What would you do as an Imperial Fleet commander(or Moff) of a Sector or Fleet after hearing the Emperor has died and seeing all the various factions arise? Who do you serve if anyone?

It would be a toss-up between Kaine and Thrawn, as they would have been (in my mind) the two Imperial military leaders who had the most respect. The only reason I would side with Thrawn rather than Kaine is that Kaine did not have any plans to fight back against the Rebels; he only wanted to maintain his little kingdom. Thrawn and the other hand was prepared to bring the fight to the New Republic when the time was right. He also had a reason to form his splinter Empire (it was established with Palpatine's consent to protect the galaxy against extragalactic threats.

Thrawn would be my choice as well but there is one little problem with that. Nobody knew where exactly he was and what he was doing apart from the Emperor and maybe Vader who happened to be dead. But still my choice is fleeing to the uknown regions away from the rebels and warlords.

Thrawn just because he was planning on taking back the galaxy and the fact that no one knew where he was (except the emperor who's dead).

Not actually true. Isard knew where he was and so did Krennal, many knew Thrawn was in the Unknown Regions few knew WHY he was there. It was widely believed to be a punishment assignment mapping the Unknown Regions. Also don't forget to vote.

For me I'd have to go with Kaine though Thrawn would be a close second. Kaine was one of the highest ranking Imperials left after The Emperor, Vader and Pestage. With the death of many of the Grand Moffs and Grand Admirals in the two years after Endor this was even more true. He had a SSD and one of the most powerful fleets in the Galaxy backed by rich worlds and corporations. he also held muunilinst, the financial center of the Empire(and to a degree the rest of the galaxy) He didn't attack fellow Imperials and finally when Thrawn returned he was technically subordinate to Kaine in rank at least. The fact that he created a sound government that continued to function after his death is also a credit to his ruling skill(Almost all other Warlord's kingdoms collapsed within weeks or months of their deaths(Zsinj for instance)I do agree he was to isolationist but once he was goaded into action he won 12 back to back victories in a drive to the core that demonstrated his military prowess and finally the NR saw him as enough of a threat to personally assassinate him.

I would probably hop on the Thrawn bandwagon, mostly because as Revanchist stated he actually intended to defeat the rebellion and restore order to the galaxy. I think there are a lot of interesting parallels between Thrawn and Kaine; and Alexander's successors, Seleucus and Ptolemy. Much like Ptolemy, Kaine seemed to be only interested in preserving his own mini-empire. Both Thrawn and Seleucus were brilliant strategists who attempted to reunite their respective empires, only to be assassinated before their ambitions could be realized.

I'd go to Kaine.  The popular belief at the time was that Thrawn was away due to punishment, and there'd be no knowledge that he would plan to strike back.  Also, I like the fact that Kaine focused on stability of the empire first and foremost, making sure to craete a truly stable government instead of just a short lived fiefdom that collapses if he is removed.  He also toned down the anti-alien policy, which makes his government also my overall favorite (obviously Thrawn didn't have this either, but at the time, I probably wouldn't have known WHAT Thrawn did have).
People should not be afraid of their government...governments should be afraid of their people.

I'm torn on this. On one hand I would KILL to do an expedition, but on the other hand taking over my home planet and defending it to the last man is also my kinda thing. Oh well.

No reason you couldn't do both. Fight until defeated then flee to another Warlord(many Imps did this)

most likely I would set up anti rebel cells in my sector stationed by commandos to drain the resources of anyone attempting to seize them.
I would then then join warlord Zsinj and set myself up in myself in a powerful position under his command.
After his death I would negotiate with the pentastar alignment to help me take control of Zsinj's former forces and fall under the pentastar banner.

During the thrawn campaign i would probably contribute significant forces to thrawn as well as help hold captured territories.
During the shadow hand campaign I would maintain neutrality for the most part and the when kaine was assassinated seize command and ally against the crazy palps clone. then join the united war lord fleets willingly and destroy the rebel scum.

huzzah :police:

Good plan. I would have helped Zsinj out too since he was one of the only Warlords who full on fought the NR pretty early on.

If you managed to live that long. Bright Imperials tend to fall victim to "the good guys must win" syndrome. As to Thrawn, yes people thought it was a punishment, but no one really knew what he was doing there.  Therefore it would be a way to keep the major Imperial factions happy: I could tell Isard that I was going to find Thrawn to get him to add his forces to the war effort, and I would be keeping out of Kaine's hair (making him happy). At the same time, I would have conserved my own forces during the initial years of carnage; the NR would probably even forget my fleet's existence, allowing me to strike back at an unprepared New Republic Navy.

Interesting plan, though Isard probably wouldn't want you going to get Thrawn(she wanted him to STAY in the Unknown Regions)

Interesting, I expected Thrawn and Kaine to come away as the big winners here(no surprise there) but I expected Zsinj to get a little love outta this lol I mean we got a Corporate Sector vote(Bit surprised there) and a NR defector(wonder if that vote is motivated by nobility or self preservation of the officer in question) No one seems to like the other Warlords(Understandable considering their pettiness and relatively poor military reversals) and of course every SW EU fan seems to hate Isard(with good reason mind you) Come on Lads and Ladies lets get some more votes, Corey, Slornie and Kalo get in on this too!(If you have time I know how busy you guys are)

Self-preservation.  How could any self-respecing individual WANT to join the rebel scumbags instead of being part of a mighty allegiance?

Agreed, I'd have happily given aid to all the Imperial Factions before going to the Rebels.(yes even loan TIEs to Isard as long as she didn't use them on fellow Imperials) I'd have backed each one as they fell and ended up with Pellaeon in the 8 Sectors of the Imperial Remnant as an die Hard loyalist to the End.
