I find it unlikely they'd want that style of work, because it's too "old-fashioned" for a "forward-thinking" company who wants to do CGI shows.

I'm pretty sure they sure they do 2D. Plus its not like he would be working alone as an animator, they have tons of people who can try them under whatever they do. All that matters is that he has experience doing something like that.
