Yes, you are looking for the Files section. Specifically one of thse two:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/thrawns-revenge/downloads/imperial-civil-war-21-zip1
http://www.moddb.com/mods/thrawns-revenge/downloads/imperial-civil-war-21-installer

Again, you can use either of these for any version of the game the files they containa re ultimately the same. The difference is Steam users typically are less confused by the zip version since they would need to change the installation path the installer points towards.

I tried the recommended RAR file. The same thing happens, an advertisement for "WinZip" poops up and I can't access the file itself. So I'm not sure if I don't have the ability or not to even access the RAR file without some other form of programing. I'm in the process of downloading the installer. I'll let you know how that goes. Thanks.

Which link did you use for the installer?

I'm using the one that you provided in your last response. I used the Zip file from your last post as well and had the same "WinZip" issue from it.

OK, just uninstall winzip and install 7zip instead.  It's open source so won't ask for registration, and it supports more filetypes than winzip.

Which type should I use for windows 10? The 32-bit x 86 or the 64-bit x 64?

Ok I found my system specs with windows. I have an x64-based PC, so should I use the 64-bit x 64 version of 7-Zip?

Well never mind. I figured it out with enough research. I loaded the x64 bit from 7-Zip and installed the mod from the tutorial video. The mod loaded and everything seems to be working fine so far. I'll have to play the mod a little bit to get the hang of the changes. Thanks for all of the patience and help!

Everything was running great, till I could no longer select my units. Ran the Defreeze now when go to load my saved game it just thinks about loading it. Any new campaign runs great. Am I SOL on my original campaign?

Hello! First off, let me say that for the time I played the mod, I've really enjoyed it (despite it crashing at the start of every other battle). I've logged a good twenty hours into the game before finally deciding I'd try and do some troubleshooting on the crashes. Unfortunately, the fixes I've attempted seems to have made matters worst and now vanilla FoC won't even start! When I select it, it loads up the vanilla game as if I had selected Empire at War. I've tried reinstalling twice, double checked the mod path, and just about everything else I can to get it to work. Any help I can receive would be greatly appreciated, as I just blew through the base game and found it really lacking without your great mod!

(I posted on this earlier, but after reading the first post here again, figured I should have posted it here in the first place. Feel free and archive the other.)

I'm using Windows 10 64 bit and am using the Steam version of the game.

What were the fixes you attempted?

Thanks for the speedy reply! To answer your question, I attempted to install the RAM patch ((couldn't do it, though I beleive it's corrected in the Steam version, still I tried), and switch the compatibility mode from Windows 7 to Windows XP SP2. For the life of me, I just don't get why, whatever the issue is, it isn't reset when I install the game. Could it be something in the registry or ... it has to be on my PC's end but for the life me of I don't know what it be.

Well, we'll start with just getting your FoC back to normal. First I'd say uninstall again through Steam, then go into your Steam folder and completely delete the folder for EaW if anything's left (it'll only uninstall most files, not everything if other stuff was added later) and then reinstall through Steam after that and see if it works normally. If so, we can get to mods.

Already tried that, twice in fact. That's why I'm so perplexed. I've had games in the past where problems carried over from one install to another because I didn't delete the settings tied to a .txt in the documents folder. But I've not found one of those so perhaps this game does it differently with the ini settings (assuming that's even a thing). I did go and backup then deletes the saves though that I found. Still, no luck.

Update: I FIXED IT!!!!

I decided to work off the premise that something was being left behind after the uninstall that I simply couldn't find (as I did delete the folder after the normal uninstall was complete). After being convinced it was something buried in the registry, I decided to pull up a proper uninstaller (Revo Uninstaller if you are interested) and do an advanced scan. Sure enough, it found 10 registry entries and deleted them. After one last install, the game pulls up like a charm. I do have a couple of wrap up questions:

1) Do I need the RAM patch if I'm running the steam version?

2) Which compatibility mode should I run things in? I confirmed that putting it to Windows XP SP2 is what caused it to mess up in the first place.

I've seen conflicting opinions on those two questions so I'd just like your input on it.

1) No need for the RAM patch; the Steam build includes that natively.

2) Personally I haven't needed to apply any compatibility settings for the game under Steam/Win 10.

I edited the last comment after you did, so I thought I'd point out that doing the compatibility mode is indeed what messed up (so had to do it all again, glad to have fast internet). In any case, do you know why the game would be crashing then as often as it has been? I've watched Corey's let's play (and somone else that I can't recall) and they don't have those same issues.

What settings do you all use/recommend in terms of graphics? I'm running a GTX 970/i5-2500K so I would think I could max everything out but maybe there is something I'm not considering.

Settings shouldn't matter for that. When it crashes, do you get an exception error or does it just drop, and does it happen in the base game?
