Seems like the EoTH had the same philosophy with no mega-weapons, but they still have large units. To my knowledge, there isn't any mods that add the X-1s, and TR is set in the timeline to have them. NR didn't have any real dedicated capital ships but then developed them in o counter IR. Same could apply to this.

It's a possibility, though with the Hand they kind of could create pretty much at will as virtually nothing of ship designs was known from the Hand except that they used Chiss and Imp fused designs.
With the X1 it could be used in era 3 for the NR as the IR does have a very sizable advantage in that era, with Sovereigns, the Eclipse, multiple heavy cap ship heroes, dark siders etc.

It's a thought, but kind of goes against the NR military philosophy of not building overly heavy craft on land when medium tanks and rocket artillery backed by v wings fits their bill better.
It's still a possibility though.

I know the IR currently is unbalanced with all the heavy units they have, so maybe make the Rebels have them only. The transport that the rebels stole was the only Imperial bound shipment of X-1s to my knowledge, so it would make sense for the IR not to have any.

The X-1 could add a hard counter for the NR against the IR ATAT and that XR-85 capable of one shooting everything. Too many times playing the IR I have steamrolled the galaxy with the XR-85 death squadron. It gives the NR a real heavy tank to meet the IR with on the battlefield, with its only weakness being things like concussion missiles and proton torpedoes. I liked the Katana Fleet mission with the battle occurring as your are trying to capture as many as possible. Felt like because the Dark Force Rising comic fit into the GC story, it was only right to have a mission where Thrawn was capturing them. Same with the X-1, its a big part of the Dark Empire story with the assult on Byss. Mabye this could be the start of a Dark Empire CG, but I understand that would be very difficult. Decide on if you would like to do a whole GC of Dark Empire, but I think that the X-1 would be a good addition due to there not being anything like it in the game currently. And maybe the PA could get this with a research on Rothana and Kuat: http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/All_Terrain_Siege_Platform

The problem here is it would require story scripting as well as the base line of what does the SD 10 actually add to gameplay that makes it worth modelling and animating? Same principal applies to the X-1

I second this!! the X-1 Viper was beast. Also they could add the SD-10 droid as well which would be buildable by whoever controls Balmorra.

After seeing Dark Empire, I thought it would be really nice to get the X-1 Viper droids. They would probably be available to the IR and NR for the Dark Empire Era. They could be implemented with a mission. IR would get them by battling on Balmorra, in which they fight against one. You either try to stay alive until Sedriss makes the deal with them, or you kill the X-1. Either way, you get access to build them on Balmorra, and maybe get a few as part of the shipment from the comic. The NR can secure these by intercepting at a neutral location by either A) intercepting them with a naval force, or B) have commandos intercept and get with the shipment and start a battle on Byss. If they win the battle on Byss, Balmorra allies with the NR and they give control of the planet as well as access to build more on Balmorra. They could stay specific to the GC as they would be OP. For abilities, give them the shield, and make the molecular shielding an ability that increases the damage based on how much damage it is taking. The pincer can also be an ability to attack gunships.
