Well the Ssi-Ruuvj are difficult to implement into ICW more for the ground units than for anything in space, as they should be receiving a full roster in Ascendancy when they become their own faction. Their ships tended to be carrier styled with a lot of ion cannons as they wanted their prey alive.

All the better to entech them...

Being an avid paintballer, I hate when I see RL.  I always read it as "russian legion", and I literally have to read it like 4 times to realize it means real life...  :D

I'm assuming you don't have the Steam version of the game (that should be patched to not have the freezes anymore), so you'll have to use the savegame defreezer that kucsidave mentioned.

This is far too harsh on ISDs 1 & 2. They have their flaws, but they get the job done, when you use them right. They work wonderfully in fleets with Praetors, Allegiances, Torpedo Spheres or Secutors. I've completed Endor Aftermath on Admiral as Eriadu, and I haven't lost a single ISD throughout the entire campaign. Just don't expect them to win battles on their own, always make sure that they have support (they themselves function best as support units for battlecruisers, imo), and micromanage pathfinding, so they don't turn their asses to the enemy. Trust me, it's all possible, and is much easier than it may seem.

Given his requisites, I'd definitely agree with the ISD-I ranking he gives.  They're not worth building.  They're not EXTREMELY cheaper than the ISD-II, but they are far inferior in combat.  And they have absolute garbage fighter/bomber complement.

It could easily be argued (IMO) that the IR ISD-II should get a 3 instead of 2.5, and the Zsinj a 3.5 instead of 3, but I personally wouldn't be willing to argue for higher than that.  Quite frankly, given their poor fighter complement for the IR, they're not fantastic.  They're adequate, but given their cost and fleet cost, they're certainly not anything better than average.  Their popularity in IR fleets is, IMO, more a reflection of the lack of anything truly better until you're quite rich than a reflection of the competency of the ship.  Zsinj is obviously superior given their fighter complement, but they're still only an average or very slightly above that ranking.

10 caps vs. zsinj if you don't count the fighters and the caps and zsinj are coming at each other (not popping in behind him), he'll defeat them by himself.  Without bombers or ships that have a lot of torpedoes, SSD's are still EXTREMELY effective against ships.

Question.  Why 2.2.5 instead of 2.2.4?

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / SaveGame crashes other games
« on: May 06, 2018, 12:44:04 PM »
So I just ran into this issue, and thought I'd post in case anyone else sees the same thing.

I was playing a game last night, saved and it crashed to desktop, no error, no nothing.  NO surprise, that save is corrupted and attempting to load crashes the game.  However, I found that if I started a new game, and attempted to save, it would crash to desktop without any errors still.  Uninstalled/reinstalled (steam), no change.  So went through and deleted the known corrupted savegame, and now everything works correcty again.

Not sure if this is a side affect of the fix that PetroGlyph is working on, or another issue entirely, but thought I'd post in case anyone was seeing the same issue.

I don't know, I agree with 1/5 for the Arquitens, same as for the B2.  Neither ship is worth even the small price they cost.  They're not effective enough even in bulk to danger anything, and without fighters aren't worth having in a fleet to add a little support fire while adding to your starfighter superiority.

The one I disagree with is the Vic-I.  As a DEFENSIVE unit, I think this is still a fantastic ship.  Don't really want many/any in a fleet that I'm attacking things with, but if it just needs to set and have it's enemies come to it, I still think it offers a lot of bang for the buck, even if not as much as in 2.1.

News & Updates / Re: [ICW 2.2] Era Progression Overhaul
« on: May 01, 2018, 05:24:28 PM »
Isn't this the point of single era GCs? I actually feel like the new era progression is an improvement as it factors lore and story progression into things and if you don't like it you have tons of single era GCs to do what you previously stated.

Yeah, but if you're playing a progressive as not-IR, it was fun to me sometime to see how much you could actually take without forcing a progression.  Or as the IR, it was fun to try to stick with just Thrawn when you're at your weakest, but knowing that if you start losing, you had the option to suicide Thrawn and get Pally.  Now it's just "build like a psycho while you have that leader before you lose whatever unique units they have".  As the NR, it's just set and turtle and wait for Era 5 where you're the strongest and can easily just grade through everyone, you don't have to TRY to survive Pally's return.  Takes all the fun out of playing as them to me.  Trying to survive Pally without losing a LOT of area was the only reason to play as the NR to me.

Yeah, I love the Strike cruiser.  While it fairs very poorly against anything with SUPER strong shields, it's power to weight ratio is quite impressive.  I'll usually have a ISD/ISD-II + 3 Vic/Vic-II's + a few corvettes and everything else Strikes.

Eh, IMO it's fine as is.  There's enough non-progressive GC's now that you don't have to deal with the freeze that I don't miss the progressives.

Because it was fun that if you wanted to keep Thrawn, you could keep thrawn.  Or as the NR, you could try to avoid Thrawn to avoid facing palpatine. Now that it forces you to progress, it just isn't any fun anymore IMO.

I hate the forced progression as well.  Enough that since testing stopped, I just plain won't play the progressive GC's as anyone.  It completely ruins the point of the GC's IMO.

All fixed, I ditched the disk version and downloaded everything on steam, been playing Greater Mal for about 4 hours and not one crash or freeze, runs smooth too
Love the new update now I am able to play it!

Ended up doing that a few years ago because it just became such a hassle to get the disk version working with Win10.

It does say long range ION cannons, but absolutely nothing about the Turbolasers.

Played ICW this morning, and some Ascendency this evening.  Built a fleet that might have been just a LITTLE bit overkill for the size of the galaxy I was playing on.

Has the imperials ever had the advantage of plot bunnies?  I'm sure they have at some point, but I can't say I can remember any particular instance...

The Lounge / New desktop on the way!!
« on: April 10, 2018, 11:27:34 AM »
So, my ancient desktop that's been upgraded a billion times to try to keep it usable finally has a replacement coming.  Saw that the Inspiron 5675 on ebay dropped about $100, so finally picked it up.

AMD Ryzen-7 1700X
8 GB ram (I'll upgrade that to 16 immediately)
1 TB 7200rpm HDD (I'll swap the 960 GB SSD in my existing desktop for that)
8 GB AMD RX580
Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Upgrading from a
AMD FX-8320
32 GB ram
960 GB SSD
2 GB GTX 760
Debian 9 + Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

I had noticed that the GTX 760 was reaching it's limitations in most games.  It just wasn't very smooth at almost anything new, and even in ICW with the lastest updates it was starting to lag pretty awful.  Looking forward to being able to play it smoothly again!!

I would most prefer the EU's plot bunnies.  Indestructible and allows impossible things to happen.
