Greater Maldrood defeating Zsinj

If I'm not mistaken if you defeat Zsinj as Greater Maldrood and control some specific planets you automatically absorb some of his territories, anyone know which ones I need to control to make that happen?

No, you don't automatically absorb any of his territory.

You don't get territory, Zsinj Empire loses control of the CSA planets when he dies.
