it could be that when the dreadnaughts were first made, ion cannons weren't either as effective or as available, so when Garm got his he decided it was something they needed

I think that standard Dreadnaughts didnt have ion cannons, and either Dark Force was modified to include them along with the other special features, or that Garm Bel Iblis had his retrofitted when he captured them.

In Dark Force Rising there are ion cannons in Dreadnaughts that attack Peregrine. But Wookiepedia doesn't give them ion cannons and neither do TR mod. So is there ion cannons in Dreadnaughts or not? What do you think?
