Well one can't have everything.

Neat, never knew you could.  Yeah, agreed though, that would kinda suck since there's not enough build bar space as is.

1.  Would just increase the cost of all ships.  No real purpose if you ask me.
2.  I rarely have pop cap issues, so don't see the point.
3.  Once you've paid to build a unit, it doesn't continue to eat credits, there is no "maintenance" fee associated with them.
4.  I don't think it's possible to upgrade individual ships because of the limitations of the game engine.  It would be cool though, I agree.
5.  Could be neat if it's possible.

It's possible to  "upgrade" ships by making a buildable that consumes the original ship and builds a new version, (Alliance mod does this, one of the few things I really liked about it) but I don't know if this would be practical for small upgrades, since you'd need many different buildables for every ship, which would take up a lot of build bar space.

Was what made the old Star Wars Rebellion fun considering it's HORRENDOUS graphics and glitchy play.  Really had to balance out.  You could sometimes have enough credits to build something, but not enough daily income to keep some of the high maintenance ships around.  One of the reasons the Strike Cruiser has such a large place in my heart.  Because it had such minute maintenance costs, I used it as the backbone of my fleets for quite some time.

Actually the thought of a 'maintenance fee for units sounds intriguing.

So I once wanted to create a mod myself.  One of the main additions to my mod was revamping the way battles were played.  My ideas were the following:

1.  Ships have their own garrisons, so you cold use them in invasions.

2.  These troops wouldn't count against the pop. cap unless they are garrisonned on a planet after battle.

3.  Troops on planets basically become more for defense, and thus reduces the credits you spend on land forces

4.  Ships can repair, so lost troops, or garrisonned troops can be regained, or maybe to uprade ships with more lasers, fighters, etc.

5.  Ships can use garrisons to raid space stations or other ships.  While it leaves your ship vulnerable, you have the chance to take over another ship.  I do not know how who wins would be determined, maybe by the amount of forces you deploy and testing in a batle who would win.

Thanks for looking, and what do you think?? Good idea, good idea but it won't work, it's idiotic, what do you think?  Feel free to modify this or suggest other additons.
