It's by faction as a matter of technical necessity. It's a bonus that piggybacks on the host ship's Degrading Systems buff.

Interesting. Is this because fighters themselves cannot have abilities?

Unless it's been fixed, the diplomatic ships were broken for the longest time in the 1.0 betas...

Not that it ever occurs to me to test them, so it could have been fixed for months now...

Do you bring Enlightenment through Superlasers!?

Ive been trying to target ships with shields down. They seem more effective at that point.

That said I share your concerns TheHubby. I admit I could be using them wrong but they just don't seem worth it over a mix of Combat cruisers and AA corvettes backed up by Support ships.

Cheers dude. I will try and bear that in mind :). Hopefully that will set me a little bit better in store for utilising them :).

Bombers, all bombers.

As in Y-wings to start and then B-Wings!!

Hell that is a lot of bombers. Doesn't it make them a bit vulnerable to enemy fighters or do you rely on AA corvettes for that?

Working my way through Season 2. Really enjoying it. Another good amazon series is "Into the Badlands"

RNG still has a large Standard deviation from the mean stated value. Too large IMHO. Of course I could just be lucky but most reviews point out that missing a 95% accurate shot is surprisingly common.

Otherwise I have been thoroughly enjoying it.

Ascendancy Tech Support / Re: Imperial-built ship firing orientation
« on: February 22, 2016, 05:27:22 PM »

So, basically, the shape didn't allow it. Completely changing the orientation of the ship allowed for most of it, which would also be true of most other ships.

This is especially true of Venators and VSDs.

Well... unless you simply orientated the imperial fleet so that the engagement was off axis in the Z plane. For the Imperials obviously they need to remember "The enemy gate is up!"

Picture is a Type 42 destroyer firing a Sea Dart (Batch 3 Type 42 if anyone knows their RN ships :P)

Reverse your fleet distribution.  Because of how plentiful they are, they're NOWHERE near as powerful in the game as in canon (as in, less than 1/2 as powerful as the B-wing).  You'll need decent numbers to win with them.  Interceptors will do basically NOTHING against any shielded vessel, they are only useful for the initial superiority.  If you have ANY AA corvettes in your fleet, you don't need anywhere near as many Interceptors as you have.

Roger. Seems like AA Corvettes are far more potent at establishing superiority for the bombers than Interceptors anyway. So I will try a 66% bomber - 33% interceptor ratio :).

For NR play how do you split your fighter mix up early, mid and late game between the different types out of curiosity?

Haven't seen this myself.  My Arquitens and CR90's have consistently always auto-targeted fighter craft.

With brutal efficiency I find :P

Good question.  While the skipray shouldn't get this so much (yeah, it was tough as nails but was a big target and not very maneuverable), the Defender would in theory since they were the performance king, and historically only the best of the best (or insanely lucky) got to fly them.

Fair point, although if this is also an abstraction of agility, speed, manoeuvrability and shields the Skipray could still end up with a small chance to dodge (15%?) to represent the fact its shield meant even if it didn't have the agility of a Tie Fighter it tended to have a longer combat survival than one?

Will New Republic craft have a similar values as this will be an abstraction of a number of capabilities and generally the NR was good at making sure the less agile craft like Y-wing and B-Wings had much stronger shields.

They're pretty simple really.  They have the masses of cheap, disposable units like the IR, but also bring masses of fighters to the party.  Go nuts on the Blastboats, use just enough interceptors to keep your blastboats "safe", and be sure to have a few Praetors to keep your frigates & cruisers alive for more than a second or 2.

How do you progress tech wise with them? Can they manage without a "rush to tech up" or is it wise to rush to the Praetors? How do you manage the early game especially on close knife fight maps?

Have to say I encounter the opposite. AA frigates make attempts to use fighters and bombers very tough for me atm.

So really liking the ability for the PA to focus on the fleet and on fighters. Coupled with some noice later Capital ships in terms of versatility I am enjoying them and the concept. HOWEVER.

I really seem to be getting minimal returns from my fighters. Clearly I need some advice :).

Currently my distribution is an early rush to Tie Interceptors and Skipray Blastboats (given the number of fighters available to all PA ships as well as large hanger reserves this seems reasonable?).

Current fleet distribution is 66% Tie Interceptors to 33% Skipray's

In combat I rapidly have my fleet target and knock off the enemy AA frigates, they simple do such a HUGE amount of damage that it seems pointless to field fighters without negating them first. Perhaps that is just my perception however? My bombers will have remained in my hangers. Interceptors will have been micro'd away from enemy AA frigates but picked on enemy squadrons as much as possible. Then they will assist where possible.

Afterward AA frigates are down I launch my skiprays.

It is here I seem to struggle. I now have fighter superiority and clear skies from AA frigates. However the effect my bomber squadrons are having is fairly minimal.

What am I doing wrong guys? Or are fighters in the mod just not worth it to this level. Seems likely it is me and not the mod as you guys are fairly consistent with Star Wars lore and obviously fighters were a serious serious threat to the capital ships in Star Wars when utilised correctly.

PA might well be my favourite faction but currently having to work hard to figure them out. Especially as I don't like playing against a computer less than Very Hard if 1v1 and less than hard if 4 way FFA.

Interesting idea. Is this bonus applied as a faction bonus or individually on specific ships? If so will thinks like the Tie Defender, Skipray Blastboat and such like also feature a slightly more limited version of this?

I'm sure Corey&Co have drastically upped the health points of the NR & EoTH fighters to make them significantly more durable than the IR/PA ones.  I've played a lot as the NR, and while it is harder to win through military, that's as it should be.  The NR had a much smaller focus on that, but I've never noticed that IR bombers were able to wreck my fleets, it's those freaking ISD-II's w/ VSD's supporting them that usually trash my ships.  In my experiences their bombers are quite decently contained by my fighters.  But that's my experience, and why Corey's going to be having more people testing (not trying to sound cocky, but I'm rather good with the NR in this game, which is why everyone ganged up on me when we recorded the very first multiplayer) to get the balancing right.

Fair enough. Well I'll try using the fighter ratio you talked about. Also how carrier heavy do you go in terms of warships. How many of your capitals do you use as carriers vs the carrier cruiser? If you don't mind me asking is the A-wing always better than the X-wing or does it depend? I assume in Sins the Y-wing is a flat out bomber rather than bomber/fighter. Sorry for the 20 questions. Just keen to get some knowledge from a NR player as NR/EoTH will be the 2 races I probably end up playing the most.

No, I've found if you have decent fighters (not Tie Fighters), they do a fairly decent job.  In a giant battle my Interceptors were definitely keeping the bombing runs to a minimal on my ships (2 fleets of ~50-60 ships each side; fighter:bomber ration on my fleets is close to 1:2), and I experienced only minimal losses due to their heavy frigates and caps combining fire on my poor nearly defenseless Dominator cruisers.

Hmmm. Well I've played Republic in this game more than Imperial and all I can say is that the Republic almost inevitably seem to lose the fighter battle in anything other than a knock out situation. Tie Interceptors coupled with the sheer number of squadrons + so much larger supply mean you really do struggle. This is only exasperated by the fact that Sins doesn't seem to support shields on fighters so republic craft simply cannot be as strong as they should be.
