Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / EotH Advisor

I was wondering if the briefing hologram at the start of every battle for the empire of the hand could be changed to the hologram of Thrawn from the original FoC you see talking to Tyber in the campaign instead of the Nikto mercenary hologram.
I was thinking since that you mentioned that the Raptor troopers model was running into difficulties that why not have them like the Defilers in the original FoC(basically spec units that can sabotage some things on enemy planets and cause them to revolt on some, they could only be in space in TIE Raptors but undetectable to enemy forces until after the sabotage, the Wraiths could be similar as only in space but their presence over an enemy world give certain options like sabotage and such you could just have them with their mix of TIEs and X Wings without worrying about a ground skin for them or the Raptors.)

« on: September 12, 2011, 07:32:49 PM »
The EotH does have power but it balances this by being expensive to build units and they take longer. The heroes are the only real bulwark for them until later in the game, as the IR I have little trouble on any difficulty crushing them early on so I usually ignore them until they are more of a challenge( I also try and see if I can save the Warlords before they get killed by the Hapans and NR, NOW THAT is a real challenge in Art of War!) Also the EotH has much less territory than IR and NR and less resources to begin with. I think they are quite well balanced.

You know he might be over an Enemy planet(as in orbiting with a fleet after destroying the enemy fleet(I've found this to be the case sometimes as an enemy fleet will decimate an orbital force but then not invade for some weeks)

I agree, also TIE Droid fighters and TIE Defenders certainly hold their own against EOTH ships. Lancers or Corellian gunships combined with some fighters to break up their formations work very well.

Here is the key difference as was stated by Count Dooku.
Jedi are directed by the Force.
Sith DIRECT the Force.
The Force is neutral like a lightsaber is neutral. A person can either use it to attack or for defense. Either for personal power or letting that power guide them.
The Jedi and Sith are both sides of the same coin. You need each for balance. The Sith potentially have more power because they use it's raw form for themselves. however the Jedi allow themselves to be used by the Force so they only do as directed thus they limit themselves.
I personally believe in the Sith way myself.
The Sith are not more powerful but they USE more power and in turn the power uses their life so it becomes a channel for potentially limitless power until one has reached one's limit. It draws power from WITHIN It is strong where the Jedi is weak.
The jedi way is also not more powerful but it is equal in that it is strong where the Sith are weak. It gains strength from everything around it, so it's impossible to fully extinguish it.
So neither is stronger. They are one. It is up to the Jedi or Sith.

Interesting theory. I see a few possible problems with it though. First of all let me say I fully believe the Empire was better for the Galaxy(I think Grand Admiral Thrawn in command of the Empire was it's best potential. Having said that, the problem with your analogy is that Vader didn't have near the power of the Emperor(after the whole loss of limbs and burning thing.) The Emperor's WILL is what held the Empire together. When he died that basically cut the heart out of the Empire and set everybody to rushing for his Throne. Vader may have returned as a redeemed Jedi but the people UNDER Vader would not have followed him. Jerec and the Dark Jedi, Isard and Imperial intelligence, many of the Warlords with their fleets, and the Grand Moffs generally despised Vader and only suffered him because of his power in the Dark Side that he would use against them(which he wouldn't do as a Jedi, he would hold back with too much mercy as Luke so often did) and the power given to him by the Emperor. They would have branded Vader a traitor to the Empire for the act of killing the Emperor and certainly would not have followed him. it would have been similar to what happened anyway.

I DO believe that the Galactic Empire was much better for the Galaxy than the Old Republic. They explored much of the Galaxy, kept internecine wars between species suppressed, brought economic and political stability, and security. The old republic in contrast was blatantly corrupt, and the Jedi were only as useful as the very government they served. In fact had the Empire NOT been formed, the Rebellion never would have happened, the galaxy would NOT have militarized at all and then just imagine what the Yuuzhan Vong would have done to it. So yes the galactic Empire was the savior of the galaxy, a Dark Savior.

I'd have to say Luke would win. His power in the force was nearly unmatched by anyone after he achieved mastery. After all he defeated Shadowspawn, Lumiya, Vader, a number of Dark jedi and even went toe to toe with ole palps himself.

On another note, Sidious COULD have killed Mace but needed Anakin to see he was helpless to force him into a decision.
In the book he even says as much to Mace when Mace says Palpatine was defeated by his own fear palpatine replies that the fear mace feels is not his. He quickly dispatched Mace with more than enough power after the hand loss thing. Also in the movie if you watch closely right after the battle moves out of Palps office and through the hallway it pauses in the foyer before continuing. mace makes a swing and Palps ducks it and holds his lightsaber point up to Maces throat. It's clear from both their expressions in the scene who had won. However Palps hesitates and gives Mace the opportunity to recover and resume the duel. power wise and skill wise it was like this,
Sidious=Yoda(According to SWEIIIRotS)
Tyranus=Mace(according to Yoda Dark rendezvous and numerous Clone Wars comics)
Dooku and Mace had roughly the same level of power and skill. As was well proven Yoda was stronger than Dooku but could not defeat Sidious. Sidious obviously maneuvered the confrontation to gain Anakin as an apprentice. Don't think the reflected lightning into his face was part of the plan really though...of course that could have just been to force the point as it didn't diminish Sidious' power in the least.

What about General Evir Derricote or Agent Kirtan Loor for Isard's era?
Derricote created the Krytos virus, could have the bonus of whatever planet he's on being toxic(inflicting damage automatically) on enemy infantry.
Loor could have an infiltration ability or act as a sort of saboteur similar to the defilers in FoC.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Mandalorians vs Yuuzhan Vong
« on: July 29, 2011, 06:58:22 PM »
Do you mean in one on one confrontation? or civilization vs civilization in a galactic war?
If you mean the first option I'd give it about 50/50. Seeing as how some Mandos are better than others and some Vong are not as strong as others. If you add Fett into the equation I bet on the Mandos.
If you mean the second scenario, then it would be the Vong without a doubt. It literally took EVERY one of the civilizations in the SW Galaxy to stop them. A single culture no matter how militaristic would have been crushed by overwhelming numbers.

So I have to say Yuuzhan Vong.

Star Wars Discussion / The Number one Imperial Warlord
« on: July 27, 2011, 08:13:34 PM »
Who was your favorite imperial Warlord?

Grand Admiral Josef Grunger? one of the original twelve who went rogue to fulfil his ambition and hunger for power, he was a contender for the Imperial Throne in the months following Palpatine's death. He possessed an enormous fleet commanding from his SSD Aggressor. His ambitions came to ruin however in a fratricidal battle with fellow Grand Admiral turned warlord Danetta Pitta when after being fought to a standstill he rammed his flagship into Pitta's torpedo sphere killing them both rather than admit defeat.

Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta? another of the original twelve who also went rogue in an effort to solidify his power by taking the correllian sector and its productive shipyards he commanded from a torpedo sphere above Corellia. He sought to create a kingdom in which he controlled the trade routes through the correllian sector and into the core to eventually expand into the core. He stood in the way of Grand Admiral Josef Grunger's attempted invasion of the core and fought him to a stand still. Pitta was killed when Grunger rammed his SSD into Danetta's torpedo sphere obliterating both combatants.

Grand Moff Ardus Kaine? He became independent of the Empire and managed to consolidate his power into a solid kingdom called the Pentastar Alignment that had dealings with all other factions while maintaining neutrality and managing to stay out of the majority of the vicious infighting. He commanded great power and financial wealth due to corporate backings. He was also in possession of the mighty SSD Reaper. He kept his Empire stable and powerful for six years after Endor until his assassination by the reborn emperor palpatine for refusing to take part in operation shadow hand.

Warlord Zsinj? Admiral of the Quelli Sector Fleet and all the resources in it he also commanded the SSD Iron Fist, He managed to take control of a full third of the galaxy and nearly secured the services of the dreaded Nightsisters of Dathomir. His secret operations Chubar and Minefield caused devastating trauma throughout the NR. However he over reached when he attempted to hijack the Imperial SSD Razors Kiss from kuat. The Moff Council brought Imperial forces to bear against him and Zsinj found himself beset on all sides by the NR, the IR and his fellow warlords. With a combination of sabotage, misinformation, betrayal, the many fronted war he found himself in, and fiendishly bad luck he was killed in the battle of Dathomir by Han Solo.

Supreme Warlord Blitzer Harrsk? He was the first to proclaim himself a warlord after Endor. he took his fleet and claimed a sector of space calling it Zero Command. He managed to fight off both NR and fellow warlord incursions into his kingdom for 7 years after Endor. However he never managed to expand his small Empire as he became bogged down in infighting with his fellow warlords, bleeding his forces into near irrelevance on the galactic scale commanding a mere 12 ISDs. He was killed by Admiral Nataasi Daala for refusing to reunite with the other warlords to attack the NR.

High Admiral Trueten Teradoc? Remained nominally loyal to Imperial Center until it's fall then declaring himself to be the protector of the oversector. He feuded with Zsinj over territory and annexed much of Zsinjs fleet after the Warlords death at Dathomir. He eventually was pushed by the NR into the deep core where he became embroiled in internecine wars with the other warlords, Harrsk in particular. He ruled with his fleet of 73 Crimson Hulled VSDs dubbed crimson command. He was assassinated by Admiral Daala for refusing to unite with the various other warlords against te NR.

Superior General Delvardus? He rose from relative obscurity to become a major warlord after Endor. he seized a majority of the outer rim before being driven back into the deep core by the NR. There he steadily scraped together the funds and materials to create the massive SSD Night Hammer which he covered with Stealth black plating rendering the giant ship nearly invisible. However before he could unleash this new monstrosity on either his fellow warlords or the NR he was assassinated by Admiral Daala for refusing to unite with the other Warlords against the NR.

Prince Admiral Delak Krennal? He took the initiative after Endor and escaped from under his master Isards thumb. He killed Sate Pestage and took over his holdings in the Ciutric Hegemony. He was a ruthless and somewhat cunning man, learning political manipulation from a clone of Ysanne Isard he rapidly grew into a thorn in the NRs side after the Thrawn crisis. He held power for over 5 years after Endor before being killed by the NR in battle above his capital.

General Gaen Drommel? He went rogue almost immediately upon hearing of the Emperor's death at Endor. Taking the SSD Guardian and three ISDs he launched a wave of terror throughout rebel held worlds until he was caught in a trap and lost his three ISDs and had his SSD badly crippled. Still he managed to escape and remain hidden for years before being found and killed right before he finished repairs to his flagship.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Imperial Remnant vs. New Republic
« on: July 01, 2011, 07:23:12 PM »
With the exception of a few minor battles and Yavin and Endor(which was lost due to a combination of the Emperor's restriction on the Imperial Fleet, the loss of chain of command and INCREDIBLE LUCK on the part of the Rebellion) the Empire did pretty much smash the Rebellion at will. The Empire's Fragmentation after Endor is what destroyed them, they really doomed themselves more than the NR ever did. To a degree I believe the Imperial Remnant could have won had it been united early on rather than splitting so much. What doomed the Empire was Warlordism, internal politics and the loss of the Emperor. Isard was a complete power hungry FOOL who arguably caused the most damage to the Empire through her manipulations and so called schemes after palpatine's death.
Following this were the seemingly endless power struggles between the feuding Warlords, Harrsk, Teradoc, Delvardus, Krennal, Drommel, Grunger, Pitta, Kaine, Zsinj and numerous others that whittled the Empire's military down to paltry numbers and territory.
Thrawn showed just what the Empire could do when it was united and focused properly! In less than a year he reconquered half the galaxy and had the NR reeling! Then his death sent everything in a downward spiral again.
The REAL kicker was the Imperial mutiny that utterly destroyed any unity and military prowess Grand Admiral Thrawn had rebuilt.
I feel that the Empire had no real chance to win the war after the last death of Palpatine and the loss of the World Devastators, Galaxy Gun, Eclipse, Eclipse II, the Sovereigns, Shadow Hand Fleet, Byss, all the Emperors most experienced advisers and Dark Jedi.
The loss of the Interrim Ruling council, and more importantly their secrets, as well as the continuing damage done to Imperial forces by the infighting Warlords pretty much sealed the outcome.
By the time Daala and Pellaeon got control it was too little too late. It was only a matter of how long they could postpone the inevitable.

A few other ideas I'd like to present.

First, could the Yevetha be given more ships from the Black Sword command? They captured 9 Imperial Starships when they revolted, they have the Intimidator/Pride Of Yevetha already but according to what I read, they also captured 5 Imperial Class Star Destroyers, 2 Victory Class Star Destroyers, and an Interdictor Cruiser. Granted these ships were all in repair docks at the time of the revolt but certainly would have been operational by 2 to 4 years after Endor, thus fitting into the mods timezone. This would coincide with canon and give them a little more bite since right now they are virtually road kill for the EoTH or IR or NR lol. Could they also be given a few more Thrustships? I feel this would make them more of a threat instead of a road kill, while keeping it realistic with what they had before they really cranked up their fleet construction by 10 years after Endor.

Second Could Byss be moved closer to the Deep Core? Right now it's kind of in the mid rim on the GC map. this would put the Reborn Emperor in a direct line to multiple core worlds faster as well as coinciding with it's actual location.

Third The Crimson command of Red Hulled Victory SDs for the IR in Daala's era. Could have them able to be built only when Pellaeon is in orbit over a planet with a medium Frigate shipyard(like Niles Ferrier with the katana dreadnaughts.) Could make them much faster than normal Victory SD with more firepower, but balance it out with weaker shields and hard points. they would make great first strike vessels for the Empire but have lower health thus adding to the idea of how to use them strategically.

Fourth, could you redo the voice for the Eclipse and Sovereigns? As it is now they sound like they have Mon Calamari at the helm. Could you use Tyber's voice over all for them as you did when the super laser is fired? he sounds much more Imperial and ruthless, as well as being human in keeping with the Empire's Xenophobia under Palpatine.

Fifth, Could the Lusankya the NR has have the new Republic crests on it's flanks as described in X Wing Isards Revenge and as seen in Crimson Empire?

The Dark Side Elite would be neat to see. I also think Slornie's idea for the Wraiths sounds cool too.

Finally I'd like to say again how great the mod is and has become. You are also very receptive to the community and suggestions. I greatly appreciate you listening to ideas both from myself and other community members. You guys are the best mod creators I've seen. Keep up the great work!

Okay here is the wookiepedia link on the Hunt for Zsinj or Zsinj campaign as well as a list of planets significant in the campaign.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hunt_for_Zsinj

I tried to list the planets that were significant or scenes of battles and are not currently in Hunt for Zsinj scenario. They are also all in that area of the galaxy on the map I saw in the Star Wars Atlas.
Levian Two
Saffalore
Jussafet Four
Vahaba
Ession
Halmad
Yag' Dul
Mrrist
Also could you add in the Transitory mists?
This would bring the total areas of battle to 39 space arenas and 34 land arenas.
The addition of these systems and planets would greatly expand the possibilities of attack and retreat for both sides.

Hello again gentlemen, I have a few suggestions to present. I hope you find them useful.

First I was wondering if you might give Pelleaon's flagship the Chimaera the cloaking shield in the Caamas crisis level. Since it was the double blind variety of Cloaking you could balance it with the ships sight range going to virtually zero when it's activated but have the ship be completely undetectable for the time it's on. As for why, it would be canon as the cloaking shield was added to the Star Destroyer in the book, Specter of the Past and would give Pelleaon a nice little trick up his sleeve in that scenario.

Second, is there any way the Hunt for Zsinj scenario could be expanded? I mean like a few more hyperlanes and possibly a few more planets? The main reason the campaign against Zsinj took so long was it was an actual hunt, with plenty of areas for him to hide and reappear from. As it is now he's pretty limited in his routes of attack. Could you also put in Wraith Squadron as a fighter slash commando hero for the NR? Rogue Squadron was also instrumental in chasing Zsinj. A good balance for this would be the Fake 181st that Zsinj threw together to  bait Rogue Squadron and the Raptors(Zsinj's commandos and spec forces unit, could have same numbers as Noghri team or like you did the Hand of Judgement but with Raptor armor, which can be seen on wookiepedia, with same bonus of stealth and sprint or thermal detonators and have specialized TIE Raptors or fighting transports in space.) This would give Zsinj and the NR the ability to perform stealth attacks on each other and add a new depth to the strategy as well as bringing up the feel of the X wing novels with the fighter and commando raids in addition to epic capital ship conflicts.

Third, instead of Grand General Brashin in Isard's era, Admiral Delak Krennal and his Reckoning were more relevant to that time than Brashin, minus the ground option of a chariot. Krennal was a major character in the X wing comics and Novels as well as a relatively successful warlord later on in the EU.

Fourth the Imperial Royal Guards. Isard had a few protecting her, Daala as well(in Darksaber) and of course the Reborn Emperor. They would add an interesting element to the game since they use short range weapons so the player would have to really think on how to use them to their best advantage(against infantry, similar to a Jedi but less powerful). Could balance this out with higher attack power and the dash ability as seen in the Noghri. Only able to be built on Coruscant or Byss in Isards, Palpatine's, and Daala's eras. they could also be a semi counter to the NRs Jedi since the Empire only has Sedriss and Palpatine.

I realize that without a skin designer presently most of these suggestions are moot, but I make them in the hope a skin designer will be found in the future. Thank you for your time and efforts on this amazing mod.

I admit I feel it should be a tie between Thrawn and Pellaeon. Both were extraordinary leaders against long odds. Both were open minded and quick to adapt to unforeseen circumstances as well as having impressive foresight. Both were arguably the only reason the Empire survived at all after the death of the Emperor.

I feel I have to go with Thrawn though, for the following reasons. He mentored Pellaeon and helped encourage him in his ideas and beliefs while challenging him to improve and adapt. Pellaeon was truly a masterful tactician and deserving of the title of Grand Admiral in my opinion. However he loses out to Thrawn due to his indecisiveness for years. He lost his fighting spirit(though who could blame him given the circumstances?) and tended to follow orders rather than go against his superiors for a long time. He saw himself as a steward of the Empire not a leader and so he lost many opportunities to advance and possibly seize initiatives. He needed Daala to reunite the Empire by killing the Warlords, he was more comfortable taking orders than being the one giving them due to his long service under maniacs like Vader who killed for little or no reason their officers on whims, though Thrawn and Daala helped him recover from this and become the leader he could be.
Also in terms of sheer talent, decisiveness, cunning, and charisma I'm afraid Thrawn comes out ahead again. However if ever it could be said that Thrawn had a protoge it would be Pellaeon. He saved the Empire, kicked Vong rear, outlived all his superiors and most of his comrades though he was exposed to the same dangers, and helped change the Empire to something to be proud of rather than the despots tyrannical vision of palpatine. However Pellaeon is one of my all time favorite characters.

This is a poll to find out who you feel is the greatest of all time.
Was it Emperor Palpatine? Who created the Galactic Empire by tearing down a Republic that had stood for 1000 generations, who used maul, duped Tyrannus, turned Vader? Masterminded the extermination(almost) of the Jedi Order, ruled for 24 years(not counting his 13 years as Supreme Chancellor) before dying at Vaders hand at Endor, returned from death itself numerous times and nearly destroyed the Rebellion and later NR 6 years after his first death only to be foiled at the last minute by unexpected treachery at both Byss and later Onderon by Carnor Jax arranging for Palpatine's clones to be destroyed. With little choice to avoid his final death Palpatine attempted to steal the body of Anakin Solo only to have his soul intercepted by Jedi Brand and dragged literally screaming into chaos for the final time.

Was it Madam Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard? A woman who unleashed the Krytos Virus on the fledgling NR at it's time of greatest triumph?(Incidentally I believe the Isard is the biggest team killer of all time, having essentially HANDED the Rebellion legitimacy by giving them Courascant, Borlieas, Thyferra, and other systems through harebrained schemes. Also allowed the NR to obtain 4 ISD Mk IIs and the SSD Lusankya as well as fracturing the Empire into further Warlord factions by losing the symbol of Imperial stability-Imperial Center, but I digress.) Before her death she managed to inflict carnage on mass scales second only to the Emperor, Darth Vader, and Prince Xizor. She nearly rose to power again after Thrawn's death by using Rogue Squadron and Krennal as Puppets to get her back to Lusankya. However she was ultimately thwarted by Iella Wesseri and perished in her old office a blaster bolt melting into her "Iceheart"

Was it Grand Admiral Thrawn? Who returned to rebuild the shattered Imperial Fleet with the katana fleet, rejuvenate the badly depleted Imperial Army and fighter corps via Mount Tantiss cloning center, find numerous devastating uses for the double blind cloaking shield and enhance his troops abilities via the Insane Jedi master Joruus C'baoth to take the fight to the NR and come within a hairsbreadth of total victory were it not for his untimely death via treachery at the hand of Ruhk his trusted Noghri bodyguard. The very rumor of his return 10 years later was enough to shake the NR down to it's core and cause mass panic.

Was it Admiral Nataasi Daala? Whose desire to take the fight to the Rebellion led her into a personal war against the NR with only four ISDs and outdated tactics. Who survived and managed to bring the Empire under one leader once more by murdering all the squabbling Deep Core Warlords who had for years sapped the strength of the Imperial Star Fleet by fighting an unending civil war upon one another. Her assault did massive damage to the NR before sabatoge and bad luck stopped her short of victory once more and she was driven back.

Was it Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon? The Old man of the Empire, the man who served under all the aforementioned leaders and rose to the position of Supreme Commander of all Imperial Forces. he fought a skillful war against the NR for four years before managing to save the Imperial Remnant by signing a peace treaty with the NR and bringing the war to an end. He later fought against the Yuuzhan Vong alongside his onetime enemies the NR and chased the Vong out of Imperial Space with timely assistance from the Jedi. He was the only Grand Admiral promoted after Palpatine's death.(not counting Legacy series)
