Okay, lotta people look at the Thrawn Campaign and say, "Where was Palps? Why didn't he help? Why did he even help the campaign fail according to some? Why did he allow the Imperial Mutiny?"
Many chalk these things up to Craziness, megalomania, Social Darwinism etc(And to a degree they are.) However there are some very logical(Though in hindsight self destructivly fatal) reasons Palpatine did what he did during both.
First off with Thrawn. Thrawn returned and reunited the rim factions into a confederation with himself at the head to save the Empire. During this time let us look at Thrawn's actions and how Palps would have interpereted them.
Thrawn returns, reunites the factions but makes no contact with Byss(Possible he didn't know palps was alive, but suspicious to Palps point of view). He immediately begins rallying and personally becoming an icon of the Empire(Which Palps had been very careful to avoid Thrawn doing until now) He procures HUGE amounts of Ysalamiri gains cloaking tech and clone facility to build and army loyal to HIM. Thrawn tells many that HE is the ruler of the Empire now, not some long dead Emperor(Thus stating his independance publicaly) Finally he gets a mad VERY powerful Dark Jedi and plans to clone him as a future Emperor(Now we have moved into what looks VERY much like Thrawn countering every advantage the Emperor would have had, thus making him VERY dangerous to the Emperor)
Thrawn was loyal to the ideal of the Empire, and his OWN version of that ideal differed from Palps vision, so why would he submit when he now held the power?
So of course Palps would not want Thrawn to succeed if it meant he would be supplanted by him.

Now for the Imperial mutiny. Why didn't Palps just come out and say, "Here I am! I am the Emperor, listen to me again!"? Simple. Each Warlord was independant, yes they were VERY loosely allied to take Coruscant(Most likely because each thought that they could benefit from it and then take power) During the Emperor's reign he always had a leash on these Admirals, Moffs and Generals via the Stormtrooper Corps, the ISB and the Inquisitorious. Now, that leash no longer existed. Most Stormtroopers were recruits or Army troopers loyal to their Warlord or sector. The Inquisitorous was largely destroyed and the ISB was a pale shadow of it's former self.
As a result all these commanders now held vast amounts of Military power in their hands, not Palpatine's. What was to stop them from refusing his orders? Or outright trying to kill him? Nothing but Palps own forces, which while powerful were not equal to the Entirety of the combined Warlord Fleets. Also while they were called the IMPERIAL Warlords they were each seperate nation states that were exceptionally hostile to any outside control. These were not Allies, they were ALL enemies as much as the NR to any power other than their own. His solution? Have them destroy one another and then step in as the dominant power when they are weakened. It's easier to fight one enemy than dozens. So he funnelled their hatred of each other so they would fall into internecine conflict. The result, they were devastated, badly mauled and weakened and to boot they had chased the NR away from the Core. Then Palps made his appearance in full force. With his superweapons, centralized stability and the rewards he gave the survivors of the Mutiny they submitted to him. His plan worked very well. He was back in charge, his enemies had torn themselves apart and with his clones, essence transfer, and the superweapons Palps had no doubt he could destroy the rebels who had been pushed to the corners of the galaxy anyway. This can be largely attributed to his ego, having cheated death and his enemies being so scattered and weak in comparison to him now. All things considered Palps plan was very efficient and well conceved for destroying Rival Factions....the problem was that everything hinged on HIM surviving as the center of the Dark Empire...without him it went back to factions...factions that were badly weakened and badly bitter toward one another for what each saw as the others fault for their own weakened state. With this divided and badly weakened Empire spread out over virtually the entire Galaxy it was relatively easy to reconquer especially as fed up as most of the Galaxy was with the madness that passed for Imperial Warlords and what insanity had been the Dark Empire. Add to this no legitamate Heir to the Throne, internecine thoughts and dwindling resource pools the Empire was dealt a death blow as a direct result of Palpatine's schemes.

Star Wars Discussion / The Warlord Zsinj
« on: December 24, 2014, 06:28:31 PM »
Okay as many of you who have been around for a bit may know I love the Warlords. They each have their own personalities and quirks as well as posing interesting foils to the EU heroes in their own ways. That being said I think I will start a Warlord of the Week post.

I'll start off with a personal favorite, Warlord Zsinj.

I love this guy, he's one of the best EU characters on the antagonist side of things in my opinion for a lot of reasons. He was a masterful tactician and politician able to simultaneously fight the New Republic, Central Empire and the Greater Maldrood with a great track record of success. He is also unique in that unlike other prominent EU baddies he isn't a Force user, he's not tall, good looking or Muscular like Kaine, Isard or Krennal. He's a short, pudgy mustachioed fellow with a face suited to a comedian. Yet he builds this Empire on charisma, ingenuity and tactics in spite of the obvious disadvantages to him personally. He rose up completely from the bottom to prominence, slaying his own talented mother as his first assignment. His tactics were innovative and extremely useful. His doctrine of never fighting on an enemies chosen ground while limiting his tactical success opportunities made certain he would never be decisively crushed either. Where other Warlords in their pride would have stayed and sent futile attacks to prove their superiority(Grunger,Drysso and Drommel come to mind) Zsinj never put himself in that position which also kept his forces alive and maintained experienced crewmen without wasting them. He hired pirates and smugglers for disposable troops and intel networks freeing up his own forces and again avoiding losing his own men as well.
He held off two attempts to take him out early after Endor from the NR with ease and tactical brilliance. He used the Iron Fist as such a ship should be used, as both a deadly weapon and a visible symbol of his might. Ackbar couldn't even FIND Zsinj, if the Wraiths and a combo of IR and NR team up hadn't been added to Petothal backstabbing him Zsinj never would have eve been cornered by Solo's Fleet-and even with all this stacked against him he still managed to pull an ace out of his sleeve and escape to heal.
He rewarded merit and punished incompetence. He was very generous with his crews and soldiers, many of them seemed genuinely loyal to him, not out of fear but admiration and duty, which says a lot for his style of leadership. He was also always with his fleet, when there was a battle he was either there or close by coordinating it, he was a warrior. He rightly figured that he needed Elite and loyal troops and being robbed of Stormies didn't do like the other factions and just slap the armor on newbies he MADE a whole new section of his forces that were MORE elite than the very forces they had replaced.(Cooler armor too) Zsinj was also an avid inventer, developing the Nightcloak, TIE Raptor, many of their transports and other bits and pieces of tech for his faction.
All of this aside I love this guy's personality. Whereas Harrsk comes across as a Psychopath, Teradoc a screaming coward, and Delvardus an overly arrogant elitist, Zsinj honestly seemed ironically the most grounded, He wore the white uniform of a Grand Admiral sure, but he never used a title he didn't earn, he had been AWARDED the title of Warlord, he was the FIRST Warlord and to be fair he was also the Grand Moff of Quelli Oversector and a Legitimate High Admiral to boot. I also think in terms of tactics, tech and inventiveness he was a better candidate for Grand Admiral than Declann, Pitta, Syn or Il'Raz certainly. So I can't even really fault him the Grand Admiral uniform. Zsinj could be charming, funny and even likeable from a reader's perspective. I loved the dialogue between him and Melvar.
He's just an all around treat to read and enjoy. Unlike Isard who never had a single moment you could relate to her, Zsinj did and scenes like the dinner with the Wraiths where he pretends to be pirate like add to that. He's threatening when he has to be, funny when he can be and likeable when he chooses to be(Something that a majority of the other Warlords lacked)
I enjoyed voicing him and one of the main draws to this mod s getting to live those What If scenarios of Zsinj I entertained since reading the X Wing Novels and Courtship of Princess Leia, I even got to be him(Voice over anyway)

I'd like to hear your thoughts on Warlord Zsinj and next week I'll pick a different Warlord to discuss. Cheers and if you're not fond of the Warlord well I don't have much of  way to compensate you...I suppose I could let you kiss my Wookie.

Star Wars Discussion / Post Shadow Hand Imperial Warlords
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:32:04 AM »
Operation Shadow Hand has failed. Palpatine is dead. Byss is destroyed. The Warlords have fragmented again and the New Republic is ascendant. Carnor Jax declares himself Emperor and tries to rally a council of Moffs and regional governors around him but his power is tenuous at best. The Pentastar is floundering but reasonably stable in it's isolationist stance, Teradoc commands the largest fleet but is involved in a massive multifront war with Delvardus, Harrsk and the other 10 deep core Warlords, Brill is a madman on Fortress Prakith. In the shadow Devian plots to drive out any sense of compromise and restore the Empire to Palpatine's vision-with himself as head of course.
You are an Imperial Officer,Governr/Moff with your ships and crew, or your army and planet or system who do you choose to join?

Star Wars Discussion / Greatest SW Pilot(0BBY-25BBY)
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:15:26 AM »
Who is the best? On this poll are some of the best pilots in the Galaxy. Who do you think takes the cake as the number 1?

25
Delvardus, Harrsk and Teradoc. Okay they get killed off rather early in Darksaber, they have all displayed ridiculous Megalomania in their actions and titles. Each had been defeated by the New republic and forced to flee much of their holdings but I wonder about each of these three Men. Each of them were admirals BEFORE Endor, each had their own unique approach to their ambitions.

What interests me about them is their approaches to tactical build up was so drastically different.
Delvardus went with pure quality, maximizing his killpower into one overwhelming vessel and a few other heavy capital ships. He invested in new tech, inovation and crushing centralized power in the Night Hammer.
Teradoc believed in mass production of small cheap units, a cuiser and frigate philosphy.
Harrsk went with a balanced medium approach. Battleships but standard ones that could be built in decent numbers and speed with interworkable parts and existing tech to simplify construction.

My question is which of these policies would you follow?
I personally would probably have favored Delvardus's doctrine. I believe that a vessel of Night Hammer's calibur is essential to a fleet. Technologically it is unique among SSDs. It had Stealth armor over the standard hull armor, making it more heavily armored, it required less than HALF the crew of a standard SSD, yet it's capacity for fighters and bombers was SIGNIFICANTLY higher than other SSDs(Over one Thousand Fighters acording to it's specs) It's safety systems were such that even when destroyed by the plot device, nearly ALL her crew escaped(Something other SSDs seem bad at, Executor, Iron Fist, Terror both Eclipse's and Aggressor are prime examples) yet dispite the massively reduced crew needed, it lacked none of the firepower of the other SSDs and still had enough ground forces for planetary assault or occupation. This vessel was superior to anything else fielded in it's day. It was equivalent to 20 ISDs in power, or 40 VSDs making it more than capable of crushing Harrsk by itself and holding it's own against easily half of Teradoc's main battle fleet-by ITSELF, coupled with Delvardus's other Forces he was a match for Harsk or Teradoc with this vessel. Maybe it's my German blood but I always go for quality over quantity.

Star Wars Discussion / What New Republic Commander would you serve under?
« on: October 19, 2013, 11:49:57 PM »
Though I am a Loyal Son of the Empire I have some great admiration for a few New Republic Commanders even if I deplore their rebel affiliation.
So who would you serve with, who of these rebels earned your respect?

27
Okay, as a SW fan I have odd ideas from time to time, such as what if certain songs were done in the SW universe?  So I wrote em and put em here. Enjoy. The songs converted are Attero Dominatus and The Angry American(Not a fan of the second one) if you want to know how they sound musically to the lyrics I wrote. Anyway I call them Attero Dominatus(Vong Version) and The Angry Imperial.

Here's the first one.

Attero Dominatus
Yuzzhantar is burning!
Denique Interimo!
the Vong have fallen!
We're in orbit of Yuuzahn'tar!
With two and a half thousand ships!
with millions of fighters in our fleet!
Use them as Rancor rams!
Shadow bombs leading our way
Millions of proton torps have been launched!
The Vong must pay for their crimes!
The faces of the Gods have been broken!
Admiral Pellaeon's orders:
Serve Yuuzhantar on a plate!
Disregard the losses,
The planet's our's to take!

Attero Dominatus
Yuuzhantar is burning
Denique Interimo
The Vong Have fallen!

The price of a war must be paid,
trillions of lives have been lost!
The price must be paid by the Vong that started a war in the outer rim!
The spring of the year of revenge
The year when the Yuuzhan Vong will fall!
We're inside Shimrra's Fortress
The Wings of the Gods have been broken!
Cal Omas orders!
Serve me Yuuzhantar on a plate!
Disregard the losses,
The Galaxy is ours to retake!

Attero Dominatus!
Yuuzhantar is burning!
Denique Interimo!
The Vong have fallen!
March! Fly! Die on Yuuzhantar!
March! Fly! Conquer CORUSCANT!!!
Attero Dominatus!
Yuuzhantar is burning
Denique Iterimo
The Vong have fallen!
Attero Dominatus!
Yuuzhantar is burning
Denique Iterimo
THE VONG HAVE FALLEN!
ATTERO!!!

And now to parody a country song.

My template served in the grand army until a droid shot out his right eye, but he flew the Imperial flag til the day that he died he wanted my brothers and me to grow up and serve loyally in the Empire of Tyranny
Now this Empire I was grown to serve has fallen under attack, a sneaky rebel flew right out of the black and as soon as we could see clearly from Emperor Palpatine's eye, we lit up your sectors like a feefeday surprise!
And Emperor Palpatine put's your name at the top of his list
And Lord Darth Vader starts clenching his fist
And a TIE will fly
And it's gonna be the seventh Corellian Hell
It will feel like the Galaxy is raining down on you!
All brought to you curtesy of my Black white and Grey!

Oh Justice will be served and space battles will rage
this krayt dragon will roar when you rattle his cave
You'll be sorry you messed with the Galactic Empire....
Cause we'll blast your rebel hide!
It's the Imperial Way!

When Emperor Palpatine put's your name at the top of his list
And Lord Darth Vader starts clenching his fist
And a TIE Fighter will fly
And it's gonna be the seventh Corellian Hell
It will feel like the Galaxy is raining down on you!
All brought to you curtesy of my Black white and Grey!

Let me know how you like(Or hate them) phew glad I got those outta my head.

Star Wars Discussion / What would you do in Post Endor EU (Imperial Version)
« on: September 24, 2013, 12:22:16 AM »
What would you do as an Imperial Fleet commander(or Moff) of a Sector or Fleet after hearing the Emperor has died and seeing all the various factions arise? Who do you serve if anyone?

Star Wars Discussion / Star Wars EU Movie dream Casting
« on: August 31, 2013, 04:22:19 AM »
If you could cast any actor or actress as your favorite EU characters who would you pick?
I'd say Benedict Cumberbatch as Thrawn, Jeremy Irons as C'baoth and John Cleese as Pellaeon.
Robert Downey Jr as Karrde, Sam Elliot as Bel Iblis, and Jane Levy as Jade.

Thoughts?

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / A few thoughts for 2.1
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:45:47 PM »
I was wondering if a few of these ideas had merit.
Self destruct ability for the yevethan thrustships
Some of the old pirate units for zsinj to diversify him a bit more
Wraith and Rogue Squadrons in Hunt for zsinj(wraiths as just a commando unit, Kell with thermal detonator, Donos sniper, Face, Han type, Phanan as medic with heal ability,  no space)
The population of Borosk should probably be loyal to the IR since it's a stronghold world

Perhaps a bit more emphasis on the importance of the cloning facility on Wayland in Thrawn Campaign. perhaps make infantry the Navytroopers seen in the PA with less health and firepower but more cost to show the IR's manpower drain while Wayland offers 1 cred Stormtroopers about the lvl of Zsinj raptors in damage.

Also if the Sluis Van mission could be done that would be quite interesting.

31
I'd like to submit the idea that Carnor Jax would make a decent addition to the IRs hero list in Shadow Hand as well as the Royal Guards as line units.

One as a fan favorite character and important player in galactic events(albeit mostly behind the scenes until Palps death)
Two the IR is somewhat lacking in the ground hero department of Shadow hand whereas the NR has Han, Chewie, Luke, Mara, Corran, Kyle and Lando as well as buildable Jedi. The IR really has only Palps and Sedriss with Veers being weak against multiple infantry ground heroes. I make the case that Carnor Jax and the royal guard would help balance this somewhat.
1)they are close range fighters similar but slightly weaker than the NRs mass produced Jedi offering new tactical options for the IR player with sprint ability but come in small numbers(say 3 to a group) and can separate like the Noghri squads.
2) The in game models for the Royal Guard already exist from FoC base game and need little tampering
3)While the IR has two heroes that are powerful against infantry groups they cannot zap hero units with lightening or convert them, making them somewhat outmatched by the hordes of NR heroes, nor are they great against vehicles(save for the convert ability if you get close enough). Jax could be given the crush vehicles ability and either the force push or sprint ability to make him a threat to both vehicles and infantry or at least have the ability to retreat quickly.
4) Jax need only a modified colored helmet and the cloak turned black instead of red. Most of his telekinesis he barely gestured so no need to animate the use of the abilities I would think. While his weapon in comics is different it could be assumed he used standard forcepike during Shadow Hand.
5)Jax also offers an alternative to Palps should he be killed

Will the Knight Hammer and Crimson Command VSDIIs make an appearance?

Greetings Corey, I seem to be having a bit of difficulty in AoW and EoW as the IR(Or the PA for that matter) When Thrawn Dies and the era tries to change from 2 to 3 the game crashes and I get an Exception message.

I have a theory that it might be due to Ardus Kaine being Alive since he'd spawn for the IR in era 3 as well as being in the PA(I had destroyed the PA and EotH but Kaine survived with Grant and fled to Byss)

Also I thought the AI for the PA was disabled when you play as IR in EoW and AoW(I ask because the PA seem to have killed Zsinj and all but 1 system of the NR while I was mopping up the EotH)

Star Wars Discussion / Grand Moff Ardus Kaine's death
« on: August 11, 2012, 04:18:42 PM »
Gentlemen of the TR community I post this poll in hope to clear up a somewhat confusing matter of Star Wars EU.
How EXACTLY did Ardus Kaine, Grand Moff of Oversector Outer and later founder of the Pentastar Alignment meet his fate?
There are numerous accounts, most of which are contradictory of each other.
One says he refused to follow the Emperor's orders and was ordered killed as a result.
Another says he was killed DURING Operation Shadow Hand, though no details are offered.
Another says his shuttle was ambushed by New Republic E Wings under Alpha Blue(notorious for assassinations of Imperial figures) on route back to the Pentastar Alignment after Shadow Hand's failure.
Why was Kaine not in something sturdier than a lambda shuttle when there was a history of assassinations in the delicate craft, between Pirates, NR, Warlords and discontents, wouldn't the Reaper or at least a Destroyer be safer to travel in? Especially for one who had been so very cautious until then. It seems a bit to fortuitous doesn't it?

Did the New Republic's Intelligence unit Alpha Blue finally, miraculously learn the location, route and EXACT time this Grand Moff who had eluded them for so long would be all on their own?

Were those really NR E Wings? Kaine had earned the ire of many in the Pentastar's government with his strictly isolationist policies, could THEY have killed the Grand Moff and laid the blame on the NR?

Kaine was not popular with his fellow Warlords who would have seen him as a very dangerous rival and potential Emperor due to his Fleet, the Reaper and his corporate backing with his powerful Sectors in the New Territories.

Emperor Palpatine was a capricious ruler who had sent many high ranking Imperial Officers to their deaths with no qualms(Grand Admiral Teshik for one, though he managed to stay alive...barely) Could he have meant to punish Kaine and had such orders standing upon his death?

Did Harrsk, Teradoc, Delvardus, Froga, or any of the other 10 major deep core Warlords who would have at least been privy to Imperial intel lay a trap for a potential rival?

Kaine had come down VERY hard on Pirates and many assassinations of lesser Alignment figures resulted, did pirates somehow learn where one of their greatest banes was and took the chance to strike?

What do YOU think?

Star Wars Discussion / Grand Admiral Zaarin's Coup Attempt
« on: July 22, 2012, 09:48:45 AM »
Do you believe that Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin's coup attempt(as detailed in SW TIE Fighter on PC) could have succeeded or not? Zaarin was possibly one of the best Grand Admirals after Thrawn in terms of strategic and tactical ability. He was also a brilliant scientist and technician having developed both the TIE Avenger and TIE Defender respectively. He brilliantly planned his coup in secret and succeeded in duping the two remaining Sith Lords in the galaxy and nearly killing them both. He captured the Emperor above Imperial Center, had forces ambush Vader and destroyed almost all TIE Advanced production centers removing threats to his new TIE Defenders simultaneously. He was foiled due to Vader, Marek Stele and Thrawn arriving in time to save the Emperor from execution and prevent Zaarin from assuming the Imperial Throne.

Zaarin proved a wily and devious adversary though as he escaped and continued to attack high value Imperial targets and nearly assassinated the Emperor a second time. Thrawn was promoted to Grand Admiral and sent to hunt down Zaarin. It took months and Thrawn was nearly trapped and killed twice in the hunt but he eventually tricked Zaarin into killing himself through his reliance on and craving of superior technology. Thrawn arranged for Zaarin to steal a cloak equipped corellian corvette that had a tracking beacon in it and if used in conjunction with the hyperdrive would destroy the ship. Zaarin took the corvette back to his hidden base and Thrawn's forces arrived and started overwhelming Zaarin's ships. Realizing the battle was lost but thinking he still held an ace up his sleeve Zaarin boarded the corvette and fled with the cloak activated to the systems edge. There he activated the hyperdrive while cloaked and the corvette exploded, killing all on board-including Zaarin.

So again, could the man who was brilliant enough to deceive and outwit two Sith lords, one of his fellow Grand admirals for a time and stage a coup that came within a hairsbreadth of success have been Emperor?

Greetings all. The Pentastar Alignment is to be playable in the upcoming 2.0. They will even have a specific GC designed on them. Any and all ideas for it are welcome. Here are a few of mine.

THE STARS ALIGN(Start with Kaine and his heroes with 7 planets. Opponents are Warlords(7 planets), NR(8 planets) and IR( 9 planets) 33 total. Galactic domination with side mission Valley of the Jedi(use Jerec to get to Ruusan and kill katarn. Once done you will have access to the Inquisitor Dark jedi and all force powers receive 25% boost while Ruusan is controlled by the PA.
FROM THE GROUND UP(Start with Bastion and Ardus Kaine and Jerec with Scourge Squadron(Some ISDs, VSDs, and a few lighter ships) You have to build the PA from scratch, including recruit the heroes other than Kaine and Jerec. your opponents are Warlord Zsinj and his heroes(start at Dathomir), The IR under Isard and her heroes(Start at Coruscant), The NR under Mothma and her heroes(Start At Mon Calamari).  missions are recruit Grand Admiral Grant by taking a fleet to Orinda to foil the IR from killing him. If successful he joins you with his ISD. Second mission is to form the PA talks. Take Kaine to Orinda and there each member of the PA will jump in at various points under attack by either Warlord, IR or NR forces. The mission is to save each member from each ambush and then survive a raid of 2 ISDs, 2 VSDs and a Dominator SD. Once done you gain the other four founding members of the PA as heroes and their bonuses with new units.) Once formed take the war to the enemy and conquer the galaxy. 30 planets total
FRACTURED EMPIRE- same as before but with the PA as playable and side mission of rescuing Grand Admiral Grant to gain him as a hero
EMPIRES AT WAR-start with all heroes and the number of planets the Warlord PA faction had in 1.3. Conquer the galaxy.

Spacetroopers do sound intriguing...how to balance them though? They would be cut to pieces by fighters. Spacetroopers have powerful attacks but would have very little health and speed compared to the other space units.
If they came on a carrier and could be dispersed close to enemy capital ships to do close range damage perhaps...do you have any suggestions Revanchist?

Star Wars Discussion / The Emperor Reborn
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:55:53 PM »
Here is a question that has bugged me for some time.
Palpatine/Sidious coming back multiple times in clone bodies using Essence transfer. I have a few problems believing that it was the real original Palpatine:
1: In essence transfer requires physical touch(in the book Darth Bane he has to touch Zannah to connect them) Palpatine was at Endor, his spirit supposedly took over one of his hands in another system, then was taken to Byss to enter his clone.
2: His behavior, the clones act like absolute idiots. They rave, they come up with plans of no secrecy or seeming purpose. Compared to his original scheming patience and genius this seems starkly out of character.
3: That he waited 6 years without doing ANYTHING while HIS Empire collapsed around him.
4:His lack of Sith traditions(he wielded no Sith lightsaber, he ignored all Sith teachings of wisdom)
So let me ask you this, WAS it really Palpatine driven ever more mad by the insanity of the abyss between existence when he changed bodies? Or was it a series of clones who believed they WERE Palpatine but were insane and lacked his cunning and patience?
