Also, disclaimer: I have a coworker who is obsessed with Armada, also by FFG, so I have to hear him talk about it ALL the time, which has given me a bit of a bias against anything related to it.  Only upshot is that I was able to use it to introduce him to Ascendancy. ;)

If you're looking for that then the Enforcer is the perfect ship. The Raider is a slick design, and it doesn't look like a grey turd like the IPV does. However, if we are looking for a 100% EU never-touched-by-Disney design then the Vigil is an amazing looking ship and one I would love to see in the mod.

Hm... I've always viewed the tabletop games as something separate, because they don't have any narrative to them, but it seems that just about anything not Disney-verse yet still sanctioned by Lucasarts counts as Legends.

I still say "meh."  Personally, I don't care to count it - it reeks of being made just so they could put out a cooler-looking model than the Lancer.  They say the Lancer was too long, to which my response is "and the rest of your crap is to scale?"

It's a Legends design because the only source it has appeared in thus-far has been Fantasy Flight's X-Wing miniatures games which at best appear to be canon agnostic (they include elements from both Legends canon which have otherwise not been elevated to Disney canon - like the E-Wnig - and new Disney canon elements - namely the Force Awakens Core Set).  Since those games aren't included in Disney canon (in the same way as BioWare's The Old Republic isn't) new material created within the game aren't truly canon until they are referenced in another Disney canon source.

The reference to existing Legends material in the press release doesn't preclude the Raider also being Legends either, it's really just another example of where a content creator can't find something they like in existing material and are permitted to create something new: like when Petroglyph created the Tartan Cruiser for EAW because they didn't like the Carack and Lancer.

How is the Raider a Legends design?

"The Raider-class corvette was created by Fantasy Flight Games as a additional component of their X-Wing Miniatures Game. The ship was first announced on the company's website on December 19, 2014, in a news piece detailing a then-upcoming expansion pack to the base game. Intending to create a similar starship to the Rebellion's Corellian corvette, which acts in-game in an anti-starfighter role, the game's development team, including Andrew Navaro, Frank Brooks, and Steve Kimball, first looked to existing material in the Star Wars Legends continuity. The Imperial Lancer-class frigate was considered for the role, but the ship's 250 meter length was considered too unwieldy for game play. Failing to find a suitable candidate, the development team worked with Lucasfilm Ltd. to create a new ship, which would eventually become the Raider-class corvette."

The IPV fits better for the Pentastar Alignment to me. It seems like an older design that can still reasonably effective, is probably still around in large numbers, and fielded at a low cost. That sounds like something the PA would go for, and it's also a Sienar design.

The Raider looks interesting, especially given that it sacrifices some laser weaponry to mount turbolasers and ion cannons. That could make for a corvette and Sacheen  killer that I wouldn't mind seeing in the mod somewhere.

See, in an ideal world I would totally go for replacing the IPV with the Raider.  It's a much better fit for the role we need in ICW (anti-fighter), has (imo) a better design and also doesn't have any obviously illogical weaknesses (e.g. the IPV canonically has no hyperdrive).  It's also actually a Legends design rather than part of the new Disney canon (despite being released by Fantasy Flight after the canon reset).

Yeah I agree with you. I will always stay EU over Mouse every time. The IPV is irredeemably ugly though. I like the flying electric shaver more than that ugly thing.

Yes, actually the enforcer in quantity is a MARVELOUS patrol ship.  4 of them can hold off most individual capital ships (if you also have Hypervelocity Gun researched) without further assistance, even carriers like the Endurance (although the K-Wings will do a lot of damage).

Not a fan of this idea.  FFG is welcome to make up whatever ships it wants to for its tabletop games, but I personally prefer this mod sticking to ships that were actually in the EU (except when needed, such as with the Hand forces).  The IPV combined with TIE Hunters give the PA plenty of anti-fighter potency.

In ICW, it seems like the PA lacks any real anti-fighter ship besides the TIE Hunters and IPVs. So I suggest that the Raider Class Corvette can be added. It served as an anti-fighter ship and was on par with the C90 Corvette. They were mostly employed in the Outer Rim for hit-and-run tactics, and so far I have only seen one other mod add these. Perhaps they could be added to Ascendency as well but it would seem that the PA already has plenty of ships that already fill the Raider's role, so maybe the IR could get them?
