niles declaan is a new one to me (another dark jedi?) and yeah i guess your right he never did sleep and he had many things going at one time

Declaan was an imperial officer promoted to Grand Admiral because he had force sensitivity and specialized in Battle meditation, he wasn't really a full dark jedi, but a product of the prophets of the dark side. He was utterly loyal to Palps and when he felt him die by Vader's hand instead of leaving the station or continuing his meditation he rushed to the Throne room on the Death Star II and arrived just as it exploded killing him instantly.

He had Grand Admiral Niles Declaan assisting him with the Battle Meditation. As to the rest Palps was so powerful in the force he never needed sleep, he knew essence transfer and his sport was many schemes at once.

I've never liked ROTJ for the fact that, diregarding the destruction of the DSII and the Executor, you still had hundreds of TIE fighters and 30+ ISDs. They should have been more than enough to destroy the rebel fleet. But Lucas gave the rebels plot armor, so what can you do about? I like Timothy Zahn's reasoning for how the rebels were victorious, explaining about the Emperor's battle meditation; gave you a plausible answer without embarrassing the Imperial Fleet too much...

Indeed. On normal grounds the Imperials would have still maintained a hideous advantage in numbers, equipment and firepower over the rebels but thanks to old Palps not putting safety nets over his reactor shafts....

Yeah, there is a lot of confusion and contradiction over it.

The way i understand it is this:

After the Executor crashed, command transferred to the next in the chain of command, being Chimaera (as secondary command ship).  As the fighting continued, her captain was killed, leaving Pellaeon in command (both of Chimaera, and accidentally the fleet).

When Palpatine died, his Force Meditation was cut, leading to (as Thrawn later surmised) the loss of coordination and morale among the remaining fleet.  This followed almost immediately by the destruction of the Death Star, caused massive panic and confusion among the fleet (natural, considering the huge loss the Death Star represented, plus the probable death of the Emperor).

Pellaeon then ordered the retreat towards the edge of the system (in realspace, partly due to Endor's gravity, and i assume also to allow for collection of survivors from ships, and Death Star) assuming the Rebels wouldnt follow.  The fleet was slow in responding to this, and following Teshik's reappearance (having survived the Death Star's destruction) was cancelled.

The fight continued for some hours until Teshik's ship was neutralised, at which point Chimaera/Pellaeon regained command, and issued the to order to retreat to Annaj (which some commanders ignored, including Harrsk).

I'm little confused right now. Did the battle of Endor continue several hours after the destruction of DSII, as I believe, or did it end quickly with Pellaeon giving the order to retreat?
wookiepedia says, on different pages, that both happened.
