Forum Games / Re: Last Person to Post Wins

Sorry 'bout that then. I was mostly joking, as literally every forum I've ever been a member of has a thread like this, though the mods lock it on occasion as a joke.

On another topic, any hopes for the Steam Summer Sale?

Absolutely not Helix. Should've just let Revan Win.

I don't know why a mod doesn't just lock the thread for an ez win tho.

And then you have the people who have 3D Printers and have literally printed up their own Stormtrooper Armor.

News & Updates / Re: ICW/FotR: Microjump Preview
« on: June 15, 2017, 06:39:33 PM »
While I doubt the AI would be able to use it, it might be nice for the AI to do a microjump away from battle, instead of the ship in question literally turning around and running away.

Honestly, the fanatics idea sounds PERFECTLY suited to the Yvethans. They're fanatical enough to do it in the first place, and their pilots were known for suicide bombing.

Star Wars Discussion / Re: Looking for book reccomendations

In terms of Star Wars, Timothy Zahn is where it's at. I enjoyed Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry, as it offers a look into the years between Yavin and Endor, as well as an interesting character in Xizor.
One of my guiltier pleasures is Death Troopers. It's not exactly good canon-wise, but, I mean, Stormtrooper Zombies, man.

Besides, the number of Torpedoes it has gives it more viability than it would otherwise. It's a Carrier that can also pull duty as a bruiser that can actually hold its own in combat.
This is opposed to the Venator which is a support carrier that does most of its damage by piggybacking off of a ship with Ion Cannons.

For me, it's gotta be Darth Maul. Spends his entire existence playing second fiddle to a far greater threat(Dooku in Clone Wars, Vader in Rebels), and yet he kept coming back; as if he did something more relevant than kill Qui-Gon, and deserves recognition for it. The worst part is that he has no real backstory, or at least one that's compelling. Essentially, he just really dislikes the Jedi because he was Sideous' apprentice, and had two brothers.
Dooku, by comparison, is far more interesting(And was Played/Voiced by an amazing actor), having an actual backstory(He initially became interested in the Dark Side because of a friend who dared him to steal a Sith Holicron, and was Master to Qui-Gon), and having an actual character. Darth Maul just feels..... empty in comparison.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Guide: How to kill an SSD
« on: March 30, 2017, 09:48:51 AM »
In terms of the EotH, I've found Warlord Gunships to be VERY effective SSD killers in numbers. If you can hyperspace them in(or distract the SSD in question with something else) behind, they can have the shields of the SSD down before it even turns around. In one battle, I used 10 Warlord Gunships to kill an SSD, and only lost two.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Historical Battles?
« on: March 27, 2017, 01:32:00 PM »
It could feasibly work similarly to the Survival scenarios that we already have, but without the capital shipyard. Instead, you start with a predetermined fleet(based on what ships were used in the battle the scenario takes place in), and every "wave" you get a certain amount of reinforcements.

Let's say we recreate the Battle of Coruscant.(note, this is just as an example, and not necessarily lore accurate)

Let's say you choose to defend as the Empire.
You start off with:

2 ISDs
1 ISDll
2 Victory lls
2 Escort Carriers
and 3 Lancers/IPVs

Let's say you get a Victory ll and an Escort Carrier every other wave as reinforcements. Completing wave 3 rewards you with an ISD.

Now there would be 5 "waves" to this scenario:

Wave 1: 4 MC80 Liberties, 3 Nebulon-Bs, and 2 CR90s

Not overly tough, but if you waste any fighters/bombers in this wave, it'll make later waves tougher.

Wave 2: 4 MC80 Liberties, 3 Nebulon-Bs, 2 Nebulon B-2s,  2 Assault Frigates, 4 Y-Wing Squadrons, 2 CR90s

Same fleet, but with a few bombers and light frigates mixed in.

Wave 3: 3 MC80-Bs, 1 MC80 Liberty 2 Assault Frigates, 2 Dreadnaughts, 6 Y-Wing Squadrons, 2 Quasar-Fire carriers.

Wave 3 turns the heat up a bit by sending in some actual capital ships and frigates. This wave also sort of tests to see how well you managed the fighters you had started with.

Wave 4: 4 MC80-Bs, 4 Dreadnaughts, 3 Nebulon-Bs, 3 Quasar-Fire Carriers, 2 Assault Frigates.

This wave aims to soften up your defending fleet for the final wave, hoping you lose an ISD or two.

Wave 5: Home One(Ackbar), 4 MC80-Bs, 4 Dreadanughts, and 3 Quasar-Fire Carriers.

Probably either too easy or too hard, but it's an example. Either way, it could work out similarly to this.

In the mod Heavy/Light really just determines which level shipyard the craft is built from (i.e. Light Frigate Shipyard, Heavy Frigate Shipyard).

I'm pretty sure what he means is does a laser itself being light or heavy affect damage values.

Name: Jumm Shratin
Rank: Captain
Affiliation: PA (era 1-5), Or Corporate Sector if Kaine is absent in a GC.
Space Command: Modified Providence Carrier-Pride of Muunilist
Space Abilities: None

One of the few Muuns to ever show an interest in warfare, Jumm was a strong supporter of Ardus Kaine. Using his vast wealth as an extremely successful businessman, he was able to gain permission from Kaine to refit and upgrade a captured Providence Carrier formerly used by pirates. In exchange for the ownership of the warship, Jumm would be able to serve as its captain, provided he received the training to do so. After being trained in record time, Jumm began modifying the Providence with the assistance of Sienar Fleet Systems engineers. The end result was a modern, effective warship, with shields comparable to an ISD. The Pride gained a reputation for being a fearsome warship due to its multiple concussion missile tubes(replacing the original Proton Torpedo tubes), allowing it to take on many different ship types. Jumm himself proved to be an able captain and an excellent tactician.

Modified Providence weapons:

4 Dual Heavy Turbolaser turrets
2 Quad Heavy Turbolaser turrets
2 Heavy Ion Cannons
6 Concussion Missile Launchers

Due to its modifications, the Pride only carries 6 squadrons as opposed to 10.

Role: Essentially a heavier version of the VSD that takes damage and deals damage like an ISD.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Question about upkeep
« on: February 13, 2017, 01:49:30 PM »
If I'm remembering correctly, Awakening of the Rebellion has a unit upkeep system. From what I saw of it, unit upkeep does NOT occur above an enemy planet, but instead forces the credit drain upon whichever faction you have those units parked above.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Your Best/Most Memorable Battles
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:44:50 PM »
I know how important first posts are on any forum, so here's to wasting it.

First off, big fan of the mod, been playing it for several months, even introduced some friends to it.

Anyhoo, I'm actually kinda surprised that there isn't a thread on this already, so I'd like to pose the question of.......

What are your most memorable battles, whether it be space or land. You can include single/multiplayer, as well as those from the base game of EAW/FOC.  Ones that are particularly amazing and/or cheesy/silly.

For me, one of the most memorable has to be a really silly one. I was playing the Shadow Hand GC as the NR, and the IR had already lost palpatine to me due to him never leaving Byss. However, the IR was still producing Executors and I was sick of them coming in on a planet only to leave almost immediately afterwards, so I devised a simple trap for the AI(unsurprisingly, the AI walked right into it) by building a large fleet of disposable frigates because I was sick of losing MC90's. What did I use, you may ask? 45 Marauder cruisers and an interdictor I had captured. The interdictor never got used, mostly because the Marauders did all of the work. I left a planet open with a single light frigate shipyard, and waited. Predictably, the Executor-Class SSD shows up and blows up the shipyard. I send in the fleet immediately afterwards and begin fighting. To make a long story short, 40 X-Wings and a lot of "tactical repositioning"(ie moving the Marauders behind the SSD every time it tried to move) the SSD eventually went down. the cost of the battle? 3 of the original 40 Marauders, and half of the accompanying X-Wings. I then went on to take over the space of three other planets with the fleet before running into actual resistance.

So please, feel free to share your own stories.
