Empire at War and Forces of Corruption / Steam Multiplayer?

My friend has recently bought EAW and FOC on Steam, where I own the retail DVD version. It does not allow us to connect in multiplayer due to different versions,  from a quick search around it seems the Steam version has a 'later' version number that appears to be simply a typo and a patch of the same version number does not appear to exist for the retail version yet they both do the same thing.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has found a workaround or fix for this problem that doesn't mean one of us having to buy the game again?

I've always used the crack because I'm too lazy to swap game discs whenever I play any of my older games, never had a problem with it. Never seem to have had much luck using mini-images for stuff like that  (hm)

That sounds good. A few mods have made GC scenarios with only 2 planets and a huge force in order to reinact noteable battles, eg recapturing Chancellor Palpatine above Courascant. It mostly works but it lacks the actual reason for the battle; like the actual rescue of Palpy, but without real changing of the game that isn't possible.

I use this, it takes slight altering in notepad to work with FOC...

Changing the sweaw.exe to swfoc.exe and putting it in the FOC GameData folder, its simple but it works :D
