, the ship docking on the ISD without it's knowledge.

I would like to see more of a professional military the imperials having. I read a rationalizing from somebody that did the films for the lack of storm trooper accuracy, saying they were taken by surprise and that is why they did not really perform all that well. Then also the Emperor did not really want them to kill Luke. Bring a little professionalism because you get 3 people going up against a squad of storm troopers and there is no danger. The jedi guy stood up and walked forward and nothing happened to him. I hope they bring a little more believability to it, a more believable story is always better.

Yeah, the show will help quite a lot to get my interest should the heroes do get wrecked, as seeing them making the Imps as chumps in a fight all the time...Will be quite annoying. Bonus points if they learn something. (unlike early Ahsoka Tano, who is someone I would never work under in a war despite her intentions)

Hell, if it does reach a dark point, an episode of a random one-shot character and his/her merry band of own rebels getting destroyed would be neat if used sparingly. Much like the Clone Wars using mook Jedi getting slaughtered. I know its dark but the Empire...Well, it has to show a good amount of competence and having them being played for fools would make that lacking.

I may give it a mild look if it puts in more of the EU i love. The ISB and Inquisitorious were steps in the right direction

Honestly, a lot of the cartoon stuff just reinforces my opinion that Avatar TLA/Korra does a much better job at creating and exploring a similar kind of universe.

So having now watched it online, I actually quite enjoyed it!  I'm gonna have to watch again to try and pick up on those nods to the EU that Senza refers to, but it wasn't anywhere near as awful as I thought it might be.

-How did the Ghost even get into the ISD's hanger
First or second time? First time they were connected to the trap slave transport which was tractored, and I assume the second the Imperial boss guy let them in as part of his plan to catch them when they rescued Ezra.

-How come they didn't attempt to tractor beam the Ghost
Didn't the Mando helmet girl and Chopper blow up the tractor control room after their first excursion onboard?  You know, an ISD only has one tractor control in the same was as the Death Star only had one. :P

-Ezra knowing Jabba the Hutt
Why are you surprised that he'd heard of supposedly one of the biggest drug lords in the galaxy?

From what I understand, most fans agree that Clone Wars got a lot better and more mature as the show progressed, dunno for sure myself as I haven't seen much of it. Anyway, the first episode featured an appearance by the ISB and Imperial inquisition (though the latter was at the very end as a teaser), as well as lots of other EU material, so that was pretty cool.

Really, my only major gripe with it was how easily the main characters kept defeating the Imperials, they attack the same Star Destroyer like three times, and each time they escape despite odds that should really be overwhelming. By the end of the episode this sort of left me with no real sense of tension left at all, since it didn't really feel like there was any chance of anything majorly bad happening. I have a feeling that isn't going to last long based on the ending, though. And goodness knows Vader's bound to make an appearance at some point.

I'm one of those people regarding the CW.  The 5th season especially ended incredibly well, and season 6 has a lot of strong moments too, as well as a nice EU nod by having an illusion of Darth Bane show up.  The show overall also does a far better job than the PT of showing Anakin's growing disillusionment with the Jedi Council's actions.

I agree on the Star Destroyer criticism, but considering that it's far more clearly a kid's show than even CW was, some bits like that are to be expected.  I mean, in the first few minutes you get a "Oh, you caught me.  Whoops, here, catch this explosive!"

I like the fact of creating a new generation of Star Wars fans but we can still keep target age range at the OT level at least, even though its a cartoon. At the current state it doesn't feel like the plots very thought out, and was a bit all over the place.

Major gripes for me

-How did the Ghost even get into the ISD's hanger

-How come they didn't attempt to tractor beam the Ghost

-Ezra out smarting the stormtroopers in the detention cell.

Minor gripes

-Ezra knowing Jabba the Hutt

-Tarkintown (Why....)

-Kallus wearing different armor (Sorry I love the Veers armor)

-Those new AT-DP drivers

Bonus

-Dave Filoni now knows what the ISB is.

Oh, did that start already?  /Makes note to go watch it at some point.  The trailers left me somewhat unsure about it (alongside all the stuff about EU/canon), and not having watched beyond about season two of The Clone Wars I've still got that terrible Jabba's baby plot stuck in the back of my mind.

Enjoyed it a good deal more than I was expecting to... the trailers had left me with very low expectations, but I found myself pleasantly surprised.  It wasn't great, but it had a solid feel to it and the characters have potential.

I watched it yesterday. For a cartoon it ain't bad. They're clearly going for an Original Trilogy vibe, also felt like Firefly a little bit. Liking the humor. Curious about the direction they take it. All in all, not complaining but they have a long way to go.

I would be very surprised if they threw out all the EU permanently.  Its just too popular and the potential for stories and cameos is too great.
