Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Know Thine Enemy
« on: April 29, 2014, 01:46:20 AM »
I believe it was Sun Tzu who said "know yourself and your enemy and you need not fear the outcome of a hundred battles." With that in mind, I finally started FTGU as the NR. Just captured Fondor, actually. That being said, I have some questions/comments about the NR as a whole so far.

  • First, I must say that I love BACs. The firepower they bring to the table is amazing and PTW doesn't drain shields. They also have PT launchers, which is awesome. I don't think I will ever buy a Dreadnaught again.
  • There are several ships I am not sure are worth my buying, though. The Sacheen, for example: what is its use? What about the Corona?
  • I really want to like the MC-40, but I just can't see their use. Somebody prove me wrong.

  • Also, I have heard negative reports about the Majestic. As it is IMO a pretty neat looking ship, what exactly is the problem?

As I go I will probably be asking more questions.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Questions/Comments About 2.1
« on: January 22, 2014, 09:05:49 PM »
There was one of these created for 2.0, now there is one for the 2.1 release.

Just installed it, haven't played yet, but will within the next few days. I will post my thoughts then.

That being said: I was looking through the files in the mod, and I found two files for Yuuzhan Vong Amphistaffs, last modified in 2012. What is the story behind this?

Star Wars Discussion / Dream Star Wars Book List
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:23:24 PM »
What would be on your wishlist for Star Wars books?

Right now I can think of four "traditional" Star Wars books I would like to see.

1) A series chronicling the 181st (similar to the X-wing series) beginning from the arrival of Baron Fel.
2) A book set immediately after the destruction of Byss, showing how the Empire fragmented into the separate Warlords.
3) A book series about the Empire of the Hand.
4) A book (or two) about the Orinda Campaign.

In addition, I think an interesting novel series could be based on the Vong before they left their home galaxy. It would open up a whole new and original series to the Star Wars mythos, with brand new main characters that would in not be heavily related to the main characters of the Star Wars galaxy.

The Lounge / GM/DM Advice
« on: September 28, 2013, 09:04:18 PM »
Hello all. Once again I am searching for advice. In particular I am looking for help from current/former RPG gamers. I am going to be the GM for a scratch-built campaign I am writing (its for the currently campaign-less tabletop X-Wing). I am looking for advice/tips/suggestions anyone might be able to give so that I can be as good a GM as possible. Thanks!

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Useful and Undervalued Units
« on: August 29, 2013, 02:59:54 PM »
Well, we have a thread on useless and overpowered units, so I thought I would start a thread on the opposite side of the fence. Which units do you find to be the most useful (and why), and which units are the most undervalued (and why).

The Lounge / Falconry
« on: July 18, 2013, 11:23:06 AM »
Hello all. As some of you may know (if you saw this in the shoutbox), I am currently being sponsored as an apprentice falconer. As such, I decided to open this topic for anyone who is/is interested in being a falconer. Any questions, comments, or observations regarding such are welcome.

Hey guys, I've been mulling this for quite some time. Lets get straight to the point: the ISD I is useless and redundant. It's not much cheaper than the ISD II, is weaker, and carries a poorer fighter compliment. The only ones I (and I assume most everyone else) uses are the ones in the starting fleet and any heroes that command them. Therefore, I have created this thread to find a way to make them useful once again. Please post any suggestions you might have.

My idea is to frontload the fighters in the ISD I, whereas stagger the fighters for the ISD II. This would give the ISD I more immediate use and the ISD II more long-term support.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / FTGU Strategies
« on: May 15, 2013, 09:43:28 PM »
Hello everyone. Recently (today) I began a FTGU scenario as the IR. As such, I am interested in some basic strategies for each faction in this scenario. Although I am playing as the IR, I would like to hear about strategies for all factions. I will also be documenting my progress on the game as I go along.

PLAY SESSION 1: upon beginning the game I built a Tax Collection Agency, a light factory, and began pumping out Novatroopers. In space, I built an MTC and a squad of Defenders, then attacked the leftward planet with my starting forces and these and easily took the space. Meanwhile, I began construction of another Defender squad and a Strike cruiser. Then I began a ground assault with my starting forces and two squads of Novatroopers.

Well, the title kind of explains it all...do you think this is real or a hoax. We should be finding out soon enough.

Alright, so my brother will be starting his first GC in Thrawns Revange soon, and he wants to play as the EotH. It has been a while since he last played any form af EaW, so he's a little bit rusty. So I know that Caamas Crisis would be a good starting point for him, but what strategies should he use for the EotH, especially in a land battle?

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / A Breakthrough (and some help needed)
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:15:57 PM »
Well, I have once again returned to the Tech Support forum. In the past, some of you may remember that I was having/still am having a problem downloading the mod and thus I have yet to actually play ICW. The problem lies somewhere in the fact that my computer (a Mac) refused to download more than a few kilobytes. After about 4 kilobytes were downloaded, the computer would say the download was complete and end the download. I tried everything: from downloading it from all the different upload sites to trying to download it directly onto the Windows partition on the Mac, instead of downloading it onto the Mac and transferring it to the Windows partition; still no progress. With my inability to play this mod and my unwillingness to play the vanilla game anymore, I was forced to search for other mods to try. I turned to RaW only to have the same result.

After some time I have returned with a breakthrough as to why it would not download. Having tried (with varying success) to download other mods, I have discovered the following: Downloading mods that are either .rar or .exe have always failed; however, .zip files will always successfully download. As your mod is in the first two forms (either .exe or .rar) it will not download.

Now that I know what the problem is, how can I fix it?
If I cannot fix it, is there any way the mod team could make a .zip version? I have been an admirer of this mod for some time and am truly saddened that I cannot download and play it.

Either way, I thank you for the incredible mod you have created and for the help you have already given me in the past.

Star Wars Discussion / Star Wars: X Wing Miniatures Game
« on: February 14, 2013, 12:02:48 AM »
Hello all. Recently my brother and I purchased a core set of Fantasy Flights new tabletop Star Wars game, and so far we have been loving it! Have yet to buy any of the expansions, but that will be changing soon (I play Imps, he plays Rebs). Just wondering if anyone else her has/is planning on playing it. If you have played it, what are your thoughts? Have you thought up any new missions (I'm working on an actual storyline, but I need more players, and in our area players are sparse)? Do you have any helpful tips?

The Lounge / Imperial Werewolf
« on: November 14, 2012, 12:45:08 AM »
Well, here I am during a lull in activity with a suggestion for something fun to do: a werewolf (or mafia) game, ICW style. If anyone is interested or wants to know what this is, please reply!

The Lounge / Battlestar Galactica Online
« on: October 31, 2012, 03:04:46 PM »
Well, during my fleeting moments of spare time, and when I am not playing EaW, I have taken to playing Battlestar Galactica Online. It is not the best free MMO, but I find it quite fun and amusing. Anyways, just wondering if anyone else plays/has played the game, and what they think about it. If anyone is interested in playing, let me know, since I still need to send a friend request to complete one of my missions. I play on the Scorpia server as a Cylon (what else is there to play as???).

Sins of a Solar Empire / Sins of a Solar Empire Strategy, Tips and Tricks
« on: September 27, 2012, 12:53:44 PM »
Well, it appears I'm the first one to create a thread like this. I have never played any of the games in this series, but from all the videos I've watched and the other forums I've read, these are my conclusions (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

For any faction, the best capital ship to get first is the colonizing ship. It saves you from having to buy slow and weak colony frigates, and has some fighters off the get-go. You also want to research and build LRM frigates as soon as possible. The next cap ship should come after your next fleet logistics upgrade. It appears that the best second cap is the carrier, as it allows you to field strikes from a carrier with teeth. At about this time, research your flak frigate: since you are fielding fighters you can guess the enemy will have them too. After your second cap ship, starbases should come out, especially on a multistar map. After your second or third cap, your Titan should be ready.

This just seems to be the gist of a game as any faction. Please put general tips, as well as faction tips. I will be adding more faction tips later.

Sins of a Solar Empire / Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion logo
« on: September 07, 2012, 12:46:23 AM »
Am I the only one who notices that the logo for SOSE Rebellion looks an awful lot like the logo for the EotH in ICW??
