Ion Cannon unfortunately is not available when you attack an enemy planet where the SSD is in orbit ^^

Which is why you don't do that unless you're ready to rumble. ;)

Thats why you must lure said ship friend. Put a weak fleet over the planet you wish to lure said SSD to, then lose that battle, and have your main attack fleet attack said SSD over your planet.

The only reliable ways for the NR to take down an SSD in era 1 are to lure it over an ion cannon, to use a fighter swarm (by which I mean dozens of squads), or by accepting heavy losses and slugging it out with MC80bs and Dreadnaughts (I tend to mix the last two - use a fighter swarm to knock the shields out, then hyper in cap ships behind the SSD as fighter losses mount).  If the SSD has a significant support fleet, then ONLY try to take it out with an ion cannon on the ground - leave it alone for now else.  Your Interdictor is Captain Iillor (sp?), a hero unit, so be very careful with her - you can't replace her if she dies.

Just understand that no matter how you approach this, you are almost certain to take some losses in the process - and that's okay.  Depriving the IR or PA of a hero SSD is worth losing several generic MC80Bs over, assuming that doing so wouldn't cripple your fleet.  If it would, then just avoid the SSD until you are ready for it.

Okay, just after writing my question, I tried again and managed to take out Kaine by jumping in with Han Solo alone and waiting for the SSD to turn, then I jumped the fleet into its back.

The New Republic in Era 1 has an Interdictor?

Another thing: Where can I see the goals of the era? When I click on the mission goals, I only see "Planetary Information"

Only Interdictor the NR has is that one hero from Rogue Squadron, the girl. She's pretty easy to kill so if you use her, best keep her waaaay back in the fleet.

There aren't missions.

Best case scenario: Build an ion cannon and then let the SSD come to you.

If you have to attack it, sneak several corvettes and frigates to its aft sector to take care of any spawned fighters and also deal some extra damage. Sacrifice an MC80b or two to soak up the damage. Swarm it with bombers. Try to have your Interdictor ready in the reinforcements so you can jump it in once the SSD is damaged enough to attempt retreating.

Hello,

Today I installed this mod (after finally managing to play through AotR) and chose The Stars Align - New Republic Side, Captain difficulty.

Is there a strategy for beating a Super Star Destroyer in the beginning of the game? Both Ysanne Isard and Argus Kaine are sitting in orbits around planets I have to go through and I neither have the points nor credits to build a massive fleet. So far, I tried to attack them with Ackbar, 3 MC80b and 2 MC80 and I get clobbered every time. Swarming with fighers also doesn't work since the proton torpedoes don't pierce shields (like they did in AotR) and the SSD doesn't even have a shield or engine or fighter bay hardpoint.

Any help is appreciated ^^
