News & Updates / Re: Dev Diary #2: The Imperial Remnant

Well we despised Super Ships in ICW because well, the engine is awful at handling them. There was really no way to accurately represent them in the EaW engine. As well, they encourage the worst sort of fanboys who want to add every ship they can find without regard to balance or even considering why on earth we would put them in in the first place. And fact remains that they were amazingly rare in the SW universe. Only the most powerful people in the expanded universe ever had even one, and usually they weren't actually committed to combat most of the time for fear of losing them. In the ICW timeline they are pretty much irreplaceable, outside of the Emperor's fleet. And in a larger sense, they were almost entirely worthless. Sure they may dominate most battles they are in, but for the price of one you could field and support a much larger fleet of ISDs that would be much more effective in actually fighting your enemy. SSDs can only be in one place at a time, and considering that the ICW was a galaxy wide conflict...well it's far more useful to have 25 ISDs that you can send to 25 different battles at once than having 1 SSD that you can send to 1 battle...and then lose the other 24.

I'd say that it should completely wreck most unshielded things, but from what I know it wouldn't quite do as much as you'd think it would to shields. The Executor got rammed by 3 ISDs going hyperspace speeds once and didn't even budge. Then again we also saw several ISDs lost to asteroids so hmm. Although I guess that's most gradual wearing down than one direct hit. So it would probably ruin the shields, but by that point they've already deflected it enough away to minimize damage.

It's not that the Dreadnaught isn't a powerful and deadly ship, it's that it's impractical for use in large numbers. The Rebellion especially would never have been able to use a standard Dreadnaught for many reasons. It had a huge crew requirement, and the Rebellion is small, it's slow so it kind of fails for escaping which is kind of important, and from what I remember it's a maintenance hog and the Rebellion is stretched for resources. In many ways it's in a similar situation to the Victory I. It's so slow that while it was incredibly capable when it was first introduced it fell behind in speed greatly enough over the years that it became completely impractical to use. All the firepower in the world can't help you when the enemy ships can just stay out of your range or escape extremely easily. The Assault Frigate answers many of these problems for the Rebellion, so while it isn't a direct upgrade it is a far more usable ship.

I quote Wookieepedia: The armor significantly reduced damage to the wearer from a blaster bolt.

Enough said.

I quote Wookiepedia: Although it could be penetrated by a direct blaster bolt. It disperses the blast enough that low-powered civilian blasters would have little effect. However heavier blasters can easily punch through. Every time a stormtrooper has taken a direct hit they've gone down. It might not necessarily kill them (shown in the X-Wing series where a pilot takes a direct hit in stormie armor and is severely injured but not dead), but they're out of combat regardless.

Stormtrooper armor helps defend against environmental hazards, physical weaponry, and low-grade blaster fire. Against military-grade blasters it does absolutely nothing. As seen by Han Solo's illegal heavy-grade pistol easily penetrating and killing stormtroopers.

And since most of them were crewed mostly/solely by Mon Calamari anyway, presumably they were familiar enough with their species design schemes to be able to competently repair them anyway.

MC80a is functionally identical to the MC80. We used to have it in the mod but it served no purpose except for cluttering up the build bar. The AT-ST/A is also too similar to the AT-ST, and they have plenty of land units already. Repair structures don't work very well in space with most ships.

Notepad++, and the best way is to just look through xml and try to make small changes yourself. Trial and error, you'll learn your way around it eventually. It's not really something that can be taught, it's mostly self-explanatory.

Except that the loss of Coruscant gave the Empire nothing to rally around. Without any sort of homeworld or central location to govern them, or any way for a successor to establish legitimacy by owning it..well obviously they fractured. Sure the New Republic now had to protect Coruscant, but it's still a massively important planet that legitimized the New Republics rule and likely gave them control of much more of the galaxy than before. Many worlds that were iffy on the New Republic before quite likely switched sides, and even most of the remaining Imperial Worlds were likely much less loyal than before. Maybe if the Krytos virus had been implemented as planned it would have been a worthwhile plan, but as is it was the single worst thing to happen to the Empire since Endor.

Fine, since no one else will, i shall give a reason to like Isard. She managed to kill the bumbling Imperial Ruling Counsel, who would have torn the Empire apart were it not for their death. She also gave Soontir Fel to Thrawn, where he served in the EotH.

Yes, because the Empire totally didn't fall apart regardless!

If I'm trying to win? 30 Quasars/Endurances/MTCs/Escort Carriers/Au'riettes/Acclamators/Venators. Spamming fighters and bombers is just far too good, and you barely ever have to replace any ships.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: The Number one Imperial Warlord

I would think so! hah. It beats me as well. Perhaps those Torpedo spheres are just so potent that in the hands of even an average Admiral they can cause some heavy damage

While the torpedo sphere probably played a large part in it, you should remember that Corellia has always been a very large and powerful system. The Corellian Sector Fleet is nothing to scoff at. Remember that most major shipyards planets had very large defense forces, as well as typically very large and powerful battlecruisers with limited hyperdrives that aren't seen anywhere else. There's a reason the Empire didn't try to mess with Corellia very much.

The only reason the Death Star Prototype was such a lousy shot was because of the idiot scientists piloting it. And it did hit the Sun Crusher a couple of times. However, I do agree about the Sun Crusher, it would be too OP. Maybe the Death Star Protoype could be toned down, with weaker armor and a weapon only as powerful as the Aggressor in FoC. This could be helpful, especially since the IR has no space artillery.

No, the targeting system sucked which is why it was so inaccurate. It was a durasteel frame with some essential parts attached.  The Falcon could probably destroy it on it's own. It would be an absolutely terrible weapon.

I'd hardly say the DS Prototype would be invincible. It was a giant frame with a superlaser, I'm pretty sure any actual military ship could snap it in half in minutes.

The Sith Slipper

Or Vithrynet

Yep, as he once wrote, he made his mod "as he himself would like to play", i.e. with lots of stuff not always very "canonica" (but often very "fanonical" anyway) - like the "mirrored" (i.e. with bridge up and down the hull, being a "twin" one...) ship used in a fan-made movie about "stormtroopers bringing peace to the Galaxy" (IIRC "the unit" or sth similar...?).
It's nice but sometimes my fleets in Alliance get packed with all that new stuff beyond any recognition, as I like to build all heavy ships I can - thus I finish with some ~20 SSDs of various classes... :D :P

You're thinking of I.M.P.S The Relentless.
