With the death of the Shoutbox (may it rest in peace) there is now a reason to start a thread that is simply about discussing the random bits of information and trivia stuff that was supposed to be the original purpose of the Shoutbox. So without further ado, here it is!

First bit of conversation: who are you rooting for to win the World Cup? Personally, Germany is looking like a strong contender.

Seriously, since USA and Mexico are out, I could give a hoot. Round of 16 done yet?

More importantly to me, who does everyone think will take the F1 drivers championship this year? You think Nico can hang on and win, will Lewis right his recent bad luck and storm back to take it? Or does someone think Riciardo or Alonso can manage to make a huge jump in performance to score enough to take it at this point?

Well I hope Germany can win. France is going to be tough but I think Germany can beat them.

How could the cheese eating surrender monkeys be tough? Just go out and threaten them whenever you have the ball and they'll jump out of your way waving their white flags and let you go and score at will. It's what surrender monkeys do...

Soccer is one of those sports I'll only watch when national pride is on the line. As far as I'm concerned, football season can't come soon enough.
I'm guessing Germany will probably win.

Wait, is F1 the same thing as Indycar series, or is it something else? The cars look pretty darn similar... I'm only familiar with a few drivers, the last race I saw was the Indy 500, which was a hoot.

Totally different series. F1 is a worldwide series with only 1 (should soon be 2) races in the US, and no oval track racing. Indycar series is MOSTLY oval track with mostly US and a few canadian races. There is the occassional driver that crosses between the series though, as outside the top 2-3 teams in F1, you don't make a lot of money as a driver.

Well Germany does have a history of beating France...in Soccer as well as Military...

Continuing on the sporting theme (and I know that the World Cup and Wimbledon have both been continuing today), did anyone catch part of the Grand Départ for this year's Tour de France? I've been watching it on TV for most of the afternoon, but look who was actually there:
